Transmigrated as the Doomed Scumbag Alpha of the Eldest Princess (GL , ABO) - Chapter 23.3
Finally, she lowered her head and muttered, “It’s gone.”
Mowan Ci released her grip from Jiang Si’s shoulder and waved her hand lightly.
“You can go.”
Her voice held both helplessness and a trace of relief.
Jiang Si could feel it clearly. She lowered her arm and slowly turned to leave the room.
Just as she was about to step outside, someone knocked on the door.
“Marquis…”
It was Lan Shao. Hearing her voice, Jiang Si’s pace quickened. She wanted to ask how Mowan Ci was doing.
When she opened the door, she saw Lan Shao standing there with Wei Nian.
Lan Shao had just pulled her hand back from knocking and turned away. Wei Nian stood beside her, watching anxiously.
A quarter of an hour earlier, Lan Shao had been reading medical texts with Wei Nian quietly at her side. When she suddenly stood up as if she had found a cure, she rushed off without another word.
She only calmed down when she reached the door and heard Jiang Si’s voice from within.
The calmness seemed unnatural to Wei Nian, as though everything was already unfolding exactly as Lan Shao had planned.
Of course, she wasn’t referring to Mowan Ci’s poisoning, but rather, to Jiang Si.
“Marquis, can you still release your pheromones?”
Jiang Si was confused by the question. She didn’t understand why Lan Shao would ask something so private, especially in front of Wei Nian. But she answered truthfully.
“I can’t.”
Lan Shao handed her a pill.
“Take this. Rest for half an hour. I’ll come to you after that.”
“For now, I need to check on the Princess.”
Lan Shao spoke calmly, but Jiang Si felt both confused and frustrated.
There was a suffocating sense of being controlled. Lan Shao didn’t seem surprised by any of it, as if Jiang Si was just a pawn, placed here at this moment for a specific purpose.
It left her unsettled.
Still, this was not the time to argue. Even if she had done nothing wrong, she still worried deeply about Mowan Ci.
She didn’t want anything to happen to her. That worry had no clear reasoning. It simply lived in her heart, hoping she would recover quickly.
So Jiang Si said nothing, took the pill, and left.
As she walked away, she heard Wei Nian whisper in confusion, just as puzzled as she was.
“If the Marquis leaves now, what about Her Highness?”
Jiang Si paused and turned to hear the answer.
But Lan Shao only gave a faint smile before scattering a fine powder from her hand and walking into the room.
Back in the northern courtyard, Jiang Si had barely rested for half an hour before she grew restless and irritable. She couldn’t sit still or lie down, and eventually made her way back toward the southern courtyard.
But as she got close, her body suddenly reacted.
The back of her neck burned intensely. Her Qianyuan scent began to activate and spread, stronger and sharper than usual.
The first to reach her was Su Xun. She and Zhi Miao had remained by the lakeside pavilion. They had seen Lan Shao and Wei Nian enter the room and later saw Jiang Si leave. Su Xun had been watching the direction of the northern courtyard ever since and noticed right away when something went wrong.
She grabbed her sword and rushed to Jiang Si’s side, then picked her up and ran toward the northern courtyard.
Though usually quick on her feet, the intensity of Jiang Si’s scent began to affect her. By the time they neared the room, Su Xun could no longer carry her and had to ask the servants to help.
She then sent someone to call for Lan Shao.
Su Xun stayed by the door, heart pounding, and only relaxed when Lan Shao arrived.
“What did you give the Marquis? Why is she—”
“Are you accusing me again, General Su?”
“Of course not.”
“Then move.”
Lan Shao had run the entire way. Her urgency in response to Jiang Si’s condition was no less than Su Xun’s, but her expression remained composed.
That was what always confused Su Xun, making her think Lan Shao didn’t care about Jiang Si.
But there were things she couldn’t say out loud.
“Where is the Marquis?”
“Inside.”
Su Xun’s expression was strained. She knew she shouldn’t be questioning her like this, but pride held her back from softening her tone.
Fortunately, Lan Shao knew her well. Before stepping into the room, she patted Su Xun on the shoulder.
“Ah Xun, I thought by now you would’ve learned to control that temper of yours.”
“I…”
Su Xun’s voice lost its strength. She didn’t know how to explain her reaction. Lan Shao gave her a faint smile.
“You always forget how to stay calm when it comes to the Marquis.”
Su Xun looked away, embarrassed, and gave a small nod before stepping aside.
Inside the room, Lan Shao immediately spotted Jiang Si curled up on the floor in pain.
She clicked her tongue, clearly displeased, and helped Jiang Si sit upright against the wall.
She wasn’t as strong as Su Xun. Carrying Jiang Si to the bed was beyond her, so she just sat on the floor with her.
“Marquis, wake up.”
Her voice was soft at first. Jiang Si didn’t react.
Lan Shao raised her hand and gave her a firm pat on the cheek.
“Jiang Si, get up.”
Jiang Si had already been semi-conscious. The slap jolted her awake, and she blinked in confusion, unable to tell where she was.
When she finally realized the person in front of her was Lan Shao, she shrank back a little.
“You… why are you here?”
Lan Shao sat up straight and interrupted her.
“I should be here.”
“Now listen to me and don’t interrupt.”
She paused, waiting for Jiang Si to respond.
Jiang Si glanced at her, saw how serious she looked, and gave a small nod.
“I just checked on the Princess. Her condition is stable for now, but in another twelve hours, the episode will return. And it will be worse than before.”
“I asked the Princess. There really are two kinds of pheromones in your body.”
“Did you know that?”
Jiang Si shook her head and answered honestly. “No, I didn’t.”
“Then which scent are you aware of?”
“Amber.”
“I thought so. The other one is likely a nearly colorless and scentless type.”
Lan Shao paused briefly to let her words settle before continuing.
“This second scent may seem faint, but it is actually very unpleasant. Whether a Qianyuan or a Kunze encounters it, the reaction is the same. It smells bad and is aggressively overwhelming.”
She gave Jiang Si another moment to absorb that, then continued.
“I was the one by your side when you first differentiated. That was the scent you released back then.”
“Afterward, every year there would be a brief appearance of the amber scent. Each time it happened, you would fall into a deep sleep for three days. When you woke up, the unpleasant scent would return.”
“Others may not have noticed, but I did. I even studied your pheromones closely.”
“Of the two, one likely does not belong to you. I do not know why.”
“The amber scent appears rarely, but it has the power to ease the Princess’s condition. The other one worsens it and speeds up the effects of the poison.”
“Before you returned to Lingshang City, I had already told the Princess everything. Your pheromones could save her, though there would be risks.”
“She chose to take that risk. Fortunately, I was able to find a way to counter the danger in time.”
“Marquis, things may become difficult. Are you willing to go through with this for the Princess?”
Jiang Si remained quiet, listening closely. Lan Shao did not speak unnecessarily, so when she did, it meant something.
When the explanation ended, Jiang Si felt her thoughts drifting elsewhere.
Everything Lan Shao had said was focused on helping Mowan Ci. But what about her?
She stayed silent for a moment, thinking it through, then looked up and asked seriously, “If I do this, what do I get out of it?”
“There is a small chance your pheromones could stabilize.”
“But I cannot say which scent will remain.”
“So you are helping the Princess in order to help me?”
Lan Shao remembered the first time she discovered Jiang Si’s condition. She had proposed developing a treatment to normalize her pheromones.
But Jiang Si had rejected her coldly, more distant than ever. After that, Lan Shao had stepped away from the Marquis’s residence. Apart from official medical visits, she said nothing more.
This recent journey to the capital had changed something. Perhaps now, the words she had held back could finally be said.
Lan Shao looked into Jiang Si’s eyes. They were clear and serious, filled with genuine curiosity.
“I may be a physician, but I am also a soldier under your command. My loyalty is to you, Marquis.”
“In the past, when you refused to listen, I stopped speaking. But now that we are here, at this point…”
“You can just say it,” Jiang Si urged, not wanting a long explanation.
Lan Shao nodded slightly and spoke directly.
“With your condition, you were not capable of marking any Kunze.”
“A Qianyuan and a Kunze should be drawn to each other. But your scent was entirely repelling. It had no bonding power. All it caused was discomfort and aggression.”
“But this time is different. Your scent and the Princess’s are compatible.”
“I left that pill with you to confirm it. If your scent had still been the colorless, unpleasant one, both you and the Princess would have had to wait for another treatment. Everything would have stopped until I found a better solution.”
Lan Shao’s voice grew more passionate.
“But we are fortunate. You still have a chance to change this.”
“The Princess is your cure.”
“And for her, you are the same.”
Those last few words echoed in Jiang Si’s mind over and over until the meaning finally became clear.
So, the original Jiang Si had likely been a Qianyuan who had lost her natural ability.
She was dysfunctional.
But in Mowan Ci’s presence, something could change.
She stared ahead, stunned. Then she smiled slowly, like something inside her had just woken up.
She had returned.
