Transmigrated Into an Ancient Filial Piety Novel as a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Seeing Jiang Yubai remain silent, Ji Huan didn’t feel discouraged. She gave Jiang Yubai a slight smile, climbed onto the bed first, and covered herself with the quilt.
Noticing Jiang Yubai still standing there, Ji Huan lifted the outer quilt and patted the spot beside her. “What are you standing there for? Come lie down.”
Jiang Yubai’s fingertips, hanging by her sides, clenched slightly. Something Ji Huan said made her feel warm, and she didn’t dare meet Ji Huan’s eyes.
Dazed, Jiang Yubai climbed onto the bed and lay beside Ji Huan. Even as she lay down, her heart pounded. Was Ji Huan planning to consummate their marriage in broad daylight?
Seeing Jiang Yubai lie down, Ji Huan got up to pull the quilt over her, then lay back down, thinking about the plot of the original book.
Jiang Yubai, startled by Ji Huan’s actions, had thought Ji Huan might do something to her. Her body stiffened, but Ji Huan only tucked her in and quickly lay back down. Jiang Yubai sighed in relief, yet felt a faint sense of disappointment.
She stole a glance at Ji Huan. Did Ji Huan also think she was unlucky and avoid consummating their marriage because of it?
Jiang Yubai’s eyes dimmed. She buried half her face in the quilt. Of course—Ji Huan’s attitude toward her had been clear before. Only since yesterday had Ji Huan shown her kindness. Jiang Yubai warned herself not to expect too much from Ji Huan. Being protected for one day was already enough. She couldn’t demand more. It was just a life of endless chores, something she had long grown used to.
Ji Huan didn’t know Jiang Yubai was thinking so much. She was busy pondering ways to make money. In her previous life, she was a Jian ware artisan, skilled at firing ceramic cups. But Jian ware required high-quality glaze and clay with high iron content to achieve even color and perfect glaze.
Ji Huan planned to explore the area soon to find suitable minerals and clay and see what teacups this world used and whether Jian ware techniques existed here.
Lost in thought, Ji Huan drifted back to sleep, likely due to the room’s low temperature. In her daze, she instinctively moved toward the nearby heat source and unknowingly pulled Jiang Yubai into her arms.
Jiang Yubai, usually chopping wood or fetching water at this hour, felt uneasy resting in bed with Ji Huan and couldn’t sleep. When Ji Huan pulled her close, it startled her, but seeing Ji Huan asleep, she relaxed slightly.
Apart from last night, no one had ever held her like this, especially while she was awake. It felt uncomfortable, and her body tensed. But staying rigid was exhausting, so she tried to relax and leaned into Ji Huan’s embrace.
Perhaps Ji Huan’s embrace was too warm, and Jiang Yubai gradually fell asleep.
Ji Huan woke to the system’s voice. She opened her eyes, took a moment to adjust, and realized the system was speaking in her mind.
Ji Huan asked in her mind, “Didn’t you abandon me to go on vacation? Why are you back?”
“I didn’t want to come back. Last time, I left in a rush and forgot to tell you—you have a system-provided storage space. Items placed inside won’t spoil. The space is about fifteen square meters, with a height of two point eight meters, like a large bedroom, enough for daily storage.”
The system rambled, sounding ready to ditch her again.
“How do I use this space?” Ji Huan asked quickly, fearing the system would vanish.
“With your mind, like how you sense me. You can sense the space too.” The system, noticing Ji Huan holding Jiang Yubai, teased in its mechanical voice, “Oh, moving fast, huh? Already sleeping in each other’s arms?”
“Get lost. We’re like sisters. What’s wrong with sleeping together?” Ji Huan retorted sharply in her mind.
The system snorted. “Hmph, when you two have kids, I hope you’re still this bold.”
Ji Huan cursed the system’s nonsense in her mind. She had no plans to fall in love, so how could she and Jiang Yubai have kids?
The system vanished again, maintaining its hands-off approach.
Ji Huan sighed, used to her unreliable system. She looked down at Jiang Yubai, asleep in her arms, and her gaze softened.
Jiang Yubai’s fair skin, long eyelashes, and soft, pink lips, even without makeup, made her a true beauty. Ji Huan, pleased, stared at her for a while. Having a pretty woman around was important for someone who loved good looks.
Ji Huan thought hugging a young woman constantly wasn’t proper, but recalling her words to the system, she felt justified. They were like sisters—hugging for warmth was fine.
With that, Ji Huan didn’t let go but couldn’t sleep. She began planning how to deal with the Ji family.
Jiang Yubai slept deeply, feeling warm for the first time in ages. Since marrying into the Ji family, she had slept on a straw pile, often waking up freezing at night, far from warm.
She comfortably nuzzled the warmth in front of her, reluctant to open her eyes. But after a few nuzzles, she slowly opened them and met Ji Huan’s smiling gaze.
“Awake? Sleep well?” Ji Huan asked softly, careful not to startle the little rabbit who had just let her guard down.
Jiang Yubai realized she had nuzzled Ji Huan’s shoulder. Her ears visibly reddened. Had she upset Ji Huan by nuzzling her?
Worried, she glanced at Ji Huan’s expression. Seeing Ji Huan’s gentle smile, she relaxed, though she could still feel Ji Huan’s arm around her waist.
After a moment’s thought, Jiang Yubai, blushing, glanced at Ji Huan, pursed her lips, and, as if resolving herself, said, “I slept well, Sister. Can you let go first?”
Her shy use of “Sister” made her face flush.
Ji Huan, delighted, smiled wider and said gently, “Alright, lie down properly.”
She removed her arm from Jiang Yubai’s waist.
Before Ji Huan could say more, a knock came at the door. “Sis, you feeling better? I brought food.”
Ji Huan, face flushed, coughed from the bed while quickly dressing. “Hold on, cough, cough, cough, it’s too cold in here. I’m coming.”
Seeing Jiang Yubai watching her, Ji Huan winked playfully while putting on shoes to open the door for Jisen.
Jiang Yubai hurriedly got up and tidied the bed slightly.
Ji Huan opened the door slowly, looking weak, and gazed at Jisen outside.
Jisen, seeing Ji Huan still frail, gave up his small schemes. He had hoped to make Ji Huan and Jiang Yubai fetch water. But with Ji Huan like this, she couldn’t. Jiang Yubai, however, was fine. Ji Huan was just sick, not needing constant care—couldn’t Jiang Yubai go alone?
