Transmigrated as an Alpha, the Fox Spirit Lives on Pheromone - Chapter 29
In the cramped elevator, several female employees greeted Bai Muqin before quietly retreating to the sides. Once they stepped out, they immediately began chattering excitedly…
“President Bai looks like she’s in great spirits today!”
“Almost like she’s been nourished by love.”
“Speaking of which, President Bai’s attendance rate has been breaking records lately. Could it be related to that ‘Little A’ from the Weibo hot search?”
“But we haven’t seen that ‘Little A’ since then. Maybe President Bai has started keeping a lover hidden away?”
Suddenly, they all fell silent before greeting in unison, “Assistant Qin.”
Qin Nian nodded calmly at them and promptly pushed the fox’s curious little head back into the pet carrier.
“Did I just see that right? Assistant Qin brought a pet to the office?”
“Is it a dog? A Samoyed?”
“No way, it looked more like a fox!”
“Hey, Assistant Qin just took the pet carrier up to President Bai’s floor.”
“It must be President Bai’s pet. I’ve noticed she often wears fox-themed accessories—kinda unexpectedly cute.”
Once Qin Nian entered Bai Muqin’s office, she couldn’t hold back her laughter anymore. “Hey, sis, you should’ve heard what they were saying about you just now! ‘Oh, President Bai looks radiant today—must be love!'”
She exaggeratedly mimicked their gossipy tone.
Bai Muqin kept a cold expression, not even bothering to glance at her.
The moment they entered, Little Fox Jiang darted out of the pet carrier and straight into Bai Muqin’s arms.
Snuggled into the soft, fragrant embrace, the little fox let out a satisfied “ao ao” sound and nuzzled Bai Muqin’s arm, urging her to pet her.
Seeing Jiang Li’s pleading eyes, Bai Muqin couldn’t help but imagine:
“Your little fox hasn’t received her owner’s affection for a whole hour—she might get depressed!”
Unconsciously, Bai Muqin’s lips curved into a smile as she stroked Little Fox Jiang’s head, adjusting her securely in her arms to keep her from slipping.
The heartwarming scene of owner and pet in perfect harmony, paired with Bai Muqin’s rare gentle smile, made Qin Nian feel a surge of warmth—though she still had to ruin the mood.
“Sis, Grandpa wants us back for dinner tonight. Don’t forget.”
Bai Muqin’s petting hand paused briefly before she nodded thoughtfully. “Got it.”
She figured her grandfather must already know about Second Miss Jiang’s return.
Qin Nian asked, “Should I take Ah Li home first?”
“No need. I’ll bring her with me tonight.”
Hearing that she could accompany her owner to the old residence, Little Fox Jiang’s ears perked up instantly. Even if she couldn’t go in human form, she was still thrilled.
Bai Muqin seemed to sense Jiang Li’s excitement and gently rubbed her perked-up ears, reminding her, “Behave well. Grandpa doesn’t like us keeping pets.”
Hearing this, Qin Nian swallowed the words she was about to say. It seemed her sister already had a plan and didn’t need her reminder.
Every time they showed kindness to animals, it would enrage their grandfather—let alone keeping one as a pet. He firmly believed that those destined for greatness couldn’t afford to be soft-hearted; decisiveness was key to the Qin family’s success.
As if reading Qin Nian’s concerns, Bai Muqin spoke in a soothing tone, “Ah Li can’t be away from me right now—she needs to feed every hour. Besides, we’re adults now. I don’t agree with Grandpa’s views. A little defiance now and then won’t hurt.”
Qin Nian couldn’t help but twitch the corner of her mouth, wondering if she should find an excuse to skip tonight’s dinner…
–
The Qin family ancestral home was situated on the second highest ground in Yucheng. The original antique-style architecture remained perfectly preserved. Beside it stood a similar residence, though its interior combined modern design—both practical and artistic.
When Bai Muqin carried Jiang Li into the courtyard, the Qin patriarch was watering the flowers.
Though referred to as the “Qin patriarch,” it was only because he was approaching seventy. Perhaps due to his disciplined lifestyle, he looked more like a middle-aged man in his forties.
In Bai Muqin’s eyes, her grandfather seemed unchanged all these years.
She and Qin Nian called out in unison, “Grandfather.”
Little Fox Jiang’s eyes darted around as she studied him. She had assumed this was the “young uncle” her owner mentioned, never expecting it to be her grandfather. What intrigued her more was the faint layer of spiritual energy swirling around the Qin patriarch. However, this energy differed slightly from Bai Muqin’s—though exactly how, the little fox couldn’t pinpoint. After all, a fox’s brain capacity was too small for such complex thoughts.
The Qin patriarch acknowledged them, his gaze locking onto Little Fox Jiang.
“What is this?” The moment he spoke, Qin Nian couldn’t help but shiver.
Bai Muqin, however, remained unfazed. “A fox. My pet.”
The Qin patriarch scrutinized Little Fox Jiang for a few seconds but made no further comment, simply returning to his watering. He only reminded them, “Wash your hands before dinner.”
Qin Nian shot a suspicious glance at the little fox and whispered, “Did you cast some kind of spell on Grandfather? He didn’t even get angry or lecture us like he usually does!”
Little Fox Jiang let out an innocent “awoo” before nuzzling her head against Bai Muqin’s neck, acting as though she had no idea what Qin Nian was talking about.
Seeing Jiang Li couldn’t be bothered to respond, Qin Nian scoffed and followed Bai Muqin inside.
“Mom!” Qin Nian called out the moment she stepped in, eyes still closed. Qin Shuiyue peeked out from the kitchen, her expression gentle. “Muqin and Nian are back! Go relax for a bit—I’m helping with a few dishes.”
“Oh, right. Your uncle is in the study. He said he needed to talk to you about something. Go see him.”
“Got it, Mom.”
“Alright, Auntie.”
The study door was ajar. Bai Muqin knocked before entering with Qin Nian.
“Uncle.”
Qin Yizhi nodded, his gaze settling on Little Fox Jiang. A flicker of surprise crossed his face before he smiled. “They say courage shrinks with age, but you seem to be the opposite.”
But he quickly composed himself and asked with concern, “Did Grandfather scold you earlier?”
Bai Muqin shook her head. “No. Maybe he’s come around.”
“That’s good.” Qin Yizhi reached out toward Bai Muqin. “Let me hold the little fox.”
Bai Muqin was surprised he hadn’t mistaken Jiang Li for a puppy or something. She stroked the little fox’s head, meeting her eyes to ask, “How about letting Uncle hold you for a bit?”
This scene made Qin Yizhi see a shadow of his late sister in Bai Muqin for a fleeting moment. Back then, his sister would also gently hold her pet like this, patiently talking to it.
Little Fox Jiang tilted her head to look at Qin Yizhi. He appeared to be in his early thirties, handsome in appearance, though not particularly resembling Old Master Qin. The corners of his eyes and brows bore some resemblance to her own master.
As the saying goes, love me, love my dog. Little Fox Jiang didn’t object, merely letting out a couple of “ao ao” sounds. Unlike before when she didn’t want Qin Nian to hold her and would bury her head in Bai Muqin’s chest, she now looked at Qin Yizhi with curiosity instead.
Seeing that Jiang Li wasn’t resistant to Qin Yizhi, Bai Muqin handed Little Fox Jiang over to him.
The little fox was fragrant and soft. Qin Yizhi carefully reached out to stroke her, then unable to contain his affection, he brought his face closer, wanting to give her a kiss. Heaven knew how much he wanted to keep a well-behaved pet.
Little Fox Jiang disdainfully pressed a paw against Qin Yizhi’s approaching face, then let out a pitiful “ying ying ying” sound, seeking help from Bai Muqin.
Even though Jiang Li had turned into a little fox, Bai Muqin still felt a strong sense of possessiveness toward her. How could she allow someone else to kiss her? Not even her own uncle would do.
She snatched Little Fox Jiang back from Qin Yizhi’s hands. Meeting his stunned gaze, she said coolly, “Ah Li doesn’t like being kissed by others.”
Little Fox Jiang whined and whimpered in Bai Muqin’s arms as if tattling, occasionally glancing at Qin Yizhi with her little eyes, as if guarding against a sneak attack.
Qin Yizhi was thoroughly amused. It seemed this little fox was quite intelligent.
In the next moment, he felt rather awkward—being rejected by his niece and her pet. Clearing his throat, he returned to the main topic, “That incident with the male model and the trending topic was indeed framed on Li Lan by Jie Mengyue. Relying on her sugar daddy, she played the game of killing with a borrowed sword right under our noses for resources, completely disregarding our Qin family. The industry has now blacklisted her entirely. This is just a minor punishment as a warning, hoping those minor celebrities won’t get any more crooked ideas.”
“I’ve had some business to handle abroad recently and forgot to tell you about it.”
Bai Muqin curved her lips slightly, mindful that her earlier attitude had been somewhat poor, and appeared a bit more obedient, “Thank you, Uncle. It’s good that the matter is resolved.”
Qin Yizhi stood up and straightened his clothes, then smiled again: “Speaking of which, with Jie Mengyue and Li Lan caught up in this mess, that movie resource has actually fallen into the hands of our own family.”
Qin Nian asked curiously, “Who in our family has debuted?”
Qin Yizhi waved his hand, amused: “Not like that. It’s your future uncle-in-law’s company that secured the investment for this movie project. If they cast anyone, it’ll be their own artists.”
He looked at Bai Muqin and suggested, “If you’re interested in this movie project, Mumu, you could invest as well. You could even play the female lead if you wanted.”
Mention of making money made Bai Muqin’s eyes light up. Stroking Little Fox Jiang, she smiled, “I’m quite interested in investing. Since you’ve suggested it, Uncle, I won’t refuse. But acting is out of the question—I have no talent for it.”
She glanced at Little Fox Jiang, then changed her tone, “But I could recommend a newcomer.”
Qin Yizhi naturally wouldn’t miss the chance for gossip, “Is it the one who was photographed before? If your feelings for her are genuine, I’ll argue your case fiercely with your grandfather from the Jiang family.”
Bai Muqin neither admitted nor denied it. “No need to worry about that, Uncle. But when are you going to settle down with Uncle-in-law? From what I know, many Alphas are pursuing him.”
Qin Yizhi sighed, “Your uncle just wants you to be happy, to see someone take care of you first before considering my own matters. I’m afraid that once I start a family, I might neglect you.”
A trace of sorrow appeared between his brows. “I promised your mother I’d take good care of you.”
Mentioning her mother, Bai Muqin only vaguely remembered that she had committed suicide due to depression but couldn’t recall any specific details. The family had always avoided the topic, never mentioning it in front of her. And she, fearing it would sadden Grandpa Qin, had never asked about it.
