Transmigrated Into an Ancient Filial Piety Novel as a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
In the kitchen, only Ji Huan and Jiang Yubai remained. Jiang Yubai asked quietly, “Sister, are we really staying here long-term?”
Ji Huan smiled at her and said softly, “Don’t worry. The Ji family might come for us soon, but this time, we won’t go back so easily.”
Jiang Yubai didn’t understand what Ji Huan planned, but Ji Huan’s relaxed tone made her feel relieved too.
After tidying the kitchen, Ji Huan took Jiang Yubai’s hand and returned to their room.
During the idle winter season, there wasn’t much work to do. Ji Huan lay on the bed to rest and gather energy. If the Ji family came later, she had things to discuss with them.
She saw Jiang Yubai sitting on a bench, lifted the outer blanket, patted the spot beside her, and said, “Come lie down with me. Why sit there foolishly?”
Jiang Yubai’s ears turned slightly red. Even though she knew Ji Huan didn’t mean anything by it, she felt shy. The room was cold, and she had nothing to do, so she obediently climbed onto the bed and lay beside Ji Huan.
Ji Huan covered her with the blanket, then lay down and closed her eyes to try to sleep.
Jiang Yubai lay for a while and saw Ji Huan was quiet. She secretly turned her body to face Ji Huan on the bed.
Jiang Yubai didn’t know why she did this; she just wanted to look at Ji Huan.
With Little White Rabbit staring at her, Ji Huan, who was trying to fall asleep, noticed. She opened her eyes and caught Little White Rabbit sneaking a peek.
Ji Huan winked at Jiang Yubai and smiled, asking, “Do I look good?”
Jiang Yubai lowered her eyes, not daring to meet Ji Huan’s gaze. She pulled the blanket up to cover half her flushed face.
Ji Huan chuckled softly, noticing Little White Rabbit’s ears turn red too.
Ji Huan reached under the blanket, found Little White Rabbit’s hand after a moment, and tapped it lightly with her finger, smiling, “Why so shy? It’s not like I won’t let you look.”
After that, Little White Rabbit buried nearly her whole face in the blanket.
Ji Huan saw her thin skin and said softly, “Alright, I won’t tease you. You’ve been on edge all morning. Lie down properly and sleep.”
Then Ji Huan closed her eyes, ready to sleep for real this time.
Jiang Yubai kept her head buried for a while before lifting it. Seeing Ji Huan didn’t open her eyes, she relaxed slightly. She noticed that since falling into the water, Ji Huan not only treated her well but also loved teasing her.
The blanket felt warm. Jiang Yubai fell asleep at some point.
The room was still a bit cold. While sleeping, Ji Huan pulled Jiang Yubai into her arms again. Jiang Yubai, as if used to it, nestled naturally in Ji Huan’s embrace, sleeping soundly.
When Ji Huan woke, she saw a soft, sweet-smelling rabbit in her arms. She didn’t know when she had pulled Jiang Yubai close again.
Jiang Yubai lay against her, the blanket warm. Ji Huan didn’t want to lose the cozy warmth they’d built up, so she didn’t let go of Jiang Yubai.
She looked down at Little White Rabbit and saw her long eyelashes fluttering. Ji Huan’s eyes curved slightly. She couldn’t understand why such a beautiful girl was avoided by the villagers.
Her hand, resting behind Jiang Yubai’s waist, gently rubbed it. Her palm felt warm and comfortable. Ji Huan wondered if it was her imagination, but Jiang Yubai’s body seemed warmer than hers. Otherwise, she wouldn’t keep pulling the girl into her arms while sleeping.
Little Rabbit slept deeply. Seemingly annoyed by Ji Huan’s hand moving on her lower back, she nestled her head into Ji Huan’s neck and rubbed gently. Ji Huan’s smile grew wider. She liked it when Little Rabbit acted spoiled with her, but the awake Little White Rabbit was too shy to rub against her like this.
After holding Jiang Yubai and watching her for a while, Jiang Yubai slowly woke.
Still half-asleep, Jiang Yubai looked up and saw Ji Huan’s face close by. She tried to move back, but Ji Huan’s arm held her waist, leaving no room to retreat. The shy Little Rabbit panicked and buried her face in Ji Huan’s chest.
Ji Huan saw Little White Rabbit’s shyness, gently patted her back, and soothed softly, “What’s wrong with this? We’re married. What’s wrong with waking up in my arms?”
Then Ji Huan noticed Jiang Yubai’s neck turned red too. She shook her head, chuckling. If she were interested in romance, this shy Little Rabbit would’ve been eaten up already.
“Sister, stop talking,” Little Rabbit’s voice came from Ji Huan’s chest, softer than a kitten’s meow.
Ji Huan gently patted Little Rabbit in her arms and said softly, “Alright, I won’t tease you.”
Jiang Yubai stayed nestled in Ji Huan’s arms. When Ji Huan teased her, she felt shy. When Ji Huan stopped talking, she still felt shy.
She felt Ji Huan watching her. Jiang Yubai sneaked a glance and met Ji Huan’s smiling eyes. She shyly buried herself back in Ji Huan’s chest.
Ji Huan saw Little Rabbit’s shyness and chuckled, rubbing Jiang Yubai’s hair, “Hug me more in the future, and you’ll get used to it.”
Jiang Yubai’s cheeks flushed, her heartbeat growing heavier. Hug more in the future? Did Sister like being close to her?
Jiang Yubai felt sweetness in her heart, like a sweet seed planted there. As her mindset changed day by day, the seed seemed to sprout.
“Bang, bang, bang.” A knock came from outside, followed by Ji Wen’s voice, “Ji Ming is here. He’s waiting in the dining hall. Do you want to see him or not?”
Hearing Ji Wen’s voice, Ji Huan felt the Little Rabbit in her arms grow warmer. She gently touched Jiang Yubai’s hair to soothe her and casually replied, “I’ll go now. Thanks for letting me know.”
“What’s the trouble? We’re family,” Ji Wen said, then left quickly.
Ji Huan looked down at Little White Rabbit, her lips curving slightly. The fish took the bait.
“Let’s go see Ji Ming,” Ji Huan said softly.
Jiang Yubai slightly rose from Ji Huan’s arms, her ears still red. She didn’t dare look at Ji Huan and climbed off her on her own.
Ji Huan’s eyes curved. Little White Rabbit’s flustered look was quite cute, but now there was business to handle. She needed to see Ji Ming first.
Ji Huan got up, folded the blanket, put on her outer dress, and walked with Jiang Yubai to the dining hall.
Ji Ming had been sitting in the dining hall for a while. Seeing Ji Huan, he felt relieved but also nervous. Ji Huan’s recent changes were too big. He worried he wouldn’t get anywhere with her, and he feared Second Uncle’s family might mock him.
Ji Ming stood, forced a smile at Ji Huan, and spoke more gently than usual, “Second Sister, we’re family. Father and Mother said you won’t have to work so hard anymore. The chores will rotate daily among the siblings. Give your big brother some face—come back home.”
Ji Huan started gathering her emotions as he spoke these empty words. Her eyes turned red, looking ready to cry, “Big Brother, Father and Mother don’t want to see me. Someone like me would only cause trouble if I returned. Now I can only stay at Second Uncle’s. When you go back, tell Father and Mother their unfilial daughter can’t care for them anymore.”
Ji Ming grew anxious, “No, Second Sister, we were wrong before, but it’s not all your fault. It’s your sister-in-law’s fault. She dawdled over chores, or today’s mess wouldn’t have happened. Don’t worry, I’ll discipline her when I get back.”
Ji Huan shook her head sadly, “It’s not Sister-in-law’s fault. It’s because Yubai and I didn’t do enough. Maybe if we worked ourselves to death in the fields or mountains, Mother and Father would say something good about us.”
“No, Ji Huan, don’t say that. Father and Mother didn’t mean to push you to death. Don’t do anything rash,” Ji Ming said, genuinely scared. Ji Huan exposing this matter already made the Ji family despised in the village. If it led to a death, they’d have no place in the village.
Second Aunt Feng Mei glared at Ji Ming and supported Ji Huan, “Ji Ming, why didn’t you care when Ji Huan worked every day? Now you show up with such easy words. If Ji Huan goes back, won’t your family eat her alive?”
Ji Ming’s face flushed with embarrassment, “Second Aunt, we know we did wrong. We’ll change. Ji Huan staying here isn’t convenient. Let her come home with me.”
“What’s inconvenient? I find it very convenient. My place is spacious. Ji Huan and the others can stay as long as they want. You, stop trying to force Ji Huan back,” Second Aunt Feng Mei continued.
Ji Ming’s face turned red. He looked at Ji Huan, his heart pounding, “Second Sister, there are things I’d like to say privately. Is that okay?”
Ji Huan’s inner self jumped with joy—the fish was hooked. She had things to say to Ji Ming too. But her face stayed unchanged, eyes red, “Of course, Big Brother. Let’s talk in the room.”
Ji Ming’s face lit up. His sister was indeed soft-hearted. Despite the morning’s ugly fight, she still cared about the family, “Yes, let’s talk as siblings.”
“Ji Huan, don’t soften. They’re banking on your kind heart and filial nature,” Second Aunt Feng Mei warned, concerned.
Ji Huan smiled palely at Second Aunt Feng Mei, “Thank you for the reminder, Second Aunt. I’ll just talk with Big Brother. It’ll be fine.”
Jiang Yubai looked at Ji Huan, still worried Ji Huan might soften. But recalling Ji Huan’s behavior these past few days, Jiang Yubai instinctively felt Ji Huan wouldn’t easily agree to return with Ji Ming.
