Transmigrated as an Alpha, the Fox Spirit Lives on Pheromone - Chapter 13
By the time Bai Muqin finished getting ready and came downstairs, she could still hear Zhao Ma whispering to Sister Zhang, who was cleaning, “I told you she was just putting on a show for Miss Bai by eating so little at dinner. Hungry at night, and now she’s exposed. If she wanted to sneak a bite, fine, but leaving bones all over the place—as if she’s not the one who has to clean it up!” As she spoke, she kept shooting glances at Jiang Li, her unfriendly gaze clearly suspecting Jiang Li of stealing the half-chicken from the kitchen.
Jiang Li noticed Zhao Ma’s hostile looks but hadn’t paid close attention to the conversation, so she didn’t connect the “she” Zhao Ma was talking about to herself. Curious about the frequent glances, she asked, “Who is she?”
Zhao Ma thought to herself, What a shameless one, pretending she doesn’t know anything. But she still answered Jiang Li with a forced smile, “There’s a thief in the house. I’m talking about the thief!”
She then turned to Bai Muqin and asked, “Miss Bai, should we call the police?”
Bai Muqin replied, “Apart from the half-chicken that was eaten, is anything else missing?”
“Sister Zhang and I just checked. We haven’t found anything else gone yet. The kitchen hasn’t been cleaned up—would you like to take a look, Miss Bai?” Zhao Ma probed.
“Mm,” Bai Muqin responded and headed to the kitchen. Normally, she wouldn’t bother with such trivial matters, but Zhao Ma’s insinuations that Ah Li was the thief made her uncomfortable. Still, Bai Muqin was sentimental and didn’t want to lash out at Zhao Ma over something minor. She understood Zhao Ma’s wariness toward Ah Li was natural, so she wanted to handle this properly to avoid future conflicts.
The usually tidy kitchen was now in disarray. Vegetables were scattered everywhere, and chicken bones littered the counter and floor.
Bai Muqin walked around the kitchen and picked up a small tuft of brownish-yellow fur from a corner. It wasn’t particularly rough or smooth. Suddenly, she recalled Jiang Li’s words and wondered if this fur could belong to her—had Ah Li transformed in the middle of the night and sneaked into the kitchen to eat?
The villa had never had so much as a mouse in all these years, and this fur definitely didn’t belong to one.
Quickly, Bai Muqin dismissed the absurd thought. Holding the tuft of fur, she asked, “What kind of animal does this fur belong to?”
Jiang Li had followed Bai Muqin into the kitchen, sensing a familiar scent—something she’d smelled in Qin Nian’s car the day before.
When Bai Muqin asked, she leaned in for a closer sniff, wrinkling her nose slightly as if disliking the smell. With a hint of distaste, she answered, “Looks like a weasel.”
The next moment, Qin Nian’s scream pierced the air. “Ahhh! What was that thing that just darted past?”
“Where did it go?” Zhao Ma asked nervously. Clearly, some living creature had gotten into the house. She had always held a superstitious reverence for weasels—if this really was one of those “immortal” creatures, she didn’t dare offend it!
Qin Nian pointed shakily toward the bathroom. “Over there—yellowish. Maybe a stray cat?”
Zhao Ma and Sister Zhang hesitated, neither willing to go check.
Then Jiang Li spoke up. “I’ll take a look.” She volunteered and walked over, feeling as though she’d seen it somewhere before.
Entering the bathroom, Jiang Li closed the door behind her to prevent it from running out and scaring people. She looked around but couldn’t spot the yellow figure.
“Dummy, I’m up here.”
Jiang Li looked up at the sound and saw a weasel about the size of a cat, its beady eyes glaring from its tiny head, oddly adorable. Its back was a tawny brown while its belly was snow-white, slightly more attractive than the weasels she’d seen before.
Before Jiang Li could examine it further, she suddenly realized—this weasel had just spoken.
“Y-you… you’re a weasel spirit!” Jiang Li was stunned, her jaw dropping.
The weasel rolled its eyes. “What weasel spirit? I’m the Great Immortal Huang! Besides, you’re allowed to be a fox spirit, but I can’t attain enlightenment?”
Jiang Li had no patience for its banter. “I don’t care what you are. Stealing and sneaking around is wrong.”
Seeing Jiang Li wasn’t swayed by force, the weasel softened its tone. “Fox, don’t let the people outside beat me to death. Save me! If you hadn’t suddenly yelled ‘weasel,’ I wouldn’t have been scared and exposed so quickly! And last night, you promised you’d help me.”
“Last night? I don’t remember that.”
The weasel looked pained. “If I hadn’t opened the door for you last night, how could you have entered that woman’s room? Clearly, sleepwalkers can’t be trusted.”
At this, Jiang Li vaguely recalled something. “Fine, I’ll help. I’ll open the window and let you go.”
“No, fox! I didn’t follow you all the way from the hospital just for a field trip! Just keep me as a pet for now, okay? I’ll explain everything later—this isn’t the place to talk.” The weasel kept an ear on the commotion outside while pleading its case.
Noticing Jiang Li’s slight hesitation, the weasel doubled down, this time playing the sympathy card. “I’m like you—possessing someone else’s body. But I’m worse off. The original owner’s a vegetable, still lying in the hospital. We’re practically fellow villagers—take me in, won’t you?”
Gritting its teeth, the weasel played its trump card. “Don’t you want to do fun things with that woman? The naughty kind? I can help restore your Gland! Right now, she can’t live without you, but once she finds a mate and gets marked, you’ll be useless. She’ll abandon you. Fixing your Gland and making her fall for you is the only way to stay by her side. Being her lover or her pet—you know which to choose, right?”
Moments later, Jiang Li opened the bathroom door, the weasel perched on her shoulder, its round eyes wide with curiosity, its tiny head swiveling around, putting on an innocent, adorable act.
Jiang Li spoke first. “Miss Bai, I want to keep it. I’ve named it Huang Xianxian.” She reached up to pat Huang Xianxian’s head, then looked at Bai Muqin with hopeful eyes.
Aunt Zhang noticed that the weasel seemed somewhat intelligent and didn’t dare offend it. She whispered to Bai Muqin, “Miss Bai, weasels are wild animals, and they don’t smell very pleasant either.”
Bai Muqin slightly furrowed her brows. Aunt Zhang thought her words had taken effect, but then she heard, “If you keep it, you must take responsibility for its care. Its health, hygiene, meals—all need your attention, and you must ensure it doesn’t harm anyone. Do you think you can do that?”
Huang Xianxian remarked, “Huh, this woman seems quite reasonable. Looks like you won’t need to use your charm.”
Jiang Li nervously glanced at Huang Xianxian, signaling with her eyes: Stop blabbering.
Huang Xianxian reassured, “Relax, they can’t hear me. At most, they’ll think I’m just making noise.”
Hearing this, Jiang Li felt relieved and solemnly promised Bai Muqin, “I’ll take responsibility! And it’s very well-behaved and listens to me!”
To prove her point, she turned to Huang Xianxian. “Do a handstand for them.”
Huang Xianxian cursed, “Fox, are you messing with me?!” Though she grumbled, for the sake of survival, she obediently did a handstand. After the performance, she didn’t find it odd—after all, some cats and dogs could do it too. What was so strange about a naturally gifted weasel doing a handstand?
Qin Nian, who had been observing Huang Xianxian from a distance, couldn’t help but marvel. The weasel didn’t seem so scary after all—it was even a little cute. She cautiously moved closer and asked curiously, “Ah Li, how does it understand you? What else can it do?”
Jiang Li replied naturally, “Well, I’m a fox spirit, so it’s normal for me to communicate with it.”
“What else can it do? Show us.”
Huang Xianxian muttered, “Damn idiot, treating me like a circus monkey?”
After cursing, she obediently performed a bow and a “congratulations for wealth” gesture.
Unable to contain her curiosity, Qin Nian reached out to pet it. Fortunately, Huang Xianxian was clean and odor-free. To secure her place in the household, she cooperated fully with Qin Nian’s interactions.
Jiang Li even placed Huang Xianxian in Qin Nian’s arms, where the weasel turned on the charm, winning Qin Nian’s affection.
“Master~” Jiang Li called out softly, “I’ll take good care of it, just like how you took me in.”
Bai Muqin’s expression softened further. Meeting Jiang Li’s determined gaze, she replied, “Alright.”
After a simple breakfast, Bai Muqin asked Qin Nian to take Jiang Li and Huang Xianxian to the vet for a checkup and a bath. She then pulled Jiang Li back to their room to release some pheromones for her as a meal.
Huang Xianxian sneaked into the room too, cheering the whole time, “Fox, use your seductive skills! Get your woman to release more pheromones! No wonder you love her scent so much—S-grade pheromones really are amazing.”
Afterward, Jiang Li pinched Huang Xianxian’s ear hard. “If you disturb me during my meals again, I’ll throw you out.”
Huang Xianxian whimpered pitifully, “Don’t! The key to repairing glands is absorbing more pheromones. I’m just keeping my promise!”
After getting into Qin Nian’s car, Huang Xianxian continued educating Jiang Li about how to repair her gland. Having followed Jiang Li all this way, she noticed that Jiang Li could convert pheromones into magical power to enhance her cultivation. So she suggested using cultivation to restore the gland.
“While improving your cultivation, why not help me out too? Wake me up from my vegetative state—it’s killing two birds with one stone!” Huang Xianxian ultimately couldn’t resist revealing her true motive.
Jiang Li didn’t respond because Huang Xianxian had already been taken away by the vet for examination. After about an hour—following a series of checkups, vaccinations, and a bath—she was finally brought back. These days, the staff at pet clinics were used to all kinds of unusual pets.
Qin Nian couldn’t put down the now sweet-smelling Huang Xianxian, nearly showering her with kisses.
Huang Xianxian winked suggestively at Jiang Li. “Fox, you wouldn’t leave me to die, would you? From what I remember, the original owner’s daughter is going to pull my oxygen mask off in three months!”
