- Chapter 22 - Big Trouble
The butler placed breakfast in front of Si Yuhuai.
“I’m not eating. No appetite,” Si Yuhuai said.
His face was dark and stormy, his gaze fixed on Jiang Xu.
“I’ll take you to school later.”
The weight of that look was almost suffocating, and Jiang Xu unconsciously slowed his chewing, his pure, dark eyes filled with a little confusion.
【Is Si Yuhuai… angry? In a bad mood?】
Si Yuhuai’s mood eased slightly—at least Jiang Xu wasn’t completely clueless. He could tell when he was upset.
He expected Jiang Xu to say some of his usual, empty flattery. Yet the very next second—
【Garlic bird, garlic bird, out of 365 days a year, Si Yuhuai spends 360 days looking like thunder. If he’s smiling, now that’s when something big must be wrong!】
Si Yuhuai: ???
The butler’s gaze shifted between the two of them, and he became certain: tonight, Jiang Xu must absolutely be brought back home again!
Truthfully, Jiang Xu felt a bit heavy-hearted about returning to school after two months.
On one hand, he had to readjust to the campus environment. On the other, exams were coming up—he needed good results to graduate safely.
As he scrolled through his phone, checking the class group chat, he found that plenty of gossip about him had been circulating.
Someone posted review notes for finals. Another student asked:
【Exams are near—Jiang Xu’s still not back? Did he take a leave of absence?】
Immediately, someone replied:
【Why are you wasting brain cells worrying? He’s probably still warming the bed of some sugar daddy. You and I should just focus on dragging ourselves to 8 a.m. lectures.】
Jiang Xu: “!!!”
【Oh crap! How does he know I’m with a sugar daddy?! Wait—he’s not trying to steal my sugar daddy, is he?!】
Si Yuhuai, glancing at Jiang Xu’s phone: “…”
With a brain like that, the only way he ever got into university was probably thanks to his ancestors smashing their heads against the underworld gates in prayer.
Being slandered—and this fool’s only worry is that someone might steal his patron?
Before they even reached campus, Jiang Xu was already under attack. How was he supposed to endure the rest of the day?
Si Yuhuai’s face remained grim the entire ride. He didn’t utter a single word, and the air inside the car grew heavy with tension.
When they finally pulled up near the school, Si Yuhuai didn’t immediately open the car door.
What a joke!
In this atmosphere, Jiang Xu didn’t even dare twitch.
“Si Yuhuai…” he whispered nervously.
Those deep eyes stayed fixed on him. Then Jiang Xu sighed and said, “You skipped breakfast this morning. Remember to eat lunch on time, okay?”
Si Yuhuai raised a brow. “You actually know how to worry about me?”
System: 【…Deadpan king, would it kill you not to be sarcastic for once?】
“Well, duh,” Jiang Xu thought. 【You’re my sugar daddy. As a proper little canary, I do have professional standards!】
Yuhuai smirked faintly. The boy seemed unusually attached to this “pet canary” act. He leaned in, fingers brushing Jiang Xu’s soft cheek.
“Jiang Xu, isn’t it better to just stay home, eat and relax? There are plenty of bad people outside.”
Thinking of the student who had just insulted Jiang Xu in the group chat, his expression chilled like a gust of damp wind from a dark forest.
Jiang Xu’s neck shrank a little. He thought Yuhuai was afraid he’d run away, so he pouted and muttered, “Didn’t you say you’d give me freedom? Besides, could I ever really escape the palm of your hand?”
【Please. Random bad guys are nothing compared to how scary you are.】
Si Yuhuai let out a low laugh.
This little thing really had no sense of what was good for him.
When Jiang Xu finally left, swallowed by the stream of students, Yuhuai’s chest tightened with a strange, empty ache.
The system snorted. “What’s wrong, host? Feeling insecure because he went off to school? I told you ages ago—you and Jiang Xu have too big of a generational gap. You’d be better off focusing on your business empire.”
The system had clearly picked up Yuhuai’s habit of spitting poison.
Yuhuai didn’t answer. He just kept staring at Jiang Xu’s back.
It was like sending a little cub into a wild forest. There was no way to feel at ease.
Following memory, Jiang Xu returned to the dorm to pick up some things.
Two months ago, he’d left on a “sick leave.” Most of his belongings should’ve still been there.
But when he stepped inside, he froze.
His bed was piled high with other people’s stuff, and his desk had been completely cleared.
Had he gone to the wrong dorm?
Just then, a roommate came out of the bathroom and looked surprised.
“Jiang Xu? You’re back? Recovered from your illness?”
The original Jiang Xu had always been overly sensitive, and he didn’t get along well with his roommates. Especially not with this one.
The guy sneered, his gaze sweeping Jiang Xu up and down—mocking, yet faintly suggestive.
“Funny. Most people waste away after a major illness. But you—looking like some spirit that’s sucked up essence—still so radiant.
By the way… I heard your whole family went abroad. So why are you still here? You’re not really their biological son, are you? No dad, no mom, no nothing… Don’t tell me you’re planning to cling to some rich folks, claim you’re their son?”
Watching this unfold, Si Yuhuai slammed the table beside him.
“I told him—he should’ve just stayed obediently at home! Are college students’ morals this rotten nowadays?! System, can you dig up his advisor’s number for me? I want to make him pay!”
Yuhuai tugged his tie loose, his temper fully unmasked.
Jiang Xu’s brain was already slow and his personality too soft—he was basically begging to be bullied.
System: 【…Host, you spy on him 24/7 and you’re the one righteously indignant now? Boundaries, please. I have many functions, but do I really need to provide you with live-stream surveillance every day?】
Yuhuai’s eyes glinted darkly. “So you can’t find the advisor’s number?”
The system was speechless.
Before it could reply, Yuhuai was already barking orders at Li Xiu-jie.
“Li Xiujie, help me—”
But his words were cut short when he suddenly heard Jiang Xu laugh.
“Whether I’m the Jiang family’s son or not doesn’t matter. What matters is—your father’s never going to acknowledge you as his son again.”
Jiang Xu plucked a tissue from the nearby desk and held it out.
“Lin Zixin, wipe your mouth. The stink is unbearable.”
Lin Zixin’s eyes widened. He hadn’t expected Jiang Xu to be this bold.
From the moment they’d enrolled, Lin Zixin had disliked him.
He was just a boy, yet with a face so striking it always drew attention. Walking outside, heads always turned toward him.
Then, as if that weren’t enough, this “orphan without parents” had suddenly been revealed as a rich heir—his charm stacking like buffs upon buffs, making him even more popular with girls.
Lin Zixin had confessed to someone once, only to have the girl ask for Jiang Xu’s contact info instead.
The memory made his teeth itch with fury.
