- Chapter 4 - Possession
Before going to bed, Lu Xian recalled the look in Ling Tingyu’s eyes, a nearly obsessive possessiveness mixed with the disappointment of being betrayed.
Lu Xian felt that if she hadn’t called her “sister,” Ling Tingyu wouldn’t have let her go so easily. She might have even dragged her to some remote mountain to dig out her glands.
But how could that be?
At this point in the story’s timeline, Ling Tingyu shouldn’t have turned dark yet.
Lu Xian buried her head under the covers, she must have been overthinking things.
The next day, Lu Xian woke up at eight and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, only to find Lu Li already waiting in the living room with breakfast bought and ready.
Lu Xian paused, then greeted her, “Morning, Sister Lu Li.”
Fresh out of bed, Lu Xian’s pajamas were haphazardly rumpled, the wide neckline of her top slipping off her fair shoulder, exposing a generous stretch of collarbone.
Lu Li remarked dryly, “You’re quite dedicated.” Already trying to seduce Ling Tingyu first thing in the morning.
Lu Xian caught the sarcasm but didn’t mind, simply tugging her collar back into place.
Ling Tingyu emerged from the walk-in closet, dressed in a white tracksuit, her lips naturally rosy against her fair complexion, exuding a fresh, effortless beauty.
Seeing Lu Xian up so early, Ling Tingyu seemed surprised. “You woke up on your own today? Usually, it takes a lot of coaxing to get you out of bed.”
That was the original host, not her. She was a morning person by nature.
“The early bird catches the worm. I won’t be lazing around in bed anymore,” Lu Xian declared before heading to the bathroom. “I’ll go wash up.”
Ling Tingyu took a sip of water, her long lashes fluttering slightly. Something about Lu Xian felt different.
Lu Li scoffed as if hearing a joke. “Tingyu, do you actually believe her?”
Ling Tingyu smiled faintly. “I do.”
Lu Li shook her head. “You’re hopeless. You’d believe anything she says.”
A shadow of melancholy crossed Ling Tingyu’s expression. After discovering the materials in Lu Xian’s study, documents meant to smear her reputation, she no longer had reason to trust her.
Lu Li checked the time. “Let’s get ready. We should head out soon.”
“Alright.” Ling Tingyu portioned out a plate of breakfast and set it aside.
By the time Lu Xian finished her skincare routine and stepped out, the living room was empty.
On the dining table was the breakfast left for her, accompanied by a note:
“Working late tonight. Don’t wait up.”
Ling Tingyu’s handwriting was elegant and poised, each stroke of the characters reflecting her gentle yet resilient nature.
Lu Xian tucked the note into a box, an inexplicable pang of loneliness settling in. They were just a door apart, why couldn’t she have said goodbye before leaving?
After breakfast, Lu Xian wandered around the house, familiarizing herself with every corner. Such a spacious home, yet she was the only one living in it, what a waste.
Their residence was in a high-end downtown complex in Jingzhou, known for its top-tier privacy and security. Most residents were either celebrities or wealthy heirs.
But this wasn’t their marital home, it was a place Ling Tingyu had bought for Lu Xian. They didn’t live together regularly.
On one hand, Ling Tingyu was often away filming, only visiting when her schedule allowed. On the other, they wanted to keep their marriage under wraps for now, so separate living arrangements made sense.
Lu Xian couldn’t help feeling embarrassed. As an Alpha, living in an Omega’s house, essentially freeloading, it didn’t sit right with her.
While reading the novel, she’d noticed something: though Ling Tingyu had always taken care of the original host’s needs, she herself needed care too. Her filming schedule was hectic, meals were irregular, and sometimes she skipped eating altogether to maintain her figure, often pushing herself to the point of low bl00d sugar.
The original owner only knew how to spend money, act coquettishly, and live off others, not even capable of simple gestures of care. This was a major reason why Lu Li disliked her.
Lu Li was one of Ling Tingyu’s most important people, so Lu Xian thought of a few ways to avoid being disliked by her. First, she would stop accepting the meals Lu Li sent, she couldn’t keep freeloading off both Ling Tingyu and Lu Li. Second, she would help Lu Li win back her Omega girlfriend.
As someone who loved shipping couples, Lu Xian’s first thought upon transmigrating into the novel was to reunite all the broken-up pairs in the story. She couldn’t stand the idea of two people who loved each other being torn apart by misunderstandings.
Lastly, there was herself. Since Ling Tingyu didn’t truly love her, Lu Xian considered filing for divorce without taking a single cent in compensation. But then she remembered her current situation no car, no home, no job, not even any friends.
Better to wait it out. She’d just tough it out until the contract expired and figure things out once she had some money.
Just as Lu Xian was pondering what she could do to support herself, her phone buzzed with a notification.
It was the monthly allowance Ling Tingyu regularly transferred to her. Her account balance had just increased by 100,000 yuan total balance: 100,000 yuan. The original owner was truly a spendthrift, leaving not a single penny in the account.
But 100,000 yuan a month was way too much for Lu Xian. In her past life, her savings had never even reached five digits, and that was after scrimping and saving from bit-part acting gigs.
Suddenly coming into so much money without lifting a finger only made her uneasy.
Along with the allowance notification, a flood of WeChat messages poured in. Lu Xian clicked on them curiously, only to be shocked speechless.
Soft-hearted No. 1 Loli: “Big sis, it’s the start of the month. Can you come see me today?”
Soft-hearted No. 2 Cool Beauty: “Waiting for you at the usual spot tonight. Don’t stand me up~”
Soft-hearted No. 3 Mature Lady: “Why haven’t you been replying to my messages lately? Don’t tell me you’ve lost interest in me…”
…
A whole lineup of “soft-hearted goddesses” with numbered tags were queuing up for her attention. Lu Xian rubbed her temples in frustration and didn’t bother reading further. No wonder the original owner was broke every month, she’d been blowing all her allowance on these people.
Worried they might pester her relentlessly, Lu Xian dug through her photo album and found a picture of Ling Tingyu’s collarbone, no face visible, and it didn’t seem to have been posted anywhere else. The original owner must have taken it privately.
She posted it on her Moments with the caption: “My wife is so beautiful.”
That should be enough. Anyone who saw it would get the message.
Ignoring the shocked and disappointed comments, a few particularly snide ones caught her eye. One from a contact named “Little B1tch Ma” stood out: “Are you even worthy?”
What a b1tch.
Lu Xian couldn’t be bothered to engage. She blocked and deleted the comment in one swift motion.
With that settled, she changed clothes and headed out to look for work.
The original owner had grown up in an orphanage. While other kids, sweet and cheerful, got adopted by kind families, she had been a timid pushover, stumbling over her words. Even the director who raised her had scolded her for being good for nothing but eating. Her only redeeming quality was her intelligence, she’d been admitted to Jing University’s computer science program on a scholarship.
Unfortunately, Lu Xian had studied acting, which had nothing to do with computers. She considered starting from the bottom as an extra, earning money while building connections killing two birds with one stone.
Drawing from her experience as a bit-part actor in her original world, Lu Xian decided to try her luck near Jingzhou’s film studio.
But when she arrived, she was stopped at the gate for not having an actor’s permit.
The August heat in Jingzhou was unbearable, and the afternoon sun blazed at its peak.
After waiting for what felt like ages, Lu Xian’s cheeks burned so hot she nearly got heatstroke. Finally, someone emerged from the film studio.
Lu Xian’s bright black eyes lit up as she approached. “Hello, are you a staff member here? Do you know where they’re hiring extras?”
The person looked at Lu Xian in slight surprise with such striking looks, they’d almost mistaken her for a celebrity.
“I’m the production crew manager. If you’re looking for work, I can add you to our group.” The person handed Lu Xian a QR code for the actors’ notification group. “Scan this.”
Unexpectedly, they were quite approachable. After joining the group, Lu Xian said, “Thank you.”
“My name’s Chen Mo. Since we’ll be colleagues now, how about exchanging names?”
“Lu Xian.” Chen Mo handed her an actor’s pass and asked curiously, “Are you an Alpha or Omega?”
Was it really that unclear? Lu Xian replied patiently, “Alpha.”
“You look so fair and delicate almost like an Omega. Never thought you’d be an Alpha.”
Lu Xian offered a polite smile. She didn’t particularly enjoy being mistaken for an Omega either.
Chen Mo rubbed his sun-darkened face. “But being an extra is tough work. A few days under the sun, and you’ll end up looking like me. With a face like yours, it’d be a waste to just be an extra. Too bad I don’t have solid connections, or I’d definitely recommend you for better roles…”
Chen Mo, ironically not silent (*Chen Mo means “silent” in Chinese) kept chattering away.
Then, a ding from her phone came to Lu Xian’s rescue. Cutting Chen Mo off, she said, “Someone just posted about needing extras in the group.”
Seizing the opportunity, Lu Xian quickly typed: I’ll take it!
Chen Mo followed up: Me too!
Lu Xian glanced at him. “Aren’t you the crew manager?”
Chen Mo chuckled. “I moonlight as an extra sometimes.”
Lu Xian: “…”
The job was simple serve as foreground filler, with the only requirement being good looks and presence.
When Lu Xian arrived, the supervisor took one glance and nodded. “You’re perfect.”
Chen Mo, meanwhile, was relegated to background duty. Clearly, he was used to it.
After two hours of shooting, Lu Xian’s shirt was soaked through, her fair cheeks flushed pink. Yet instead of looking disheveled, she appeared even more alluring.
Chen Mo, covered in dust, groaned dramatically. “Life’s so unfair.”
Spotting a nearby café, Lu Xian asked, “Want some coffee?”
Chen Mo hesitated. “Things in the studio area are crazy expensive.”
Whether it was due to her original body’s frailty or not, Lu Xian felt dizzy from the outdoor heat and needed air-conditioned relief.
“Come on, my treat.” She ordered at the counter before settling by the window.
“Lu Xian?”
Hearing her name, Lu Xian instinctively turned.
One of the four girls at a nearby table smirked. “So it is you?”
The other two immediately sneered, closing in to surround Lu Xian. Even Chen Mo shrank back nervously. “What are you trying to pull in broad daylight?”
Lu Xian frowned. “Do I know you?”
“Oh, Miss Lu has a bad memory? Need me to refresh it for you?”
The girl made a grab for Lu Xian’s wrist, but Lu Xian dodged swiftly, brushing at her sleeve as if dusting off nonexistent dirt.
The girl stumbled forward, her face twisting in embarrassment she hadn’t expected Lu Xian to evade her.
A girl sneered, “Martha, she managed to latch onto a sugar daddy with her looks and climb up the social ladder. Why would she still recognize us old classmates now?”
Lu Xian raised an eyebrow. “Martha?”
Ah, so it was Ma Xiaojian from the friend circle. Lu Xian’s dark, gleaming eyes brimmed with mockery. “And I’m Lady Gaga. I don’t have time to waste chatting with you lot.”
Martha’s eyes flashed with anger. “You’re clearly guilty because your sugar daddy dumped you. All those luxury goods you flaunt on social media must be fakes. Your vanity is incurable.”
The original owner of this body had been bullied relentlessly since childhood, with high school being her darkest period. Martha and her ilk had tormented her, mocking her for being fatherless, motherless, and a low-tier Alpha. The original owner never fought back, and the constant abuse twisted her psyche.
Lu Xian had initially planned to ignore these scum, but since they came asking for it, she wasn’t going to hold back.
Just then, a delivery guy arrived with bubble tea, placing it on Martha’s table.
“Is having money considered vanity?” Lu Xian turned her gaze on Martha, scoffing. “Me showing off luxury goods is no different from you posting about your bubble tea. Just because you can’t afford something doesn’t mean others can’t.”
Martha sneered. “You’re shamelessly proud of being a gold-digger. I can’t imagine what your sugar daddy even sees in you.”
“Obviously, it’s because my face is prettier, my hands are prettier every part of me is prettier than yours.” Lu Xian pinched Martha’s chin with her slender fingers. “Look at you, plain round face, crooked teeth, stubby rough hands. Why would a sugar mommy pick you over me?”
Struck where it hurt, Martha flushed with rage. “I’ve never seen someone so proud of being a kept woman! You’re utterly shameless!”
Lu Xian lowered her gaze lazily. “True, I’m not like you, loitering in high-end cafés without ordering anything, mooching off the air conditioning, then pretending to be classy by splitting a takeout order. If you can’t afford it, don’t come in.”
Suddenly, the café’s other customers most of whom were from the same social circles fixed their stares on Martha and her group.
Martha, who loved cutting corners but cared deeply about face, turned red with fury. “Shut up! You’re just a kept wh—”
“Let me correct you,” Lu Xian cut in smoothly. “My wife is rich and gorgeous. If anything, I’m the lucky one.”
The private photo of Ling Tingyu’s collarbones she’d posted pale, alluring skin that screamed beautiful older sister had driven Martha green with envy. Why couldn’t she have that?
Lu Xian tsked at Martha’s contorted face. “But you? Ugly and vicious. Only some old man would settle for you.”
“Lu Xian!” Martha was on the verge of exploding when a café employee intervened. Her friends dragged her toward the exit. “Stop embarrassing yourself here.”
“Wait.” Lu Xian’s aura sharpened, her gaze icy as she stepped closer. “From now on, make sure to steer clear of me. Otherwise, insults will be the least of your worries.”
Martha froze under the oppressive weight of an Alpha’s dominance. Since when had Lu Xian changed so much? This overwhelming pressure… it had to be from an S-rank Alpha.
Her breath hitched. No way. Lu Xian can’t be an S-rank.
At the counter, Ling Tingyu noticed the commotion and moved to intervene, but Lu Li stopped her. “Don’t draw attention. I’ll handle it.”
Before Lu Li could step in, however, Lu Xian had already chased them off with words alone.
Lu Li teased Ling Tingyu: “Sugar mommy, your little white Alpha is all meek at home but throws punches outside, huh?”
Ling Tingyu narrowed her eyes slightly, pausing before replying: “She really has grown up.”
Lu Li sipped her coffee: “She’s quite proud of herself acting so righteous while living off someone else.”
Ling Tingyu also sounded proud: “Well, she is mine after all.”
“…” Lu Li truly had nothing left to say.
Meanwhile, Lu Xian took a refreshing sip of iced coffee, and Chen Mo couldn’t help but give her a thumbs-up: “Impressive.”
After finishing her coffee, Lu Xian didn’t linger. She parted ways with Chen Mo and stepped out of the café when a voice called out to her.
Lu Xian turned around to see Ling Tingyu and Lu Li also exiting the café.
“…” Lu Xian inhaled softly had they overheard everything just now? If so, her pitiful little white Alpha persona might have just crumbled.
Before she could figure out how to explain herself, Ling Tingyu spoke: “Give me your right hand.”
“Huh?” Lu Xian extended her fair, slender fingers. “What’s wrong?”
Ling Tingyu carefully wiped her hand clean with a wet wipe. “From now on, these hands aren’t allowed to touch anyone else.”
Lu Xian suddenly remembered this was the same hand that had gripped Marsha’s chin earlier. !?
