Transmigrated Into an Ancient Filial Piety Novel as a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Jiang Yubai ate another rabbit leg and then started on the meat from the rabbit’s belly. Only after eating most of the rabbit’s meat did she feel slightly full. She looked up and saw Ji Huan watching her with a smile in her eyes.
Jiang Yubai’s ears turned red. She pursed her lips, feeling shy, and explained, “I didn’t want to waste it. It’s not that I eat a lot.”
Ji Huan smiled gently and said softly, “Okay, but I’ll work hard from now on to make sure the little rabbit at home never goes hungry again.”
“Little rabbit?” Jiang Yubai murmured, realizing Ji Huan meant her. Her cheeks flushed red, and she felt too embarrassed to eat the rabbit head in her hand.
Seeing her shy, Ji Huan coaxed gently, “Eat quickly. It won’t taste good if it gets cold.”
In winter, night fell early. It was only a little past four, but the light was already fading. Ji Huan planned for them to rest a bit after Jiang Yubai finished eating and then head back to the village. It would be unsafe to return too late.
Jiang Yubai reluctantly ate the rabbit head, unsure if her stomach would be full tomorrow.
Ji Huan crouched down, seeing the little girl did not want to leave, and guessed the reason. She said gently, “I’ll find a way to separate from the Ji family. Then we’ll build our own little home in the village. That way, we won’t have to see those annoying people when we go home. Okay?”
Jiang Yubai’s cheeks turned slightly red. She liked the way Ji Huan spoke to her. But could Ji Huan’s words be true?
Jiang Yubai dared not think too much. Everything today felt like a dream she was reluctant to wake from. Ji Huan was the village’s famous filial daughter. Would she really defy her parents’ wishes and separate to live alone? Wouldn’t that lead to isolation from the village?
Jiang Yubai pursed her lips and sighed. Honestly, she felt Ji Huan had been acting strange since yesterday. She did not believe Ji Huan would truly defy Liu Fengmei. By tomorrow, Ji Huan might return to her old self. Thinking of this, Jiang Yubai’s heart ached slightly.
Seeing Jiang Yubai did not respond, Ji Huan understood the little rabbit’s concerns. After all, the original owner was a great filial daughter. How could she just decide to separate? No matter how much Ji Huan said now, she could not ease Jiang Yubai’s doubts. The only thing she could do was prove her words through actions over time.
Seeing Jiang Yubai’s low spirits, Ji Huan said softly, “Alright, we should head back. If we’re too late, we’ll miss dinner.”
“Still need to eat dinner?” Jiang Yubai asked. After all, she and Ji Huan had been out all afternoon. The Ji family had likely already caused a commotion. Would there even be dinner for them?
“Of course we’ll eat. Let them experience what we’ve been doing every day. From now on, they can’t expect to dump all the work on us two,” Ji Huan said as she stood up to put out the stove.
She and Jiang Yubai had eaten rabbit meat and felt strong. With the weather growing colder, they quickened their pace back.
Meanwhile, in the Ji family’s kitchen, Jisen and Wang Xiuxiu were preparing dinner for the family.
The eldest, Ji Ming, found a novel that someone else was cooking. He wandered to the kitchen, saw Jisen and Wang Xiuxiu busy, and asked with a smile, “Fourth brother, busy? Mother asked me to check on dinner.”
Jisen glanced at Ji Ming irritably and frowned. “What do you think? Same as always.”
“How can it be the same? Today, you and your wife are cooking. I think the food tastes better than Jiang Yubai’s. Fourth brother, I never noticed you two had such skills,” Ji Ming said, grinning and leaning against the doorframe, looking relaxed.
“Stop it. We’re only cooking today. This is Ji Huan and Jiang Yubai’s job. Even if the rules change, each family should take a day in turn. No one gets to slack off,” Jisen said, chopping cabbage forcefully on the cutting board.
Ji Ming, choked by Jisen’s words, stopped teasing. With a dimwit like Ji Huan doing the work, why would he offend Jisen?
He and his wife had two sons. Though it was unclear if they would grow into Qianyuan, they were more cherished than girls. Liu Fengmei favored their family because of the boys and spared them heavy work. Ji Huan, the old ox, was born to do the hard labor.
Ji Ming returned to his room, where his wife sat leisurely on the bed, watching their two sons play. Seeing Ji Ming return, she asked quickly, “Did you check?”
“Yes, the fourth is cooking. Don’t worry. The second is just sick today. Otherwise, all the work would still fall on her and Jiang Yubai. It won’t be our turn,” Ji Ming said, pinching his eldest son’s cheek.
Ji Ming’s eldest son, Ji Dong, five years old, made a face at him.
Ji Ming happily picked up his son and lay on the bed to rest.
Li Yulan smiled and scolded Ji Ming lightly. “Look whose effort it is.”
Ji Ming, in a great mood, praised her. “The biggest credit is yours. Haven’t you seen Mother treat Ji Dong and Ji Xi like treasures? Our family benefits, but it’s tough on Ji Huan’s side.”
“Oh, please. I haven’t seen you help Ji Huan with work. You’re just talking big,” Li Yulan teased with a laugh.
“Do I not want to? Ji Huan’s been filial since she was young, the village’s famous filial daughter. As her big brother, how could I steal her spotlight?” Ji Ming said.
“Taking advantage and acting innocent,” Li Yulan teased again.
As the sky darkened, Ji Huan and Jiang Yubai barely made it back before nightfall. When they returned, they ran into Jisen carrying food to the dining room.
Jisen had worked all day and had just been mocked by Ji Ming. He was already upset. Seeing Ji Huan and Jiang Yubai return as if nothing happened, he exploded. He walked up to Ji Huan with the food in his hands.
“Second sister, didn’t you say you were sick? How do you have time to stroll with Jiang Yubai? This is your work. How could you dump it on me and Xiuxiu?” Jisen’s voice was loud, drawing everyone else in the house to open their doors and look.
Ji Huan coughed lightly and looked at Jisen. “I was sick and felt stifled in the house, so I asked Yubai to go out for some air. Is that wrong? Don’t we two do all this for the family every day? What, you can’t handle one day?”
Jisen, struck speechless by Ji Huan’s retort, was already exhausted from work and had fallen while chopping firewood. Her words made him angrier. “Weren’t you doing it willingly every day? Who forced you?”
Ji Huan’s gaze grew colder as she looked at Jisen. “True. From today onward, I won’t do it willingly anymore. There are five siblings in this family. Excluding the fifth sister, who’s married, each family should take a day to handle the chores. Yubai and I won’t do it every day anymore.”
After Ji Huan spoke, not only Jisen in front of her was stunned, but Ji Ming’s family, Ji Yuan, Ji Mantun, and Liu Fengmei, who had come out to watch, were all shocked.
