“Lady Emily, this is Lady Sophia’s room. Please open the door quietly… Also, you’ve been told many times by Lady Sophia to always knock before entering.”

“I know that! Where’s my sister? Is she alright?”

Ignoring the butler’s words, Emily looked around the room and, noticing Alec’s presence, gasped in surprise.

“Ahhh! Alec, what happened to you? Your lip is cut!”

Emily rushed over to Alec’s side, holding his face in her hands, showing concern. Alec blushed and smiled faintly.

“I’m fine, Emily… It’s nothing serious…”

“No, it’s terrible… Your lip is cut! We won’t be able to kiss for a while!”

“What?! E-Emily, not in front of everyone…”

“We don’t need to hide it anymore, do we? You’ve already divorced my sister, so we’re a married couple now!”

“E-Emily!?”

Feeling uncomfortable, Alec was flustered by Emily’s bold statements.

Click-clack… One of the maids approached and stopped in front of Emily and Alec.

“Lady Emily.”

The maid slapped Emily across the cheek.

“Hey! What are you doing? Apologize!”

Alec, enraged, pulled Emily into his arms, and Emily, crying in his embrace, glared at the maid as she shouted.

“To raise a hand against the master’s wife… You’re fired! Get out of this mansion!!”

“You don’t need to tell me; I’ll leave. And Emily, you are not the wife of the master yet.”

“What!?”

“And for the record, that slap was on behalf of Lady Sophia.”

The maid gave a slight bow, wiped her tears, and glanced at Sophia, who lay lifeless on the bed, before leaving the room.

“W-wait!”

The other maids followed her out of the room.

“Alec, that was horrible… That maid hit me, even though I’m pregnant!”

“Yes, I know. I’ll deal with her later… Are you alright?”

“Yes.”

As Alec touched Emily’s cheek, the butler grabbed Alec’s hand tightly.

“What!?”

“My lord… Lady Emily… Both of you, come here.”

“Ouch… i-it hurts! Let go!”

“Alec!?”

The butler dragged Alec and Emily to where Sophia lay and released Alec’s hand.

“By looking at the two of you just now, it’s clear you’ve learned nothing… Lady Sophia is furious.”

“!! …”

“S-sister?”

It was only then that Emily noticed Sophia’s unmoving body. She trembled as she gazed upon her lifeless sister.

“S-sister? Please, stop joking… Sister, wake up!”

Emily touched Sophia’s arm, feeling her still soft skin, and shook her as she cried, calling out to her.

“S-sister… sniff… sniff… wake up… I was wrong… I’m sorry… I’ll apologize over and over again… Sister~~…”

Emily continued to cry, apologizing repeatedly by Sophia’s side. Alec could only place a hand on Emily’s shoulder and wait for her to calm down.

The butler, having brought Alec and Emily to Sophia’s side, quietly walked over to the doctor.

“When you look at her now, she seems like a grieving sister mourning her elder sibling… but she doesn’t look like a sister who laid hands on her sister’s husband.”

The doctor watched Emily, weeping by Sophia’s side, and commented that they seemed like any ordinary sisters.

“When I first met Lady Emily, I also thought she was a sister longing to visit her elder sibling… but I was wrong. Lady Emily had come here to see the master from the very beginning.”

“!”

The doctor looked at the butler in shock.

“That’s…”

“Lady Emily had feelings for the master since their wedding.”

“I’ve heard something similar from Lord Alec… He mentioned that Emily confessed her feelings to him.”

The butler gazed at Alec and Emily, silently wishing they would, from the bottom of their hearts, sincerely apologize to Sophia.

Meanwhile, the maid who slapped Emily stood crying before the other maids who had gathered.

The other maids, curious about what had happened, asked questions.

“It was so frustrating… so painful… sob, sob…”

“What happened?”

“Sarah slapped Lady Emily.”

“What?!”

The maids who had gathered were in shock and started to buzz with questions.

“Why did that happen?”

“I just couldn’t bear it… Seeing Lord Alec and Lady Emily standing so close by Lady Sophia’s side as she slept… It felt so unfair to Lady Sophia… Seeing them together made me so angry, and I hit Lady Emily out of frustration.”

The maids listening were moved, some wiping away their own tears.

The maids were shocked again.

“Why are you quitting? Because you slapped Lady Emily?”
