Transmigrated as an Alpha, the Fox Spirit Lives on Pheromone - Chapter 23
Jiang Li slowly opened her eyes, meeting Bai Muqin’s slightly concerned gaze. Her voice carried a pitiful weakness as she reached out with a smooth arm to lightly tug at Bai Muqin’s sleeve. “Master, I’m fine. There’s nothing uncomfortable.”
But her frail, delicate appearance was far from convincing. Her dark, silky hair cascaded over her bare shoulders, and her eyes, glistening like water, paired with her alluring fox-like gaze, exuded a bewitching and tender beauty.
Bai Muqin’s heart instantly softened. The sight of Jiang Li, fragile yet feigning strength, made her want to pull Ah Li into her arms and shower her with affection. Yet she restrained herself and instead asked patiently, “Are you hungry?” She knew she shouldn’t indulge her like this, but as the one responsible for Jiang Li’s condition, perhaps being a little kinder would ease her own guilt.
The corners of Jiang Li’s lips curled almost imperceptibly, a flash of cunning flickering in her eyes. Bai Muqin’s reaction was exactly what she had hoped for. Her spiritual energy was abundant—she had never felt better—but she deliberately played the part of a delicate, fragile creature. She had noticed that Bai Muqin couldn’t resist her like this, as if she had suddenly gained insight overnight, learning to employ a little cunning of her own.
“Mmm, I really miss Master’s scent,” Jiang Li answered without hesitation, leaning slightly closer to Bai Muqin and tilting her head up, trying to get nearer to her gland.
In truth, she wasn’t hungry at all. The pheromones Bai Muqin had infused into her that night was so rich and pure that she wouldn’t feel hunger even after months without feeding. But she knew Bai Muqin enjoyed this feeling of being needed, and she herself longed for more intimacy.
Bai Muqin didn’t suspect a thing, wrapping an arm around Jiang Li as she slowly released her pheromones.
Watching Jiang Li’s intoxicated, satisfied expression, Bai Muqin felt her heart swell with warmth. Yet she also noticed subtle changes in Jiang Li. The once naive and innocent little pet now carried a hint of seductive desire in her eyes, fitting more closely with her identity as a fox spirit.
Still, these changes made sense. After all, Bai Muqin had done this and that to her, introducing the innocent little fox to the pleasures of intimacy. But then a strange thought popped into her head—what if Ah Li begged her to do this and that again in the future? How should she respond?
After feeding, Jiang Li looked utterly satiated, rubbing her slightly rounded belly as if she had indulged a little too much.
Then, out of nowhere, she let out a tiny hiccup. Blushing furiously, she covered her mouth and mumbled, “It’s passionfruit flavored.”
Bai Muqin couldn’t help but chuckle. Ah Li was just too adorable. Who would have guessed that beneath such a stunningly alluring exterior lay such a dorky, cute personality?
Jiang Li knew this small act had won Bai Muqin’s favor again. But ever since her spiritual awareness had grown clearer, many things seemed to come naturally to her. She understood that if she wanted Bai Muqin’s love forever—and not just as a dependent, but as an equal—she couldn’t always rely on her for survival. Humans were like that—the easier something was to obtain, the less they valued it. So, she would use her own strengths to prove her worth in this unfamiliar world.
At present, there was an opportunity to stand beside Bai Muqin as an equal—returning to the Jiang family as the second young miss. That way, she could rightfully have an engagement with her. However, the situation within the Jiang family was an unknown, shrouded in mystery. Her thoughts remained the same as before: she needed Bai Muqin to know first that she was the Jiang family’s second young miss. With Bai Muqin as her support, even if the Jiang family harbored ill intentions toward her, they would still have to consider the Bai family’s influence.
But that night, she hadn’t had the chance to bring it up. Instead, she had experienced a thorough baptism and transformation.
Looking back now, her body still reacted with a hint of bashfulness. What puzzled her, though, was that every time she mentioned or thought about her identity, Bai Muqin seemed to deliberately avoid the topic—even taking advantage of her drunkenness to do such things.
So, was it because Bai Muqin felt insecure and feared she might leave? Jiang Li wasn’t sure, but she didn’t dare test it now. What if Bai Muqin did those strange things to her again like that night? In broad daylight, she still had to consider others’ feelings.
Thus, Jiang Li decided to bring it up again in the evening. Even if Bai Muqin used the same method to silence her, she would be more than happy to indulge.
For now, she set the matter aside and voiced another concern to Bai Muqin, “Master, now that you know I’m really a fox spirit, aren’t you afraid? You won’t drive me away, will you? Will you still treat me the same as before?” She already had an answer in her heart, but without Bai Muqin’s verbal reassurance, she couldn’t shake her unease.
Bai Muqin tucked the blanket around her, as if she had anticipated Jiang Li’s question. She smiled faintly and, seeing Jiang Li’s anxious expression, comforted her: “At first, I was surprised, but not afraid. Besides, you’re so well-behaved and obedient—what would I have to fear? You’ve always said you were a fox spirit; it’s just that I didn’t believe you. I have no right to blame you. Because you’re a fox spirit, you could absorb my pheromones. Our meeting was fate, and we each get what we need—why would I drive you away? Nothing will change. I’ll still treat you the same as before. Don’t worry.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Li’s eyes welled up, glistening as if tears might spill at any moment. She sniffled, her eyes-tinged red, and gently nuzzled her cheek against Bai Muqin’s arm—like a kitten seeking affection from its human, docile and sweet. “Thank you, Master.”
Bai Muqin took the opportunity to ruffle her hair. “Rest at home this afternoon. There’s some business at the company I need to attend to.”
“Okay, Master. I’ll wait for you to come home.” Jiang Li nestled under the covers, bare and expectant. Then, she reached out a smooth arm to tug at Bai Muqin’s sleeve. “Master, there’s something I want to tell you tonight.”
“Alright.” A fleeting trace of unease crossed Bai Muqin’s face—perhaps even unnoticed by herself—but Jiang Li caught it.
Blinking, Jiang Li’s thoughts returned to her earlier speculation. Would her master continue avoiding the topic tonight? Would she pretend to be drunk again and do those pleasurable things to her?
After Bai Muqin left, Huang Xianxian finally emerged from the corner. Seeing Jiang Li’s flushed cheeks and the infatuated, dreamy smile on her face, she couldn’t help but sneer, “You shameless fox, already daydreaming in broad daylight?”
Jiang Li let out a soft hum and didn’t respond. She stretched lazily under the covers, feeling as though she were the happiest little fox in the world.
A sudden weight on the bed told her Huang Xianxian had jumped up.
“Fox, how’s it going? Do you have enough spiritual energy to repair your gland now?”
If Huang Xianxian hadn’t mentioned it, Jiang Li might have completely forgotten about her gland. She reached up to touch the spot where it was located, feeling a slight itch. “What do I need to do to repair it?”
Huang Xianxian replied, “Channel spiritual energy daily to nourish the gland, and it’ll recover quickly. But I remember glands in this world are ranked by grade. If yours is a standard one, it might take about a week to heal. If it’s a high-grade gland, the process could be slower since it’s more complex. Plus, you’ll need a substantial amount of energy every day. Can you handle that?”
Jiang Li sat up, wrapping the blanket around herself in a meditative posture. She guided a portion of her spiritual energy to circulate around the damaged gland. The nape of her neck tingled as if being gently kissed, warm and tingling.
She opened her eyes and asked Huang Xianxian, “Am I doing this right?”
Huang Xianxian climbed onto her shoulder to take a look and praised, “Not bad, fox! With this steady flow of energy, even an S-grade gland could be repaired effortlessly.”
After nourishing it for a while, Jiang Li withdrew her energy. “Better take it slow.” She knew part of the reason Bai Muqin had lowered her guard was because this body’s gland was damaged and posed no threat. Until Bai Muqin fully accepted her, it was wiser to be cautious.
“By the way, can my current spiritual energy wake you from your vegetative state?” Jiang Li understood that Huang Xianxian had brought up gland repair in hopes of getting her help. Though it would consume a lot of energy, having the assistance of a seasoned immortal who’d been in this world for three years would be worth it.
Huang Xianxian thumped her chest in frustration. “Don’t even get me started! My body has already woken up, but without a soul inside, it’s practically brain-dead. The body nearly drained me dry—I was just a sliver of energy away from merging with it when you ran into trouble.”
Jiang Li was baffled, but Huang Xianxian patiently explained everything, clarifying the whole situation.
Worried, Jiang Li asked, “What do we do now? Can you still return to that body?”
Huang Xianxian leaped to the windowsill, gazing at the sun while gesturing with her paws. Then she jumped back beside Jiang Li. “Of course I can, but it won’t be easy. That body has a pure yang fate, and I’m too weak right now to enter it. We’ll have to wait until the day after tomorrow, during the pure yin phase, and use your energy to help me merge. But on that day, some wandering spirits might try to steal the body, so you’ll need to stay sharp. We can’t afford any mistakes.”
“Time’s tight—tell me what to do, quick!”
Huang Xianxian began murmuring about the method of summoning souls into bodies and taught Jiang Li a few spells to drive away wandering spirits. Then, the human and the weasel sat perfectly still on the bed, meditating in unison.
Ever since Bai Muqin left the house, Zhao Ma had been keeping an ear out for any movement upstairs. She knew Ah Li was still in the young mistress’s room and couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. To her, Ah Li—with her fox-like, seductive appearance—was nothing but trouble, and she strongly suspected the girl would steal from her mistress.
Finally, Zhao Ma couldn’t sit still any longer. Pretending to go upstairs to clean, she noticed Bai Muqin’s door wasn’t locked. She quietly cracked it open to peek inside—and what she saw left her gaping in shock. The weasel and Ah Li were sitting upright in deep meditation, a scene so bizarre it was hard to believe. Now she had no choice but to accept the legends from storybooks, spiritual weasels were indeed manifestations of the Great Immortal Huang.
From then on, her attitude toward Jiang Li and Huang Xianxian completely changed—now a mix of flattery, reverence, and a touch of fear.
