Transmigrated as an Alpha, the Fox Spirit Lives on Pheromone - Chapter 19
This was an unprecedented sensation—like tasting the most exquisite delicacy in the world or obtaining its most precious treasure. Jiang Li experienced a unique kind of happiness, especially in that final moment when Bai Muqin bit the nape of her neck. Her mind went blank, and a heavy, fulfilling satisfaction flooded every part of her body. Jiang Li imagined that even the bliss of attaining immortality might not compare to this.
She didn’t understand why she had made such coy sounds, nor why her every movement had been so alluring, as if instinctively luring in prey.
Bai Muqin, however, seemed thoroughly pleased. Even after one taste, she was unwilling to let go.
Jiang Li was naturally delighted. Though her master felt somewhat unfamiliar at this moment, she still did her utmost to please her.
Until her consciousness grew increasingly hazy…
Jiang Li suddenly realized she couldn’t possibly process such potent pheromones.
Before she could think further, the overwhelming pheromones had already spread rampantly through her body…
Driven by an animalistic instinct for self-preservation, Jiang Li fell into unconsciousness—even accidentally reverting to her true form for a brief moment.
An indeterminate amount of time later, Jiang Li faintly heard Bai Muqin calling her name. She wanted to respond, but it was as if she were a tiny insect trapped in a spider’s web, unable to move a muscle.
Bai Muqin settled Jiang Li onto the bed and summoned Doctor Zhou, explaining what had happened. The usually composed and calm woman rarely wore such an expression of shame and guilt.
Doctor Zhou’s heart gave a slight jolt, but she had no time to dwell on it, immediately checking Jiang Li’s condition instead.
A preliminary examination revealed nothing seriously wrong.
She glanced at the thermometer she had just retrieved from under Jiang Li’s arm. “Simply put, she’s running a fever—38.5°C, not too high. But whether it’s caused by the pheromones remains unclear. We’ll have to wait for my lab results. The problem is, her body rejects medication, so we can only rely on physical cooling methods.”
Doctor Zhou applied a cooling patch to Jiang Li’s forehead, then instructed Bai Muqin on some precautions before leaving with the bl00d samples for testing.
Burdened by guilt, Bai Muqin stayed by Jiang Li’s side, watching as she curled up like an abandoned kitten, trembling slightly—so fragile and helpless that it deepened Bai Muqin’s remorse.
She reached out to brush away the stray strands of hair clinging to Jiang Li’s face, her fingers lingering on the soft skin before giving it an involuntary pinch.
Gazing at Jiang Li’s devastatingly beautiful features, Bai Muqin suddenly realized that compared to her merely pleasant appearance when they first met, Ah Li had grown increasingly captivating without her noticing.
Recalling Jiang Li’s unusual constitution and the sincerity with which she had claimed to be a fox spirit, Bai Muqin thought that if Ah Li truly were a fox spirit, everything would make perfect sense.
But where was the fox spirit in Ah Li? Aside from those alluring moments when she clung to Bai Muqin for pheromones, she was usually just adorably silly. And last night, Bai Muqin had been the one taking the initiative the entire time—Ah Li had simply complied, no different from usual. As Bai Muqin calmly reflected on the events of the previous night, aside from those blush-inducing scenes, she felt as though she had overlooked something important.
She vaguely remembered sensing something off last night but couldn’t quite recall what it was. As she pondered, she absentmindedly pinched Jiang Li’s delicate, flawless cheeks. Just as she was deep in thought, Jiang Li let out a faint whimper—whether from her playful pinching or the cooling patch taking effect, Jiang Li gradually relaxed her body and unconsciously snuggled closer to Bai Muqin.
Looking at her innocent and harmless appearance, Bai Muqin still couldn’t associate her with a fox spirit. She even mocked herself for having such a wild imagination—instead of taking responsibility, she was making these almost fantastical assumptions to shirk accountability.
But the next second, reality slapped her hard in the face.
She stared unblinkingly at the scene before her, several fluffy white tails had sprouted from Ah Li’s back, eerie and horrifying. She forgot to be afraid, forgot even to blink. Though her expression remained blank, her mind was in complete turmoil.
She finally remembered what had felt off—aside from the fox-like creature she saw before passing out, she had also caught the scent of other pheromones…
Just as she stood frozen in shock, the tails wrapped tightly around Jiang Li, cocooning her completely without a single gap, resembling a giant silkworm cocoon at first glance.
“Ah Li? Ah Li?” Bai Muqin called out to the white cocoon. The situation had spiraled far beyond her imagination. She racked her brain for any explanation but found none—the only conclusion she could draw was that Ah Li truly was a supernatural being, a fox spirit entirely at odds with her gentle nature.
Bai Muqin pressed a hand to her pounding heart. After the initial fright, as her mind gradually calmed, an overwhelming sense of exhilaration replaced her unease.
She didn’t understand why she accepted it so quickly—was it because Ah Li had given her enough hints, or because she had never truly forgotten the stories of San Niang and Shi Yi Niang…
Gazing at the cocoon, she fell into deep thought, Ah Li, are you a gift from the heavens? Could you be my San Niang?
Unable to suppress her curiosity, she boldly reached out to touch the cocoon. The fur under her fingers was soft and smooth, warm to the touch.
Before she knew it, her palm had already traced the curve of the cocoon several times.
Emboldened, she pressed her ear against the cocoon, listening carefully. Though faint, she could hear Ah Li’s heartbeat, and her anxiety eased slightly—as long as she was alive, that was enough.
Bai Muqin stayed by the cocoon for a long time, only leaving to eat something when her stomach protested.
Though she had accepted that Ah Li was a fox spirit, figuring out how to restore her to normal was a problem she couldn’t ignore.
After much reflection, she concluded that she was undoubtedly the cause of Ah Li’s current state. Ah Li had initially fed on her pheromones, but last night, she had forcibly injected an excessive amount into Ah Li’s body. Perhaps Ah Li couldn’t handle it and needed time to digest the surplus, hence transforming into this cocoon to absorb the excess pheromones slowly.
Bai Muqin couldn’t help but sigh. What a fool, why accept everything unreservedly without knowing how to refuse?
On her way back to the room, Bai Muqin accidentally spotted the roast chicken on the coffee table. She looked around, searching for Huang Xianxian.
She asked Zhao Ma, “Zhao Ma, have you seen Huang Xianxian today?”
Zhao Ma took a moment to process the question before replying, “Miss Bai, are you referring to that weasel? Last night I saw it eating roast chicken here with Ah Li, and it told me not to throw away the leftovers.” She thought for a while longer. “Come to think of it, I haven’t seen it since then. Even Ah Li hasn’t come downstairs from the upper floor. Miss Bai, Doctor Zhou came earlier—is something wrong?”
“It’s nothing serious. Ah Li isn’t feeling well. You can go about your duties.”
“Oh, and my room doesn’t need cleaning. Don’t let anyone enter for the next few days.”
Zhao Ma nodded. “Understood, Miss Bai.”
Bai Muqin searched the villa for a while but couldn’t find even a trace of the weasel. She wondered if Huang Xianxian, like Ah Li, had also become a spirit.
Suppressing her embarrassment, she called out, “Great Immortal Huang?”
No response. Fortunately, no one else heard her.
Remembering that Qin Nian was quite close with Huang Xianxian, she decided to call and ask.
Bai Muqin: “Do you know where Huang Xianxian usually stays?”
Qin Nian: “Sis, you’re skipping work just to look for it? Doesn’t it usually sleep with Ah Li? Just call Ah Li, and it’ll come.”
Bai Muqin: “Never mind, I’ll keep looking.”
Qin Nian: “Is something wrong? I’ll come home right away.”
Bai Muqin didn’t plan to hide it from Qin Nian. When Qin Nian arrived home and saw the enormous white cocoon on the bed, she blurted out, “Holy crap!”
“Is this Ah Li?” Qin Nian asked incredulously, her legs going weak as she leaned against the wall near the door, too afraid to approach.
“What if a monster hatches out of it?” Qin Nian mused aloud, her imagination running wild. After receiving a sharp glare from Bai Muqin, she quickly clamped her mouth shut, afraid she might say something even more outrageous.
Bai Muqin briefly explained how Jiang Li had ended up like this, attributing it to a fever and omitting the more intimate details. No matter what, she didn’t want to give Qin Nian any material for teasing.
She continued, “I suspect Huang Xianxian might know how to resolve this.”
Qin Nian nodded in agreement, then made a face as if she’d seen a ghost. “So, you’re saying Huang Xianxian is probably, maybe, possibly… a weasel spirit?”
“Mm-hmm.”
“Oh my god, I hope she doesn’t hold a grudge. I accidentally plucked a few tufts of her fur before…”
Still reeling from the shock, Qin Nian managed to crack a few jokes. Though she was scared, after spending so much time with Ah Li and Huang Xianxian, she knew their temperaments well enough. She just hoped they weren’t secretly plotting to eat them.
The two decided to search the hospital, believing there must be some connection between the Huang Xianxian lying in the hospital bed and the one they had taken in.
When they arrived at Huang Xianxian’s hospital room, they found the bed empty.
Qin Nian asked a nurse and learned that Huang Xianxian, who had been in a coma, miraculously woke up last night, though she seemed a bit dazed and slow. Wen Rou insisted on taking Huang Xianxian out of the hospital. After examinations showed all her physical indicators were normal, the doctor approved their discharge request.
“Help! Is anyone going to save this Great Immortal?”
Bai Muqin faintly heard someone calling for help as soon as she entered the ward. After the nurse finished speaking, the voice became slightly clearer. The person referred to themselves as “Great Immortal,” making Bai Muqin think of Huang Xianxian. But the ward was so small, and there wasn’t a single animal in sight.
She wondered if her nerves were too strained, causing auditory hallucinations. Not wanting to miss anything, she asked Qin Nian, “Do you hear someone calling for help?”
Qin Nian looked at her with concern. “Sis, are you hallucinating? Or are we both hallucinating? Maybe the white cocoons we saw were illusions too?”
Bai Muqin ignored Qin Nian as the cries for help grew clearer, though they sounded weak.
“Fox? Are you here to save me?”
“I—I’m under the bed!”
Bai Muqin bent down to look under the bed and immediately locked eyes with Huang Xianxian, who was stuck to the underside of the bed frame.
Huang Xianxian’s tiny eyes darted around, clearly confused by the situation. She spoke awkwardly, “You can hear me? Where’s the fox?”
