Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Boss of the Disabled Heroine (GL, ABO) - Chapter 4
“I’ve already registered at the hospital.”
After a moment, Yu Zhiwan gently pushed away the hand covering her forehead.
Liu Huanran froze, about to speak again, but Yu Zhiwan had already closed her eyes to rest, removing the pillow behind her and lying down. Liu Huanran clicked her tongue and eagerly asked if she wanted something to eat, making Pei Yujiang’s lips twitch in irritation.
She only knew that, according to the plot, Liu Huanran would end up with Yu Zhiwan, but she didn’t know when they got together or what their current relationship was.
However, judging by the fact that Yu Zhiwan had kissed her earlier, the two were most likely not officially together yet.
Liu Huanran was clearly trying to win Yu Zhiwan over, but her efforts were painfully awkward. If Pei Yujiang were the patient being cared for, she’d probably want to kick her out.
In the original novel, the main love interest, Liu Huanran, was an unapologetic scumbag Alpha in the early stages reckless, unfaithful, and rarely taking responsibility for her Omega partner.
True to every scumbag Alpha’s playbook, Liu Huanran also had a penchant for destructive tantrums, dramatic zombie-bride makeup, and a pack of equally dubious friends.
Later, Liu Huanran would do a complete 180 in her attitude toward Yu Zhiwan. Despite previously hurling insults, threats, and even physical violence repeatedly trying to force her into submission, Yu Zhiwan would eventually forgive her after empty promises of change and fall into her arms.
Liu Huanran would then rise to the occasion, dismantling Pei Yujiang’s mother’s company, stripping her of protection, and ultimately imprisoning, torturing, and gouging out her scent gland before tossing her into the wilderness to be devoured by wolves.
This seemed to be the standard fate of scumbag Alphas in every redemption story where the Omega turns the tables except, in those cases, the scumbag would be replaced by a transmigrator who’d pamper the Omega endlessly. This time, however, the brutal ending was reserved for her, the female lead’s romantic roadblock.
After watching at the door for two minutes, figuring the timing was about right, Pei Yujiang turned to leave only to hear Zhou Shuyue on the phone with her mother again.
“If it really comes to it, just bring Xiaoyu home? Xiuxiu is there too, so try to keep them from clashing. Once Zhaozhao and I finish our honeymoon, we’ll be back.”
The voice on the other end belonged to Pei Jinhuai, the original host’s mother. The “Zhaozhao” she mentioned was her new wife, Fan Zhaozhao.
The original host disliked both this woman and Fan Zhazhao’s daughter, choosing to live alone instead. Pei Jinhuai was uneasy about it but couldn’t persuade her otherwise. Besides, she was in the honeymoon phase of her marriage and didn’t want to upset her wife over her daughter, so she let her stay outside.
But now that her daughter was injured, Pei Jinhuai couldn’t just leave her alone. She gave her assistant several more instructions before hanging up.
Pei Yujiang spent three days in the hospital before going home.
Honestly, the injury was nothing to her, but during those few days, she realized just how spoiled the original host had been by her family.
That night, bored out of her mind and unable to use electronics due to her head injury, she idly peeled an orange while listening to the news. Zhou Shuyue stared at her as if she’d seen a fish walk, then rushed over to peel the fruit for her.
Later, she was practically waited on hand and foot, a lifestyle Pei Yujiang found quite uncomfortable. After three days, she was finally able to return home.
On the way back, Pei Yujiang once again digested the current plot developments.
At this point, the original owner hadn’t yet descended into the madness of stealing someone else’s love interest. However, after accidentally meeting Yu Zhiwan and being smitten by her beauty, she had begun a long, persistent campaign to win her over.
Only after failing to “steal” Yu Zhiwan did she tear off her facade and bare her fangs.
In other words, in the early stages, she didn’t need to be too harsh toward Yu Zhiwan her earlier behavior shouldn’t count as breaking character.
The original owner’s mother, Pei Jinhuai, was a female Beta who had inherited a cosmetics company at a young age and expanded it into a thriving business.
Early on, Pei Jinhuai had an Alpha marry into her family, and they had their only daughter, Pei Yujiang. However, the Alpha gradually grew dissatisfied, resenting Pei Jinhuai’s dominance as a Beta, and eventually took a lover outside the marriage.
Pei Jinhuai’s divorce from her ex-husband was not only handled flawlessly leaving him penniless and even forcing him to compensate her but she also showed no emotional distress. The very next day after kicking out the cheating Alpha, she was back on the frontlines of business, effortlessly fielding reporters’ questions.
Pei Jinhuai’s second wife, Fan Zhaozhao, was an Omega who brought along a child a few years younger than Pei Yujiang , a girl, also an Alpha. This little Alpha was a spoiled troublemaker, doted on to the extreme.
The original owner had suffered no shortage of grievances at home, but complaining never worked against her. The problem was that Pei Jinhuai knew exactly what kind of person her own daughter was and, for the sake of family harmony, often told the original owner to give in to her stepsister.
In short, the household was a mess, and the original owner grew increasingly reluctant to return, eventually spending most of her time outside.
The car pushed through the rain, entering the quiet villa district, where a few faint lights still glowed through the windows.
It had been raining in Wing City these past few days. The butler, having been notified in advance, arrived early to wait. With a large umbrella, he intercepted Pei Yujiang from the driver’s side, shielding her so thoroughly that not a drop of the pouring rain touched her.
Once inside, a maid came to help her change shoes. Unaccustomed to such pampering and still preoccupied with thoughts of Yu Zhiwan, Pei Yujiang pressed her lips into a thin line.
She stepped into the brightly lit living room. Though it was already past midnight, a comedy show played on the TV. A barefoot girl in loose shorts lounged on the coffee table, munching on chips and giggling. At the sound of movement, she turned her head, her gaze landing on Pei Yujiang with undisguised scorn.
Jiang Wenxiu sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm: “Oh, you’re back?”
Pei Yujiang didn’t stop walking. Behind her, Jiang Wenxiu curled her lip, set down her chips, and sauntered over barefoot. She jabbed a finger hard into Pei Yujiang’s back, dragging out each word with deliberate slowness:
“Are. You. Deaf. Or. Something?” Jiang Wenxiu scoffed. “Quit pretending, you basic b1tch.”
This time, Pei Yujiang turned around.
The girl wore a tank top and loose shorts, her slouching posture and striking looks unmistakably marking her as the original owner’s bratty stepsister. Though still in high school, she had already styled her hair in curls, though now they hung in a messy tangle, making her look like a poodle with unkempt fur.
Jiang Wenxiu had just turned seventeen. Though well-developed, she was still a few centimeters shorter than Pei Yujiang, which unconsciously made her feel slightly inferior at close range. As an Alpha, she had been brimming with confidence ever since her childhood differentiation test, inheriting her mother’s excellent genes, fair-skinned and pretty, if not for her sharp tongue and bratty demeanor.
Being suddenly pinned under Pei Yujiang’s gaze made Jiang Wenxiu uneasy.
Since moving into this household, this was the first time she had such close contact with Pei Yujiang. Their previous interactions had mostly been verbal spats, with Pei Yujiang either unable to out-argue her or perhaps deeming it beneath her dignity to quarrel with someone so young. Either way, the original owner had generally indulged her.
Pei Yujiang’s long lashes lowered slightly, her damp skin porcelain-white under the light, casting faint shadows beneath her eyes. The slight press of her lips betrayed her displeasure, her expression tense.
Jiang Wenxiu could even feel her steady, controlled breath against the tip of her nose.
“What the hell are you?”
“Jiang Wenxiu.” Pei Yujiang enunciated her full name, her voice calm and measured as she looked down at her. “Am I your sister?”
Seeing the two on the verge of another clash, the maids and butler swiftly retreated beyond the battle lines, praying the two wouldn’t notice them.
Pei Yujiang fixed her with a stern gaze. “Apologize to me.”
“Apologize?” Jiang Wenxiu took a step back, shaking off the inexplicable panic from moments ago, her voice rising sharply. “Who the hell do you think?”
Before she could finish, Pei Yujiang swung a fist.
The original owner had few principles in some areas but had at least maintained some restraint at home, tolerating Jiang Wenxiu’s behavior due to her youth perhaps out of consideration for her mother’s marriage. But Pei Yujiang wouldn’t.
Waiting until the girl was grown to discipline her would be too late.
A searing pain exploded in Jiang Wenxiu’s shoulder, sharp enough to feel like her bones were shattering, radiating through her limbs and forcing a cry from her lips. The sheer force sent her stumbling to the ground.
Never in her life had Jiang Wenxiu been laid a finger on. Pei Yujiang’s punch had been so fast she couldn’t even track the movement. Though she had dabbled in martial arts, she was now effortlessly knocked down in a single move.
The tearing agony in her shoulder fueled Jiang Wenxiu’s fury. Eyes red, she lunged at Pei Yujiang with reckless abandon. But Pei Yujiang remained unruffled, catching her forearm with a light twist that completely sapped the force from Jiang Wenxiu’s attack.
To Pei Yujiang, Jiang Wenxiu’s aggressive charge was no different from a child’s tantrum, full of openings. In her time, even a ten-year-old would have put up a better fight.
With a mere flick of her leg against the back of Jiang Wenxiu’s knee, Pei Yujiang sent her crashing onto the hard floor with a thud. Jiang Wenxiu rolled helplessly, struggling even to push herself up.
Panting and bruised, her body aching as if she’d been thoroughly beaten, Jiang Wenxiu couldn’t muster the strength to rise. Her shoulder felt dislocated, useless. The butler and maids watched in stunned silence, unsure whether to intervene as the second young mistress was utterly overpowered.
Jiang Wenxiu touched her face.
Was she really beaten to the point of helplessness by a Beta?
Not far away, Pei Yujiang stood as straight as a towering pine, her damp clothes still clinging to her yet showing no trace of disarray. Outwardly composed, she was secretly gathering her strength, prepared for anything.
The original owner rarely returned home, so the household staff naturally favored the second young lady. Seeing how Pei Yujiang had bullied Jiang Wenxiu, they might call for reinforcements.
Jiang Wenxiu remained sprawled on the floor for a long time, her face lowered as if deep in thought, plotting something. Pei Yujiang’s sharp gaze swept over the wide-eyed butler and maid, who felt a chill in their hearts and quickly averted their eyes, pretending not to witness the dispute between their mistresses.
The water stains on Pei Yujiang’s trousers dripped silently in the tense quiet, shattering the fragile illusion of peace. At the same time, she watched from above as Jiang Wenxiu slowly rose from the ground, staggering toward her.
Her military instincts kicked in, bracing for defense but the next moment, a heart-wrenching wail echoed through the living room. Jiang Wenxiu, now sobbing like a tear-streaked kitten, timidly tugged at her sleeve:
“S-sister… Yujiang-jie, I’ll never dare to do it again…”
