Transmigrated as an Alpha, the Fox Spirit Lives on Pheromone - Chapter 3
“Just to be safe, we should continue investigating her identity.”
“And next time, don’t eavesdrop anymore.”
Qin Nian agreed to everything and fully accepted Bai Muqin’s rebuttal. After all, she’d only read about such things in novels—real life was never this dramatic—so she quickly dismissed the matter of the scumbag Alpha. Then she chuckled sheepishly, “I was just worried about you! Those other Alphas usually got kicked out within five minutes, but this Ah Li stayed so long my legs went numb from squatting there for ages.”
She took a sip of water and lowered her voice to gossip, “Sis, since she’s… simple-minded, can she even… you know? She didn’t… do anything to you, right?”
Receiving a sharp glare from Bai Muqin, Qin Nian immediately covered her mouth but couldn’t resist adding, “Never mind, of course not. You’ve turned away countless stunning Alphas—someone like her with just passable looks probably doesn’t even register on your radar.”
An image of Jiang Li’s delicate, pitiful face surfaced in Bai Muqin’s mind—both alluring and innocent. The thought made her lips curl slightly. While not breathtakingly beautiful, “passable” was certainly an understatement.
She set the dishes aside and said mildly, “Enough with the roundabout questions. Doctor Zhou’s hypothesis was correct, and so were the rumors about Hidden Flower Alley. Ah Li really can stop my heats.”
With that, she picked up the prepared meal and headed upstairs, ignoring Qin Nian’s excited chatter behind her.
Pushing the door open, she found Jiang Li curled up like an obedient cub on the plush carpet. At the sound of the door, she lifted her head and beamed foolishly at Bai Muqin. “Master, you’re back.”
Bai Muqin gave an imperceptible nod and placed the plate of food before Jiang Li. “Eat.”
Jiang Li sniffed the plate, swallowed hard, then pushed it toward Bai Muqin. Meeting her questioning gaze with guileless innocence, she said, “Ah Li isn’t hungry. Master should eat.”
Clearly, Ah Li was starving yet offering her food instead. Bai Muqin’s heart softened, her gaze warming as she pushed the plate back. Picking up a piece of beef with chopsticks, she held it to Jiang Li’s lips. “I’ve already eaten. Open up and be good.”
How could she refuse food from her master’s hand? Jiang Li obediently swallowed the beef and, under Bai Muqin’s expectant eyes, devoured the entire plate. After gulping down a glass of water, she immediately hiccupped.
But the next second, her stomach churned violently. Her face paled, her body trembled uncontrollably, and she cried out tearfully, “Master, Ah Li feels sick!” Clapping both hands over her mouth in terror…
Bai Muqin led her to the bathroom, torn between sympathy and disgust as she motioned for her to vomit.
Jiang Li hugged the toilet bowl, retching violently. When it was over, she hung her head in shame, listening to the flush with burning cheeks. “Master, sorry… Ah Li couldn’t help it,” she mumbled.
Bai Muqin sighed and helped her up, had her rinse her mouth, then guided her back to the room. “My fault this time,” she said gently. “You said you weren’t hungry, but I made you eat anyway. Won’t happen again.”
She gently stroked Jiang Li’s head with pity, whispering softly, “Let’s leave it at that for tonight. I’ll take you to see a doctor tomorrow.”
Seeing Jiang Li still tugging anxiously at her clothes, Bai Muqin sighed, feeling a headache coming on. If it were any other persistent Alpha, she would have kicked them out long ago. But Ah Li was such a pitiful creature that even an Omega like herself couldn’t help but want to dote on her. She didn’t know what was wrong with herself today—it seemed her patience had grown inexplicably. She attributed this unusual behavior to the influence of her Heat pheromones.
“Sleep here tonight. I’ll be in the next room,” she said before Jiang Li could react, adding firmly, “I’m not leaving. I’ll be right next door, so don’t act pitiful.”
Jiang Li whimpered softly twice before letting go of Bai Muqin’s clothes. She watched as Bai Muqin left the room, then curled back up on the carpet, showing no intention of sleeping on the bed.
Late at night, Jiang Li followed the scent of passionfruit into the adjacent room. This clearly wasn’t the master bedroom—there was no plush carpet on the floor—but Jiang Li stubbornly slept on the hardwood beside the bed, feeling safe only when close to her owner.
The heat surged back, and Bai Muqin twisted uncomfortably in her sleep. Suddenly, the air around her seemed to cool, and the discomfort gradually faded. Hugging the blanket, she slept soundly through the night.
At seven in the morning, Bai Muqin woke to her body’s natural rhythm. It was rare for her to sleep so well during her Heat without medication, and her mood was unusually cheerful.
But as she stepped out of bed, her foot landed on something soft. Startled, she jerked back and looked down—only to find Ah Li sprawled on the floor. The girl’s clothes were disheveled in sleep, her delicate shoulders exposed, and a generous expanse of pale cleavage visible, hinting at deeper curves. The memory of that softness underfoot made Bai Muqin’s sole tingle, though the lingering grogginess of waking quickly dulled the sensation.
When had Ah Li ended up at her feet? Had last night’s restful sleep been because of her? Bai Muqin pondered this, her morning grumpiness fading slightly.
Early October wasn’t bitterly cold, but spending the entire night on the floor would strain even the hardiest Alpha—let alone someone as fragile as Ah Li with her necrotic gland. The thought made Bai Muqin’s temple throb. How could anyone be this foolish?
Yet the fool in question simply gazed up at her with innocent cheer, chin raised like a kitten begging for scratches.
The sight was equal parts amusing and exasperating. Bai Muqin pressed her foot against Jiang Li’s body in playful punishment—not too hard, carefully avoiding that treacherous softness.
“Awake? Why didn’t you listen to me? Wasn’t the floor cold?” Her tone was flat, revealing neither anger nor amusement.
But Jiang Li sensed the irritation anyway. Clutching Bai Muqin’s foot apologetically, she murmured, “Don’t be mad, Master. It’s my fault—I was too greedy, lured by your sweet scent. The floor was cold, but with you nearby, I didn’t feel it at all.”
Jiang Li’s words confirmed Bai Muqin’s suspicions. Naturally, she couldn’t bring herself to blame her anymore—perhaps she should even thank Ah Li for absorbing the pheromones she emitted late at night, allowing her to sleep soundly. Yet her gaze toward Jiang Li held more scrutiny. When they first met, Jiang Li could barely string a sentence together, yet now she was capable of saying such ambiguous, flirtatious words. Was she truly naive, or was she playing dumb to deceive the tiger?
