Transmigrated as the Doomed Scumbag Alpha of the Eldest Princess (GL , ABO) - Chapter 7
By the time the people chasing the horse reached them, Jiang Si had already helped Mowan Ci down.
There was no time to ask if Mowan Ci was all right.
Nor was there time to think about how she had managed to make such a smooth, instinctive move in that critical moment. Before she could gather her thoughts, the group of people dropped to their knees in front of her and Mowan Ci, one after another.
She felt a headache coming on. Why were people always kneeling?
“My Lord, please forgive us. Your Highness, please forgive us.”
“This beast just gave birth to a foal. It has gone a bit mad and accidentally startled you both.”
Startled was probably too strong a word. It had just happened a bit too suddenly.
Jiang Si raised her hand slightly, signaling them to rise. Then she dismounted with ease and carefully examined the horse.
It was not young anymore. It lacked the spirit of the reddish-brown horse from earlier, but it was undeniably beautiful. Its glossy black coat made Jiang Si rather fond of it.
She stepped closer slowly, which clearly frightened the men.
This horse had been raised in the stables since it was young, but it always had a terrible temper. No one had ever managed to tame it.
Not even the Marquis of Jiajing.
So when Jiang Si approached, one of the men who had been kneeling hesitated for a long time before finally getting up to stop her.
“My Lord, this horse is known to go wild. Please don’t risk yourself.”
Jiang Si was not concerned. But she was not sure how Mowan Ci felt about it, so she did not speak right away and looked toward her instead.
Only then did she notice that Mowan Ci was wearing the same ruqun she had worn in the Southern Courtyard the other day. The flowing silk accentuated her graceful figure. Her hair was slightly messy from the earlier panic, which only made her more eye-catching.
Her cheeks were flushed from fright, adding a quiet and unexpected charm.
The man who had just spoken was staring at her in a daze.
Jiang Si cleared her throat softly. She really could not stand the look in his eyes.
Even after she looked him in the eye, he still had not fully snapped out of it. Then he suddenly dropped to his knees in panic and bowed his head to the ground.
“My Lord, please spare me.”
Jiang Si was not the only one who noticed what had happened.
Mowan Ci saw it. So did Zhi Miao, Su Xun, and Ye Chan.
Mowan Ci’s expression remained calm. Zhi Miao was furious. Su Xun stood still. As for Ye Chan…
Ye Chan was a woman of action. She walked straight over to the man and yanked him to his feet.
The Princess was not only noble by birth, but now also considered part of the Jiajing Marquis’s household. As a Qianyuan, how could Ye Chan tolerate her Kunze being stared at like that?
Ye Chan thought she understood Jiang Si. But over the past two days, she had started to feel unsure.
After seeing this, she thought perhaps she had been right after all.
“My Lord, I will take this man away.”
Jiang Si did not object. She did not particularly care about Mowan Ci, but the way that man had looked at her had been disgusting.
Still, where exactly would Ye Chan take him?
Would he be forced into harsher labor or handed over to the soldiers?
What had been said yesterday had truly frightened her. It seemed like anyone who was disliked could be casually punished or sent away.
She called out, “Just punish him a little. That will be enough.”
It was true that his behavior was inappropriate, and Jiang Si had no intention of being soft-hearted. But she also could not be as ruthless as the others.
After she spoke, both Ye Chan and Zhi Miao looked visibly confused and unhappy.
It seemed Jiang Si still did not fully understand how this world worked.
She thought for a moment and then called Su Xun over.
“You take him.”
She trusted that Su Xun would understand her, at least a little.
Sure enough, Su Xun gave her a meaningful look and nodded.
But that look was a little difficult to read.
It was not directed at her. Not at Mowan Ci. Not at Zhi Miao either.
It was at Ye Chan.
For a brief moment, Ye Chan’s face showed a hint of displeasure.
She quickly covered it up and turned her attention to the horse.
She took a few steps forward, which made the already agitated horse even more uneasy.
Clearly, it did not like Ye Chan.
Even Jiang Si, who knew nothing about horses, could tell when she had been riding it earlier that the horse had been doing its best to stay balanced. It did not seem like the mad animal everyone described.
Ye Chan moved roughly. She grabbed the reins and was about to swing onto the horse.
But the horse was terrified. It refused to let her mount.
“Wait. Let me,” Jiang Si called out.
Ye Chan froze mid-motion, turned her body slightly, and released the reins.
She was almost under the horse’s belly, yet stood firmly as she handed the reins to Jiang Si.
Jiang Si did not get on the horse right away. She looked over toward Mowan Ci.
Even now, she had not asked how Mowan Ci was.
She was not truly the Marquis of Jiajing. She had no real intention of making Mowan Ci suffer.
That was why she was so afraid Mowan Ci might think all of this had been intentional.
“Your Highness, are you all, right? Were you hurt?”
Her voice was warm and polite, full of genuine concern.
But instead of softening, Mowan Ci furrowed her brow.
Although Mowan Ci had just been frightened, not once had she frowned.
But now, with just one concerned question from Jiang Si, her brows furrowed?
Jiang Si could not understand. All she could do was act in the way she thought was right.
“Shall I have the imperial physician take a look at Your Highness?” she asked cautiously.
Mowan Ci frowned even more deeply.
Jiang Si sensed something was wrong. Had she gone too far?
At that moment, Zhi Miao, who stood beside Mowan Ci, spoke up in her place.
“Her Highness has a personal female physician. There is no need to trouble you, my Lord.”
Jiang Si suddenly understood.
She began to see why Zhi Miao would end up the way she did.
Although every word she spoke was on behalf of the princess, it always felt like a veiled rebuke.
“Very well. I shall not disturb you any further,” Jiang Si replied calmly.
She had a relatively good temper, but not too much of it.
Some would say she was carefree, while others might say she was selfish.
To her, as long as she was happy and at peace, that was enough.
She had asked after the princess because she thought it was the right thing to do. She was speaking to Zhi Miao now because it felt like the right moment to say something.
She had been here for two days. On the first day, she had not understood the situation. On the second day, she had tried to figure things out, and now she had ended up at the stables, causing all this trouble.
She suspected the original story’s stable scene was very different from what was happening now.
But what did that matter?
She did not share the original host’s ambitions. So maybe she did not need to be overly cautious.
The edict had been accepted. The princess had arrived.
From now on, she just wanted to live her life peacefully.
Jiang Si had even considered the idea of going her separate way from the princess.
But since the original host had gone through so much effort to get her here, if she simply sent Mowan Ci away, the consequences might not be pleasant.
It was better to act as if nothing had happened.
She would try her best to adjust and fit in.
While Mowan Ci did not need a physician, Jiang Si herself certainly did.
Her neck had been aching faintly since yesterday, and she had no knowledge of medicine. The best she could do was have a physician take a look.
But just as she asked Su Xun to find a physician for her, the black horse nudged her from behind.
She turned around to see its dark, shining eyes blinking at her.
The longer she looked, the more familiar it felt. It was as if she had seen something like this before.
This horse was smaller than the reddish-brown one from earlier.
People called it a mad horse because it truly was unstable. Even Su Xun had become wary of it.
Jiang Si’s injured foot had not fully healed, and she had strained it again earlier. If she had to run, she would definitely not be quick enough.
Su Xun stepped forward, trying to shield her.
But Jiang Si did not allow it.
Su Xun stopped and explained.
“My Lord, you received this horse as a child, but not long after you brought it back, it started going mad.”
Jiang Si was just about to respond when Su Xun continued.
“Yes, it’s the same horse that once angered you. Since then, it’s been kept here for breeding.”
“The foal it just gave birth to is of excellent quality. Would you like to take a look?”
This time, the horse trainer also chimed in. Jiang Si glanced at him, then looked back at the horse.
It anxiously pawed at the ground and neighed softly.
“You want me to see it?” she asked.
Mowan Ci, who had been about to leave, caught a glimpse of Jiang Si speaking to the horse.
Her feelings became complicated.
She had a terrible impression of Jiang Si and believed every word of the rumors she had heard.
But watching her interact so gently with the horse began to shake that belief.
Then, as Jiang Si turned to look at her, Mowan Ci found herself momentarily stunned.
“Your Highness, the weather is very cold. Shall I have someone escort you back?” Jiang Si asked.
“There is no need. I will return on my own,” Mowan Ci replied in a calm and distant voice.
Jiang Si smiled faintly, nodded, and then walked toward the stables.
She had offered not out of concern, but as a polite way of encouraging Mowan Ci to leave.
As long as the princess was nearby, Jiang Si felt a constant pressure. She had no desire to engage with her too deeply in such an awkward and unclear situation.
To Jiang Si, Mowan Ci could just be the elegant figurehead of the Marquis’s residence.
The two women walked in opposite directions, each with her own thoughts.
Mowan Ci could not confirm anything she had imagined. So what did the dream really mean?
Ever since the Marquis of Jiajing had made the absurd proposal to take her as a concubine, Mowan Ci had been plagued by strange dreams.
After seeing Jiang Si a few days ago, those dreams had started becoming clearer.
She and Jiang Si had been the main characters, and the bridal sedan she had seen at the gate had eventually entered the Marquis’s estate.
That night, Mowan Ci had not slept well, because Jiang Si had barged in during the middle of the night.
And now, today, she had pulled her along to the stables.
She had expected humiliation.
But this visit to the stables had gone very differently from what she imagined.
Still, none of it could be confirmed. Mowan Ci could only put it aside for now.
After all, entering the Marquis’s residence had never been her true goal.
