Transmigrated as a Cannon Fodder Alpha in a Scum Alpha Novel (GL) - Chapter 10
Peach blossom eyes are traditionally a symbol of “charm and passion,” but Song Shixue’s inherently aloof appearance diluted that natural allure. Now, separated by just a table, with warm light bathing them, the tenderness and affection in Song Shixue’s eyes became strikingly clear.
It was as if Fu Suihan was truly the one being confessed to.
But Fu Suihan knew she wasn’t. So, after a brief moment of stunned silence, she quickly detached herself from the emotion and genuinely praised, “That was amazing.”
Fu Suihan rarely watched films or TV, so she had no real insight into “acting.” But Song Shixue’s ability to evoke emotion in the viewer within seconds was enough to prove her deep skill.
Song Shixue quickly immersed herself in a role but was slow to exit it. After a moment of quiet, she finally replied, “You’ll get it after you’ve filmed a lot. The audition will probably be in about a week. You don’t need to prepare too much, just remember your lines.”
Fu Suihan was momentarily unsure if Song Shixue was setting her standards too high or too low.
Song Shixue, however, didn’t seem to mind: “You’re my artist.”
The implication was that even if someone objected, Song Shixue would handle it for her.
Fu Suihan had only heard of female leads bringing their own capital to a production, not female leads bringing their own supporting cast and “controlling everything.” But as the one being brought along, she had little power to voice her opinion. Outwardly, she agreed, but inwardly, she thought that if she was going to do it, she might as well do it her best.
At dinner time, the living room lights were bright, and the long table was laden with exquisite and abundant dishes. Song Shixue said, “Tell Shang Ming what you like, and she’ll prepare it for you.”
The Beta who had knocked on the door earlier consciously stepped back a few paces, and Fu Suihan reluctantly nodded.
For nearly a week after that, the two maintained a respectful distance, like unfamiliar tenants sharing a roof, with no intimate gestures like their first meeting, and not much communication.
Song Shixue would occasionally go out for filming or read by the window. Fu Suihan was the same—resting when tired, reading in her free time. Only at night would the two appear together in the living room, tacitly doing their own things, not disturbing each other, yet able to see each other at close proximity just by looking up.
Until this night, when Fu Suihan was, as usual, reading the script in the living room, and Song Shixue unusually started discussing business. From her tone, Fu Suihan gathered she was negotiating the filming schedule with the director.
She thought it had nothing to do with her and kept her eyes down, but then she heard the woman’s voice, like she was coaxing a cat.
“Suihan,” Song Shixue said, “Come here.”
Fu Suihan thought, You say come here, and I just come here? Yet her legs moved towards Song Shixue, uncontrollable by her brain. To make sure Song Shixue could see her, Fu Suihan even deliberately half-crouched, so she could see Song Shixue’s face as soon as she looked up.
“Say hello to her.”
With that, Song Shixue turned on the speakerphone. A high-pitched female voice immediately resonated through the living room: “Do you think the set is your home? You can just bring anyone you want in…”
Fu Suihan was close to the phone, and her eardrums were inevitably hurt by the vibration. Song Shixue’s voice chilled: “If you can’t learn to speak normally, go back to President Li and have her teach you. Don’t act crazy in front of me.”
At the mention of “President Li,” the female voice immediately became obedient: “I’m used to making a scene on set, I apologize. Is this Fu Suihan? Hello, my name is Qi Yuan, and I’m the director of ‘For the Emperor’.”
Qi Yuan, the only female Omega director in the entertainment industry, debuted with suspense films and collaborated with Song Shixue three times, each time a hit, making her one of the hottest rising directors. She was noticed by capital and handpicked to direct “For the Emperor,” achieving a “fourth collaboration.”
Not to mention the vast difference between movies and TV dramas, Qi Yuan had never filmed a costume drama and had been very depressed since taking on the responsibility. Furthermore, because the drama’s paper lineup was eye-catching enough, she had been approached by hundreds of investor relatives for months, all wanting a role and instant fame.
Annoyed by so many, she naturally detested “people with connections.”
“Person with connections” Fu Suihan: “…”
But greetings still had to be made, Fu Suihan thought, when she saw the phone call disconnected.
Looking up again, she met Song Shixue’s eyes.
“Does your ear hurt?” The Omega’s head was slightly bowed, and light slid across her profile, emphasizing her superior jawline. “Do you want to go to the hospital?”
Fu Suihan was stared at for two seconds, dazed. She shook her head: “It’s nothing. Director Qi…”
“Don’t mind her,” Song Shixue said. “She knows her limits.”
Fu Suihan couldn’t participate in the world of movie queens and powerful directors yet. She was more curious about another matter—
“Who is President Li?” Fu Suihan’s expression was serious. Because, in the story content she had read so far, no character named Li had appeared, and this might be related to a hidden quest.
Seeing her suddenly turn serious, Song Shixue paused, then her lips curved: “You want to know?”
Fu Suihan: “…”
Suddenly, she didn’t want to know that much anymore.
“Then come a little closer.”
Just then, Song Shixue spoke again. Her voice lowered, as if she were coaxing. Her eyes were warm, and Fu Suihan unconsciously moved a little closer.
Song Shixue seemed to possess this innate ability to draw her in, to make her approach involuntarily.
Thinking this, she inwardly speculated about Song Shixue’s intention for calling her over. Suddenly, her back tingled, and all her senses focused on the delicate, soft fingertips on her earlobe.
From… Song Shixue’s fingertips.
She looked up, her gaze bewildered and sincere. Because of her half-crouched posture, she was holding her arms obediently, like a loyal Old English Sheepdog.
Watching Fu Suihan, Song Shixue felt her heart soften. She chuckled softly: “President Li is the CEO of Universal.”
All of Fu Suihan’s tender feelings shattered into pieces.
She thought expressionlessly, I fell for it again.
Once she started, the rest of the conversation flowed much easier.
It was simply that Qi Yuan was an idealist, focused on niche subjects that couldn’t find investment in the market. Just when her production team lacked funds, Universal, the investor of “For the Emperor,” noticed her. At the cost of filming a bad drama, she was offered the chance to revive her current project.
“Bad film.”
Fu Suihan noticed this term, but Song Shixue asked, “Does your ear still hurt now?”
Fu Suihan still wanted to answer “no.”
But instinctively, if she said “no,” Song Shixue also wouldn’t answer her curiosity.
Hesitating for a moment, Fu Suihan said against her will, “A little.”
It was Fu Suihan’s first time having such a sensitive area like her earlobe pinched. Song Shixue’s cool fingers quickly warmed from the burning temperature. After a few seconds of quiet, she said, “My contract with Universal is about to expire.”
Fu Suihan struggled to extract herself from the tingling sensation, painstakingly trying to think.
The contract was expiring, and Song Shixue wasn’t planning to renew. Universal had no reason to continue coddling Song Shixue, so they naturally and mercilessly made her accept a reputation-damaging but profitable fantasy “bad film.”
Fu Suihan hadn’t considered this reason. After a long pause, she said, “Actually, it wouldn’t matter if you didn’t take it, right?”
Song Shixue stopped her movements, looked at her, and then smiled abruptly: “Yes.”
“But we’ve worked together for many years, after all,” Song Shixue said. “It’s not impossible to part on good terms.”
“Moreover…”
A phone rang suddenly, interrupting Song Shixue’s words.
Both were startled. Fu Suihan looked at the screen; the caller was Lin Jiyue, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time.
