- Chapter 15 - The Horror of Waking Up to This Scene
“And from now on, Jiang Xu has to take care of it himself, no delegating to others.”
When Si Yuhuai said this, his gaze swept over Zhou Xuning, cutting off the idea of them “co-raising” and “co-parenting” the dog together.
Jiang Xu nodded furiously like a pecking chick:
“Okay, okay! Of course, of course! Hubby, you’re the best!”
Overcome with excitement, Jiang Xu threw his arms around Si Yuhuai’s neck and planted a kiss on his cheek. The move was so fast that even Jiang Xu himself didn’t react until it was done.
The next second, Jiang Xu grabbed the puppy and dashed upstairs to finish its bath.
Zhou Xuning sat slumped in front of Si Yuhuai, his gaze a little resentful.
“Huai-ge, you’re really getting harder to deal with as you get older.”
Si Yuhuai’s eyes darkened.
“What did you say?”
Zhou Xuning zipped his lips with a gesture and shut up.
Si Yuhuai’s brows smoothed.
“It’s late. I won’t keep you for dinner. Go home.”
Zhou Xuning stared in disbelief.
“What? You’re not letting me stay over? It’s already dark, and it’s raining outside!”
Si Yuhuai curved his lips in a faint smile.
“So what?”
Zhou Xuning: “……”
[A cold-hearted old man.]
Hearing this, Si Yuhuai almost wanted to kick him straight out.
At this hour, Zhou Xuning couldn’t go back to his dorm, so he pulled out his phone and called Chu Xingchi.
“Chu-ge! My brother kicked me out—can you come pick me up?”
Si Yuhuai heard the man on the other end agree without hesitation.
Before long, Chu Xingchi appeared at the Si family manor, braving the rain.
“Seriously, Si Yuhuai, is Ning Ning even your brother? Who throws their little brother out into the rain?”
Si Yuhuai always acted according to mood—his closest friends, who had been in sync with him for years, still couldn’t predict when he’d snap.
Zhou Xuning lit up like he’d found family when he saw Chu Xingchi, clutching his wrist, face full of grievance.
“If you like him so much, I’ll give him to you as a younger brother,” Si Yuhuai said with a meaningful look. Chu Xingchi only paused a beat before coughing lightly to cover his awkwardness.
He wrapped an arm around Zhou Xuning’s shoulder.
“Come on, Ning Ning. Don’t waste words with him.”
As he left with Chu Xingchi, Zhou Xuning sighed foolishly, “Chu-ge, you really are the best!”
Si Yuhuai almost laughed.
When he went upstairs, Jiang Xu had already washed and dried the puppy, but his own clothes were soaked through.
The wet white fabric clung to his body, revealing pale skin and faint muscles underneath—youthful, vibrant, brimming with life, like tender green branches swaying in the wind.
Si Yuhuai stood at the doorway, arms crossed, staring at the boy in the maid outfit finally bouncing around happily again.
The favorability meter ticked back up to 95.
Relaxing his brows, Si Yuhuai watched Jiang Xu’s silly grin as he started spouting rainbow farts.
“Hubby, you’re way too kind! A man like you is sure to live a long, long life!”
The system: “……”
(Host’s heart isn’t just black, he’s also destined to die young. Who would believe this nonsense?)
Si Yuhuai raised an eyebrow.
“You look really happy. Not like me—I’ve got a bad headache tonight.”
Jiang Xu: “……”
Then Si Yuhuai crouched down in front of him, taking Jiang Xu’s slim, white wrist and placing it on his head, hinting hard.
“So, you said earlier drinking doesn’t help with sleep, right?”
Jiang Xu: “……”
[Translation note: The patron never says anything for nothing. What he means is—‘You’re happy because I, in my infinite benevolence, allowed you to raise the puppy. Now it’s your turn to show gratitude. I just happen to have a headache—perfect chance for you to prove yourself. I’ve given you the opportunity, don’t waste it!’]
Jiang Xu leaned forward, wrapping his arms around Si Yuhuai’s neck, ruffling his hair.
“Hubby, I’m going to take a shower now. Don’t you dare fall asleep—you wait for me, okay?”
Si Yuhuai: “……”
After settling the puppy in a temporary bed, Jiang Xu washed up and slipped into Si Yuhuai’s room.
Si Yuhuai sat pale against the headboard, absently twisting his ring between his fingers.
The rain outside pounded on, his gaze darkening as he tried to suppress the irritability inside.
Jiang Xu sneaked a small pouch under the covers, then climbed onto the bed and guided Si Yuhuai’s head onto his lap.
“Close your eyes. Oh—and besides a massage, do you need any other services?”
Si Yuhuai: “……”
“Can you be serious for once?”
Jiang Xu shut his mouth, but thought to himself: [Is telling bedtime stories not serious?]
Si Yuhuai: “……” He wasn’t really tired tonight, just irritable.
At noon he’d dozed a little, which meant—by habit—he’d probably be sleepless tonight.
Even though he often had headaches and terrible sleep patterns, he still longed for orderly, restful nights.
Jiang Xu really had some skill—his massage actually lulled Si Yuhuai to sleep.
But after he was asleep…
Jiang Xu gazed at him, whispering softly in his ear.
“Si Yuhuai?”
“Hubby…”
When there was no response, Jiang Xu finally relaxed. He pulled out his secret weapon from under the blanket—a red string.
He wound one end around his own wrist and tied the other around Si Yuhuai’s.
Jiang Xu thought his habit of sleepwalking out of the house was too dangerous. Better to keep watch like this.
That way, if he moved, Jiang Xu would wake up.
Even if it was for that five million, Jiang Xu had to guarantee the patron’s safety!
It was late, and his stomach growled with hunger. Having skipped dinner, he just endured it.
Yawning, he burrowed into the blanket and drifted off.
The next morning, when Si Yuhuai opened his eyes and saw the red string on his wrist, his face turned ashen—like soot.
He thought Jiang Xu had gotten over his weird quirks!
How many strange fetishes did this kid still have that he didn’t know about?!
The horror of waking up to a red string tied to his wrist!
Afraid it might be a misunderstanding, he checked the surveillance from the night before.
Sure enough, once Jiang Xu confirmed he was asleep, the boy sneakily pulled out the rope, and after tying his wrist, that delicate, innocent face lit up with a devilish little grin of satisfaction.
The sight gave Si Yuhuai goosebumps all over.
“Jiang Xu!” he snapped furiously.
And somehow, Jiang Xu had tied the knot so tight it was nearly impossible to undo.
Jiang Xu mumbled a drowsy “mm,” eyes still shut, but his hand instinctively reached out to make sure the string was still secure. His slow, lazy movements brushed his soft palm through Si Yuhuai’s fingers, giving a gentle squeeze.
“Don’t run. Sleep obediently.”
Si Yuhuai: “……”
Jiang Xu finally opened his eyes, curving his lips into a smile.
“Good morning, hubby!”
