Transmigrated as a Scum Alpha Cannon Fodder, Sweetly Pampering the Heroine - Chapter 8
“Xu Jinman, it’s only been a few days, and you’ve already adapted to your new status so quickly.”
Yin Xue moved closer, looping her arm through the Alpha’s again.
Xu Jinman didn’t even glance at her. She reached out and took the paper bag from Shen Shu’s hand, murmuring softly, “Didn’t I tell you to wait for me? Don’t tire yourself out.”
Shen Shu hadn’t been gripping the bag tightly, and Xu Jinman easily took the handles. Their hands brushed, and Shen Shu instinctively recoiled slightly from the cool touch.
Simultaneously, she inwardly questioned Xu Jinman’s motives.
Why would she do this in front of Yin Xue? What’s her game?
Yin Xue’s expression darkened. “Xu Jinman, what do you mean by this?!”
Shen Shu also looked up at Xu Jinman, eager to hear her answer.
Xu Jinman’s gaze remained fixed on Shen Shu. When Shen Shu looked up, her eyes were drawn into Xu Jinman’s relaxed, phoenix-shaped eyes. Their gazes locked for two seconds.
Xu Jinman smiled at Shen Shu, then stepped back, positioning herself slightly behind and to the side of Shen Shu, creating the visual impression that Shen Shu was leaning against her.
Only then did Xu Jinman raise her head to look at Yin Xue and her companion, the smile lingering at the corners of her lips. “I was about to ask you the same question. What’s this? Do you think you can just bully anyone who’s associated with me now?”
She used “you” in the plural, not the singular.
The Alpha beside Yin Xue, sensing her signal, politely replied, “Miss Xu, you’ve misunderstood. You and Yin Xue are old friends. She heard you and your wife were hospitalized and insisted on visiting you. There’s no ulterior motive, let alone any intention to bully anyone.”
This was Han Wenfang, the Second Miss of the HP Group and the most likely heir to the Han family’s vast empire.
For Han Wenfang, agreeing to accompany Yin Xue to the hospital had been an impulsive decision.
Well, I’ve already agreed, she thought.
Xu Jinman might be difficult to deal with, but she was married now. Han Wenfang wasn’t trying to steal someone else’s wife. If Xu Jinman wanted to play hardball, the Han family wouldn’t back down.
But she wouldn’t let things escalate that far.
While she did have feelings for Yin Xue, they weren’t strong enough to risk a confrontation with Xu Jinman.
Xu Jinman’s gaze swept across Han Wenfang’s face, noting her ruthless decisiveness.
With just a few carefully chosen words, Han Wenfang had seemingly diffused the awkward tension. Yet the true message was clear: even if Shen Shu had been bullied, it was Yin Xue’s doing alone.
“Wife, is that what happened?” Xu Jinman asked, lowering her lashes to gauge Shen Shu’s reaction.
It was as if Shen Shu’s denial would shatter any chance of resolving the situation peacefully.
Shen Shu felt uneasy at those two words, as if a hissing snake were standing beside her ear. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Xu Jinman was hiding some sinister calculation behind her.
Xu Jinman’s gaze was too direct. Shen Shu subtly shifted a few centimeters to the side, maintaining her composure. “Cai Ying is still waiting for me.”
Xu Jinman didn’t seem to mind her lack of response. “Alright, I’ll see you to your car.”
Shen Shu remained silent, unwilling to get entangled with them here, regardless of whether Xu Jinman was putting on a show for Yin Xue or genuinely had ulterior motives.
Xu Jinman followed her at a leisurely pace.
“Xu Jinman! Enough already!” Yin Xue called out from behind, her voice choked with sobs.
Xu Jinman suddenly grabbed Shen Shu’s wrist, releasing it as soon as she stopped. She tilted her head slightly. “Wait a moment.”
Shen Shu’s expression remained unchanged, but inwardly she sneered.
Everyone said Xu Jinman had a perverse temperament and cruel methods, and that only this Omega named Yin Xue could soften her heart. After staging this whole scene, Yin Xue merely had to show a hint of weakness, and Xu Jinman couldn’t resist.
Shen Shu desperately wanted to tell them she had no interest in joining their drama.
But Xu Jinman didn’t even glance back. Instead, she pulled out her phone from her waist pocket, tapped a few times in front of Shen Shu, and said in her clear, cold voice, “Almost forgot. All done. Let’s go now.”
A flicker of surprise crossed Shen Shu’s eyes, but she said nothing and continued walking out.
Xu Jinman, dressed in a loose hospital gown, stood shoulder to shoulder with Shen Shu. As they passed through the main entrance, a warm breeze billowed Shen Shu’s dress outward.
The two figures, seen from behind, resembled a meticulously crafted mural.
Even after the pair had left the hospital, Yin Xue remained in disbelief. Could that person really have been Xu Jinman?
“It looks like she deleted you,” Han Wenfang said.
“……?”
Yin Xue immediately pulled out her phone to call Xu Jinman. Sure enough…
This was completely beyond her expectations. Was Xu Jinman serious? Was she really going to cut ties completely?
“This can’t be happening.”
“You seem to have underestimated Xu Jinman’s feelings for her wife.”
Perhaps not just Yin Xue, but everyone else had underestimated this.
Cai Ying’s expression turned complex the moment she saw Xu Jinman appear outside the car with Shen Shu. If Shen Shu hadn’t warned her against confronting Xu Jinman again, she would have already started cursing.
Ignoring Cai Ying’s hostility, Xu Jinman asked, “Where are you planning to go?”
She was asking about where they would live afterward.
After a brief pause, Shen Shu replied, “Back to the company.”
Xu Jinman didn’t press the matter. She handed over the items. “I’ll be staying here for a few more days. Get some rest. We can talk properly after you’re discharged?”
Shen Shu looked up at her, paused for a moment, then nodded slightly.
A minute later, Xu Jinman watched the Porsche speed out of sight and let out a helpless chuckle.
Suddenly, Zhou Pei said nervously, “Miss… your…”
Before she could finish, Xu Jinman glanced back at her. Zhou Pei’s eyelids fluttered, and she immediately averted her gaze.
She couldn’t stare directly at Xu Jinman’s glands like that.
Glands were located below the ears of Alphas and Omegas. Normally smooth and flush with the skin, they only opened like blooming buds when someone got too close or when the person was aroused.
These were the most sensitive areas for Alphas and Omegas.
Xu Jinman wasn’t bothered by Zhou Pei’s gaze; she simply understood what she was trying to say.
“I know. Let’s go back.”
The moment Xu Jinman stood beside Shen Shu in the lobby, she had noticed the change in her glands—the same reaction as before.
Could Professor Qin’s suspicions be true? Did her mere proximity to Shen Shu trigger these adverse reactions?
This matter required further investigation with Professor Qin and his team of experts.
Meanwhile, Shen Shu leaned against the car window, her doubts about Xu Jinman growing. If Xu Jinman truly had dissociative identity disorder, it might explain her erratic behavior.
But these were all just guesses. For now, she could only take things one step at a time.
“What are you going to the company for?” Cai Ying interrupted her thoughts.
“There were some issues with the bidding documents Assistant Liu sent over last time. I’m afraid the senior executives won’t listen to him, so I need to go in person.”
“It’s a shame that no matter how well you do, your parents will never think you’re good enough.” They only see Shen Shu as a tool.
“I know,” Shen Shu replied softly, her voice tinged with bitterness.
Cai Ying knew she shouldn’t have brought this up. She pressed her lips together and changed the subject. “After you’re done at the company, if you’re free, why don’t you come stay at my family’s resort for a few days?”
The Cai family made their fortune in the hotel industry. With the hotel market declining in recent years, they’ve shifted their focus to vacation tourism. Most of Beicheng’s resort villas belong to the Cai family.
“My dad built a new one in my favorite style, and it hasn’t fully opened yet,” Cai Ying said, shaking Shen Shu’s arm as they waited at a red light. “Come on, Shen Shu-jie~ Before my dad finds me a tutor, come play with me!”
Hearing Cai Ying’s exaggerated attempts to act cute, Shen Shu playfully pushed her hand away and said, “Alright, if there aren’t any major issues with the project, I’ll let you plan it.”
“Yay!”
Xu Jinman remained in the hospital for a week without any further complications. After consulting with several specialists, the consensus was to continue observation.
Her patience exhausted, Xu Jinman reasoned that if observation was necessary, what difference did it make where she was observed?
No matter how good the hospital was, it still reeked of disinfectant every day.
Professor Qin, sensing her restlessness and fearing a relapse into her old ways, didn’t forcibly stop her. He merely advised her to avoid excessive contact with Shen Shu for the time being and to call him immediately if anything happened.
Xu Jinman understood the situation. Zhou Pei had mentioned that Shen Shu had been busy at the company recently, staying at her rented apartment, and had been spending the past few days with Cai Ying.
She didn’t pry further.
That night had been a nightmare for Shen Shu. Giving her more time to recover wouldn’t hurt.
Xu Jinman discharged herself without telling anyone.
As she got into the car, Zhou Pei asked where she wanted to go, but received no response for a long moment.
After a while, Xu Jinman opened her eyes, squinting against the harsh sunlight.
“Are there any quiet vacation spots nearby? Somewhere secluded with few people, preferably with a large outdoor pool.”
“Yes, there are,” Zhou Pei replied. “Should I arrange it now?”
“Yes, now.”
