- Too Much To Handle! The Canary Forced Love on The Grim/Vicious Villain
- Chapter 19 - Spoiling the Kid
It had taken so much effort to finally put a little weight back on him—better not cry it all away.
Jiang Xu shook his head. After sobbing for so long, not only did he not feel hungry, he even hiccupped.
Si Yuhuai thought he ought to mock him with some cutting remark, because his tear-stained face really did look ridiculous.
But the harsh words suddenly got stuck in his throat.
He set a small cake on the bedside table. “Come eat.”
Jiang Xu still had no appetite and shook his head again.
Si Yuhuai couldn’t help but sigh inwardly, a wave of helpless frustration rising in him.
“Stop crying. If you don’t want to go to school, then don’t. This isn’t me restricting your freedom—it’s your own choice.”
The moment those words left his mouth, not only Jiang Xu but even the system was stunned.
The system was speechless: Host, you’re spoiling him way too much! Don’t you know someone his age is supposed to be in school learning?
Si Yuhuai frowned. “Didn’t you see him crying?”
The system sneered: You don’t care whether other people live or die, yet now you care that he’s crying? What are you even doing?
Si Yuhuai refused to argue, just lifted Jiang Xu’s chin and gently brushed his fingers over the boy’s reddened eyes.
“To cry this much just because you don’t want to go to school—so pathetic, Jiang Xu.”
The words sounded mocking, but his tone was soft.
Jiang Xu didn’t care at all. He wrapped his arms around Si Yuhuai’s waist, resting his chin against those firm, solid abs.
“You really won’t force me anymore?”
Si Yuhuai was speechless. Making him go to school counted as “forcing”? Then what did that make his own job?
“Do whatever you want.” He truly had no other options.
The system protested: Host, this is indulgence! You’re going to ruin him!
“Shut up,” Si Yuhuai snapped. “None of your business.”
The system: “……” Ugh, that shameless flip-flopping attitude—so annoying.
Finally, Jiang Xu awkwardly managed a smile, and the little weeping butler above his head brightened as well.
At that moment, his favorability meter went up, up, up—already at 98%!
With starry eyes, Jiang Xu gazed at Si Yuhuai. “Si Yuhuai, you’re the best husband ever!”
Si Yuhuai didn’t like the sound of that. He pinched Jiang Xu’s cheeks. “Do you have other husbands?”
“No, no! Only you! So if I don’t go to school anymore, can you support me? Even though I eat… a little too much.”
Jiang Xu even began to wonder if he should start eating less.
Si Yuhuai sighed and rubbed his hair. “Go eat. Plug that mouth of yours.”
Jiang Xu nodded heavily, then ran to the table to dig into the dessert.
But after two spoonfuls, he remembered Si Yuhuai and offered the cake to him.
“Boss first?”
Si Yuhuai looked at the ruined cake—already mangled by Jiang Xu’s two bites—and declined.
Jiang Xu was really exhausted from crying. After washing up, he burrowed into bed.
Afraid that when he opened his eyes Si Yuhuai might disappear, he even climbed into Si Yuhuai’s bed.
When Si Yuhuai returned, he saw the lump under the covers. In the middle of summer, he wasn’t even bothered by the heat.
Pretending not to notice, Si Yuhuai turned off the lights and went to sleep.
Moments later, Jiang Xu crawled over him to turn on the lamp again.
“If you’re scared of the dark, then don’t turn the light off.”
Si Yuhuai opened his eyes and glanced at him.
Jiang Xu shut his mouth, then slid back beside him. “If I stay with you, then you won’t be afraid of the dark.”
Si Yuhuai didn’t reply. He closed his eyes.
Jiang Xu seemed even more dependent now—snuggling close, even needing to hold Si Yuhuai’s hand to fall asleep.
Maybe it was just exhaustion from crying, but soon soft, steady breaths rose beside him.
Si Yuhuai turned his head, watching him under the dim light.
Who exactly is he? Where did he come from?
But in truth, Si Yuhuai didn’t really care about those questions.
He only knew this: here was a little thing that made your heart ache a bit.
“You’re not going? Jiang Xu, what are you thinking?!” Zhou Xuning was devastated.
He had worked so hard, all for nothing.
“I’m so much more comfortable staying home with air conditioning. Why would I go out? And Si Yuhuai never bullied me—those were all misunderstandings.” Jiang Xu’s head still hurt from crying last night.
But with the housekeeper preparing him a spread of good food in the morning, his mood lifted instantly.
As long as he could keep lying flat, everything was fine.
Zhou Xuning: “……”
“I thought you were a resilient little white flower, but turns out you’re a downright shameless freeloader.”
Jiang Xu smiled. “I lie flat, I’m happy.”
After that, he called Si Yuhuai.
“Honey?”
Si Yuhuai sounded busy. “Spit it out.”
“Could you bring me some barbecue tonight?”
After so much of the butler’s healthy cooking, Jiang Xu was craving something full of additives and grease.
Zhou Xuning gawked. Has Jiang Xu lost his mind? How dare he make requests like that?!
But when he expected Si Yuhuai to scold him, the man just said “Got it” before hanging up.
Zhou Xuning was floored.
“How do you do it?”
Jiang Xu sighed helplessly. “Don’t look at me like that. I really think Si Yuhuai’s a good person. You could totally talk to him properly.”
That night, Si Yuhuai returned with barbecue.
Encouraged by Jiang Xu’s look, Zhou Xuning shuffled over.
“Brother Huai, that cake you brought last time was really good. Could you bring more tomorrow after work?”
Si Yuhuai thought he’d lost his mind. Did he really just dare to ask me for something?
One eyebrow lifted. “Get lost.”
Zhou Xuning: “!!!”
He swore he’d copied Jiang Xu’s words verbatim, down to the punctuation!
Jiang Xu stared blankly, bean eyes wide, watching Zhou Xuning’s wounded expression.
He truly had no idea what went wrong…
Zhou Xuning decided Jiang Xu had misunderstood Si Yuhuai completely.
There was no way anyone could call Si Yuhuai “easy to get along with.”
Yet Si Yuhuai didn’t pressure Jiang Xu about school again. Still, every night before bed, he would routinely ask: “Still don’t want to go tomorrow?”
Jiang Xu stared at him in terror, shaking his head like a rattle.
As expected, Si Yuhuai didn’t push him, just told him to go to sleep.
Even so, Jiang Xu thought he saw in those eyes the same helpless worry of a parent with a truant child.
Can’t force him, can’t hit him—he’d already used up every method.
Jiang Xu knew, deep down, what he was resisting.
Like a little creature that kept hitting walls with its feelers, he no longer dared explore the outside world.
With Si Yuhuai giving him safety, Jiang Xu felt he didn’t need anything more.
