Transmigrated Into an Ancient Filial Piety Novel as a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Jiang Yubai took a bath and slept comfortably that night. At some point, Ji Huan had pulled her into her arms to sleep.
When Jiang Yubai opened her eyes, she saw herself nestled in Ji Huan’s embrace, her nose almost brushing Ji Huan’s neck.
Jiang Yubai immediately froze, even lightening her breathing to avoid disturbing Ji Huan.
She woke up around this time almost every day and was used to it, but being held by her sister like this made her feel shy.
As if tickled by the breath on her neck, Ji Huan, still asleep, tightened her hold around Jiang Yubai’s slim waist, pulling her closer.
Jiang Yubai’s heart raced with Ji Huan’s movement. They were already close, and now she was fully enveloped in Ji Huan’s arms. Jiang Yubai, never having experienced this, felt her cheeks and ears flush red, her legs weakening.
She didn’t dare push Ji Huan away. Ji Huan had been kind to her these past few days, and Jiang Yubai feared she might revert to her old self.
Seeing Ji Huan still asleep, Jiang Yubai forced herself not to overthink and rested obediently in her arms.
Jiang Yubai’s gaze occasionally drifted to Ji Huan’s face. In the past, Ji Huan avoided her, as did everyone else. The Ji family treated her like she wasn’t human. Jiang Yubai spent her days working endlessly, with no time for other thoughts. Only these past couple of days did she dare to study Ji Huan’s face closely.
Ji Huan’s skin was fair, not robust like many female Qianyuan. From her appearance alone, Ji Huan seemed more like a Kunze. As Jiang Yubai looked, her face reddened.
She recalled the events of these past few days and their interactions. Jiang Yubai realized she blushed more often now, especially when Ji Huan smiled at her or looked her way.
She remembered what her mother had told her when she was alive: one day, she’d meet a Qianyuan who would protect her and make her happy. Back then, Jiang Yubai thought her mother was teasing her and didn’t take it seriously. Now, hadn’t Ji Huan been protecting her these past few days?
Jiang Yubai’s delicate eyelashes fluttered, her heart racing, her ears burning hot.
She buried her face in Ji Huan’s chest, feeling annoyed with herself. The sky was faintly brightening, and she had been staring at Ji Huan for so long, thinking about these things in broad daylight? Her eyes reddened with embarrassment, and she didn’t dare look at Ji Huan’s face again.
When the roosters outside crowed, Ji Huan stirred awake. Her mind cleared, but her eyes were too sleepy to open. She reached for the warm thing in her arms, found it comfortable, and instinctively held it tighter.
Feeling the thing in her arms move, Ji Huan slowly opened her eyes and saw the little rabbit in her embrace, her cheeks and ears bright red.
Ji Huan coughed lightly and quickly released her. She thought to herself, she really wasn’t well-behaved in her sleep, always holding the little white rabbit.
“Sorry, I’m not very still when I sleep. I didn’t disturb you, did I?” Ji Huan asked, genuinely apologetic.
Jiang Yubai shook her head, her face red. She had slept soundly these past two nights, even more comfortably than in recent months. Before, sleeping on straw, she always felt on edge, often dreaming of Liu Fengmei and the Ji family troubling her. But these two nights, held in Ji Huan’s arms, she slept more peacefully than ever.
Thinking this, Jiang Yubai’s cheeks reddened further.
“It’s fine. I slept deeply,” Jiang Yubai said softly, lowering her eyes, not daring to meet Ji Huan’s gaze.
Ji Huan saw the little rabbit’s obedience, her eyes curving slightly. She watched Jiang Yubai for a moment, but Jiang Yubai didn’t meet her gaze.
Ji Huan’s eyes curved more, and just as she was about to say something, a commotion erupted in the yard, soon followed by loud arguing.
“You cursed wretch! With so many people in this house, why should the eldest son and his wife do these chores? Ji Ming, you’ve been so good to them, and not one person helps you,” Li Yulan’s voice rang out early in the yard. Ji Huan felt she was standing near their door, deliberately speaking for her to hear.
“Alright, enough. Say less. Go prepare breakfast. I’ll fetch water. Honestly, why’s the kitchen tank empty?” Ji Ming muttered, glaring at Ji Sen’s door, thinking Ji Sen was lazy and didn’t fill it yesterday.
“Nonsense, Ji Ming, can’t you be more capable? Useless…” Li Yulan grumbled, still cursing as Ji Ming pulled her away.
Jiang Yubai pursed her lips and looked at Ji Huan. “Sister, is it okay if we don’t get up?”
Ji Huan saw Jiang Yubai speaking to her, her expression softening. She said gently, “It’s fine. I’ve got everything handled.”
Ji Huan reached out and patted Jiang Yubai’s head. The little rabbit had just washed her hair last night, and it felt soft, like an animal’s fluffy fur.
Jiang Yubai, patted on the head, sneaked a glance at Ji Huan with red ears. Seeing Ji Huan’s gentle, smiling eyes, her heart raced inexplicably. These past two days, she kept feeling this way.
After teasing Jiang Yubai for a bit, Ji Huan and Jiang Yubai got up. They fetched water from the yard’s tank to wash their faces. As they did, they ran into Li Yulan.
Li Yulan saw Ji Huan holding a basin of water and said sarcastically, “Not city folk, yet so particular, wasting so much water.”
Ji Huan looked at her coldly and sneered. “We’re not like your family of four, sister-in-law, who use the most water. You and big brother never fetch water from the river. Why didn’t you think you were wasteful then? Why’s the standard different for Yubai and me? You’re quite the performer, acting virtuous in public but showing your true face in private.”
“You, Ji Huan, I’m your sister-in-law. Don’t go too far,” Li Yulan said, panting with anger. She knew she was in the wrong and couldn’t argue back.
“I’m just stating facts. If you think I’m wrong, we can call the whole village to judge. Everyone’s eyes are clear. They know who chops firewood, fetches water, and plants crops every day. The villagers have their own measure. We can let them decide,” Ji Huan said, her expression growing colder.
Li Yulan, intimidated by Ji Huan’s stare, glared back unhappily and went to the kitchen to make breakfast.
Ji Huan didn’t bother arguing further. She carried the water and returned to the room with Jiang Yubai to wash up.
