Transmigrated as the Doomed Scumbag Alpha of the Eldest Princess (GL , ABO) - Chapter 22
Jiang Si had a rebellious streak. When Mowan Ci called out to her like that, she felt a surge of irritation and didn’t take a single step forward. Her expression even turned a little serious.
The two of them stood at opposite ends, neither willing to back down.
After a while, Mowan Ci’s face turned slightly red.
Jiang Si suddenly remembered that the princess was still suffering from the poison. It looked like her anger had made it worse. Her heart softened a little.
Maybe she should just take one step forward?
It was just letting her take a look, after all. It wasn’t like she couldn’t bear to be seen.
So she hesitated and finally moved a small step forward. Just then, there was a soft knock at the door.
Lan Shao’s voice came from outside. “Marquis, the Princess needs to take her medicine.”
Jiang Si froze and turned around quickly. Lan Shao had already opened the door slightly and gave her a gentle smile.
Jiang Si strongly suspected that Lan Shao had done it on purpose.
What kind of medicine had to be taken in the middle of the night?
But then again, Mowan Ci did look pale. Jiang Si decided not to argue. She glanced at Mowan Ci but said nothing, then turned and walked away.
Outside the room, there were more people than before. Su Xun and Zhi Miao were still there, and another person had joined them.
It was Wei Nian.
Jiang Si had barely interacted with her. When she went to Shangjing before, they had only exchanged greetings. She remembered thinking how invisible the woman seemed.
But now, her presence was hard to ignore.
Before following Lan Shao into the room, Wei Nian looked at Jiang Si with obvious hostility. Even more so than Zhi Miao.
Jiang Si didn’t understand it at all. In fact, she felt a little wronged.
How was Mowan Ci’s poisoning her fault?
She had dropped everything and rushed back as soon as she heard. Wasn’t that something?
What exactly were these people doing?
Even Lan Shao, who was supposed to be on her side, now seemed to be siding with Mowan Ci.
Was Mowan Ci really that charming?
Feeling frustrated, Jiang Si stood silently by the door for a long time. When Lan Shao still didn’t come out, she started thinking about returning to the North Courtyard.
She had rushed back without stopping and was covered in dust. She wanted to change her clothes.
Jiang Si didn’t need anyone’s permission to leave, but she still glanced at Su Xun before walking away.
It didn’t take long to return to the North Courtyard. Hot water was already prepared. The people in the marquis’s household had known she would return tonight.
After changing into clean clothes, Jiang Si sat down for a cup of hot tea to warm herself. Then she stood and headed toward the South Courtyard again.
She knew Lan Shao was there and didn’t think she could help much, so she walked slowly this time.
That was until one of Su Xun’s personal guards rushed over and reported Mowan Ci’s condition. Only then did Jiang Si truly panic.
After she left earlier, Mowan Ci’s scent had become very unstable. Lan Shao had tried using medicine to suppress it, but it had little effect.
It wasn’t that Jiang Si could do anything in particular. What mattered was that Mowan Ci was still in the marquis’s residence. Su Xun feared something might go wrong, so he quickly sent someone to find her.
Thanks to her recent training, Jiang Si was able to move quickly. On her way back to the South Courtyard, she left the guard far behind.
By now, all thoughts of her earlier standoff with Mowan Ci had vanished. Her mind was filled only with worry and concern.
She had run so fast that her neatly arranged hair had come loose. Her anxious expression made it clear something was wrong.
Zhi Miao usually did not treat her kindly, but at the moment, even she was too distracted to care. She was holding Wei Nian in her arms and looked completely lost.
Lan Shao had just come out and explained that Mowan Ci had entered the Yulu phase.
This type of poison could usually be managed with proper care, but once the Yulu phase began, medicine had little effect.
Lan Shao had sensed that something was wrong earlier and went in to check. Sure enough, the change happened not long after.
She gave Mowan Ci the medicine, but it only lasted for a few minutes before the Yulu phase took over.
Lan Shao was extremely concerned. She and Wei Nian had already scattered suppression powder inside and outside the room, but it would not hold for long.
“The Princess’s Yulu phase is unique. It normally lasts six hours. There’s also a strong chance that a high concentration of omega scent might reduce the effectiveness of the powder.”
“If anything happens, send someone immediately.”
“Also, you’d better leave some of your neutral guards here. Take the Marquis and go farther away.”
Every word Lan Shao said was directed at Su Xun. She completely ignored Jiang Si.
Jiang Si was still catching her breath. Once she recovered, she asked quietly, “What if you can’t create the antidote within six hours?”
She did not mean to doubt Lan Shao’s ability. This kind of worry was simply unavoidable.
Lan Shao understood that too. She was capable, but that didn’t mean she could cure every poison. If she could, then Mowan Ci wouldn’t be suffering like this right now. The antidote would have been ready already.
“I know what I’m doing. Just follow my instructions, Marquis.”
Lan Shao looked at her seriously. Jiang Si nodded before she even realized it. Only after Lan Shao walked away did she wonder why she had agreed so quickly.
But there was no other choice.
No matter what, she didn’t want anything to happen to Mowan Ci.
Their relationship hadn’t reached the point where she needed to worry like this, but she couldn’t help it. She was nervous and restless.
Due to their different genders, Jiang Si and Su Xun moved farther away from the main hall and sat in a pavilion by the lake, watching from a distance.
Su Xun remained quiet. Jiang Si was uneasy.
As dawn approached, she finally turned to Su Xun and asked, “Back in the hall, when I didn’t walk over like she told me to, do you think I might have upset her?”
Looking back now, aside from her cold expression and harsh tone, Mowan Ci hadn’t really done anything wrong. Was it really necessary for her to argue with someone who was sick and poisoned?
“Her Highness holds a noble position, but so do you, Marquis. That kind of attitude was hard to accept.”
Su Xun practiced martial arts and had sharp senses. Mowan Ci’s voice had not been quiet. While Zhi Miao and Wei Nian may not have heard clearly, Lan Shao definitely had, and so had he.
In fact, he heard everything even more clearly than Lan Shao. He had even heard Jiang Si take that first hesitant step forward.
And he believed that if Lan Shao hadn’t come in just then, Jiang Si would have walked straight over to Mowan Ci.
Su Xun respected Mowan Ci to some extent, but what mattered more to him was Jiang Si.
As her lord and someone who had grown up with her, she would stand by Jiang Si’s side no matter what happened.
“My lord, there is no need to feel guilty. The matter of the Princess’s poisoning has nothing to do with you, and even less to do with the Marquis’s residence.”
“Just make sure nothing happens within the Marquis’s estate.”
Su Xun was often cold and quiet, but every word she spoke carried weight and meaning.
Her words gave Jiang Si a rare sense of reassurance, enough that she finally opened up and spoke from her heart.
“I don’t know why, but I feel very uneasy.”
“I didn’t understand Mowan Ci’s sudden episode. I just wanted to go back and rest for a while, but my heart feels unsettled.”
Su Xun held her sword in her arms and stared at Jiang Si without blinking. She clearly did not understand.
Jiang Si gave a small laugh. If she had not known about the complicated love and hatred that would later unfold between Su Xun and Zhi Miao, she might have stopped talking altogether.
This woman was simply emotionally unaware for now, but once she awakened, she would become utterly consumed.
“It’s alright if you don’t understand. Honestly, I don’t really understand it either.”
“Maybe it’s this very confusion that makes me feel so anxious.”
After Jiang Si said all that, Su Xun felt she had to respond. She frowned and followed Jiang Si’s words.
“Maybe so.”
After that, neither of them spoke again. Jiang Si leaned back against the pavilion, pretending to nap.
But in the freezing cold, she could not truly fall asleep. From time to time, she opened her eyes and looked toward Mowan Ci’s room.
Zhi Miao was inside taking care of her, but Jiang Si still felt something was wrong. Her right eyelid kept twitching.
“Su Xun, go bring your personal guard here and ask her to—”
Jiang Si had not finished speaking when the door suddenly swung open. Zhi Miao rushed in, urgently searching for Lan Shao.
Jiang Si immediately stood up and told Su Xun to hurry. She herself walked toward the door.
“What happened to the Princess?”
Zhi Miao was clearly guarded around her. When she saw Jiang Si, she quickly turned her body, shut the door tightly behind her, wiped her tears, and said,
“My lord, it would be better to wait until the military physician Lan arrives.”
So they were on guard against her.
It was understandable.
Jiang Si returned to the pavilion, but her heart was in turmoil.
She felt out of place, like she did not belong there. She silently cursed herself more than once. Even when Lan Shao arrived, she did not react at all.
No one knew how much time had passed before another person entered the pavilion.
It was Lan Shao.
When Jiang Si looked up at her, snowflakes were falling heavily in the pavilion. One landed right on her face.
The cold pierced her to the bone.
Jiang Si did not ask how Mowan Ci was. She only lifted her gaze and looked at Lan Shao.
Lan Shao let out a long breath, then bowed deeply.
“My lord, I am powerless. At this point, the only one who can help Her Highness is you.”
“Me?” Jiang Si pointed to herself, the corners of her lips twitching into a faint smile.
She understood what Lan Shao meant. But what she could not understand was why Lan Shao looked even more anxious than before. Why was there so much uncertainty in her eyes?
“Her Highness has asked for you to come in.”
Inside Mowan Ci’s chamber, the atmosphere was different from earlier. A faint, sweet fragrance filled the air.
The purple curtains added a sense of intimacy and softness to the room.
It was not quite what Jiang Si had imagined, but it still felt strangely familiar.
As if this moment had happened before.
A thin layer of silk clung to Mowan Ci’s flushed body. Her lips were slightly parted as she tried to catch her breath.
Her eyes had been closed, but when she heard footsteps, she turned her head and looked at Jiang Si.
She had those famous peach blossom eyes, eyes that could seduce with just a glance. Normally they were cold and unreadable, but now their affection was laid bare.
She raised her hand and the silk slipped gently down.
Irritated by Jiang Si’s hesitation, she said softly,
“Come here.”
