Glass shattered, the scent of roses mingling with the dripping bl00d.
Amidst the swirling desert sands, a bulky, antiquated aircraft pierced the clouds. To the Alphas’ astonishment, it accelerated relentlessly, cleaving the gale in two.
They instinctively assumed Zhu Yu had abandoned the Princess to flee alone. Yet the room was empty, save for a bloodstained cloak.
“Pursue!” Grey Wolf’s expression shifted rapidly, hardening into grim determination. Zhu Yu could escape, but she would never take the Princess with her!
Their equipment outstripped Zhu Yu’s by decades. How could they allow this inferior Alpha to snatch their prey?
Silver-white aircraft streaked through the sky in formation, their family crests—once painted over—momentarily visible under the sunlight’s glare.
Zhu Yu jammed the throttle to its limit, the blue sky and white clouds blurring past her wings. Her gaze remained fixed forward, unyielding. Her head slammed against the cockpit, only to be stopped by the Princess’s helmet pressing against her chin. The searing pain, however, kept her conscious, preventing her from blacking out.
Though she had studied aerospace engineering, she never imagined she would one day take to the skies herself.
Zhu Yu found herself thinking, at this utterly inappropriate moment, of her driving instructor’s constant refrain: “Do you think you’re flying a plane?” Well, she was actually flying one now. She couldn’t help but feel a slightly hysterical urge to laugh.
Her mouth was filled with the metallic tang of bl00d. The ancient system finally booted up, and a mechanical female voice slowly announced:
Welcome back. May the Glory of the Empire be with you.
The robotic tone was strangely comforting, reminiscent of the announcements before English listening comprehension exercises. As memories of the original owner’s death began to resurface, Zhu Yu urgently barked:
“Engage Auto-Cruise!”
“Activate Second-Tier Protection!”
“Turn on the Air Conditioner!”
“Activate everything! Shake off whoever’s behind us!”
After a few seconds of lag, the electronic voice replied flatly:
Acknowledged. All presets have been activated.
The first system to activate was surprisingly the audio system. White mist billowed from the grid-like iron mesh as a soaring, three-dimensional saxophone rendition of “Going Home” filled the cramped cockpit.
With the aircraft now flying steadily, Zhu Yu finally had a free hand to check on Bai Shuzhou. The ice in her mouth had completely melted. Zhu Yu directed the air conditioner at herself, but even the cold air couldn’t dispel the burning heat radiating from her bones, as a faint rose fragrance seeped into her marrow.
The woman in Zhu Yu’s arms was burning hot, as if she had just been pulled from a hot spring, dripping wet. She bit her lip, determined to suppress the broken moans that threatened to escape, but the unbearable pain had clearly exceeded her threshold. Unconsciously, she pressed against Zhu Yu’s chest, nuzzling against her.
Deep green vines coiled around Zhu Yu’s waist and wrists, blooming into vibrant roses at her pulsing veins with a soft “pop,” their petals shimmering with golden light.
Zhu Yu helplessly wiped away Bai Shuzhou’s tears, again and again. The tears seemed endless, soaking her collar. Low sobs trickled into the wound on Zhu Yu’s arm—so salty, so painful.
How can I ease her pain?
Zhu Yu tentatively embraced Bai Shuzhou, gently patting her trembling spine. This was how her mother had comforted her whenever she felt unwell as a child.
“Mmm…!”
Bai Shuzhou’s lashes lowered, and she suddenly bit down hard on Zhu Yu, all her pent-up resentment and anguish channeled through her teeth, sinking into Zhu Yu’s snow-white skin, as if determined to share the pain.
Zhu Yu hissed, but her movements didn’t falter. She tightened her hold on Bai Shuzhou, whispering, “It’s okay, it’s okay. We’re safe now. No one will hurt you again. I swear.”
A soft golden light flowed over the lines of Zhu Yu’s palm, brightening slightly with each movement, as if encouraged by the touch of skin. The clear, gentle light flowed between their bodies, impossibly light and ethereal.
The unique scent of a young woman surrounded them, soft as clouds. The cool evening breeze eased the burning pain, and Bai Shuzhou’s pale blue eyes lifted, peering through the dim light at Zhu Yu’s sharp jawline.
It took her a moment to pull herself out of her muddled thoughts. Her legs, numb from pain, gradually regained a sliver of sensation as a warm current flowed through her limbs. Bai Shuzhou spoke in disbelief, “You have a healing Ability…?”
“Ah, I didn’t know,” Zhu Yu replied, releasing her hand. The golden light began to fade, dispersing into the air like fireflies, dimming into nothingness.
She remembered that Abilities were catalyzed by Mental Power, and only a tiny fraction of high-ranking individuals could awaken them. The Imperial Royal Academy of Sciences had a department dedicated to studying Ability users, capturing them for experimentation.
But she was a transmigrator, essentially a soul inhabiting another’s body—a phenomenon far more outlandish than Abilities. If discovered, wouldn’t she be dissected on the spot?
Zhu Yu shivered and asked uncertainly, “Does this make you feel any better?”
The woman’s icy, pale blue eyes met hers again, her gaze becoming complex. Her bitten lip parted and closed, and she finally nodded with extreme restraint.
“That’s wonderful,” Zhu Yu said. The gland at the back of her neck burned, and her throat trembled. Afraid to embrace Bai Shuzhou again, she gripped her hand, desperately trying to channel her energy into her.
But the light flickered weakly, showing no sign of growing stronger no matter how hard Zhu Yu tried. Instead, she squeezed Bai Shuzhou’s hand so tightly it turned red, the thin skin looking like it might tear at any moment.
Historical records showed that only A-Rank and above had the potential to develop Abilities. Zhu Yu, with her D-Rank, was just a piece of trash, second-to-last in the hierarchy.
Years ago, when Bai Shuzhou, whose Mental Power was a staggering 3S, chose her, it caused a massive uproar. The nobles indignantly accused her of desecrating superior genes, yet the Life Tree declared their compatibility to be a perfect 100%.
Could that be the reason?
Bai Shuzhou’s expression turned inscrutable. She murmured, “Zhu Yu, come here.”
The girl obediently approached, flinching slightly as Bai Shuzhou’s wrist drew near. The scent of roses washed over Zhu Yu, and she closed her eyes.
She was terrified of another slap; even the softest hand could leave a stinging pain on her cheek.
But instead, the woman tore off her mask.
Zhu Yu’s eyes widened in surprise, meeting Bai Shuzhou’s pale blue gaze. Their breaths mingled, warm against their faces, as the metallic tang of bl00d spread between their lips.
Bai Shuzhou’s wrist circled Zhu Yu’s neck, holding her firmly in place, leaving no room for retreat.
A golden aura surged wildly, and Zhu Yu felt them tumble together into a rosebush, every petal soft against her skin.
She surrendered completely to the woman’s demands, the kiss deepening from a gentle stream to a raging ocean. Slender fingers tangled in her hair as Bai Shuzhou pressed closer, intensifying the kiss.
Silver-white strands intertwined with black hair, and Zhu Yu felt like a scholar whose life force was being drained by a fox spirit. Her vision blurred, doubling images dancing before her eyes.
But Bai Shuzhou was so beautiful, so fragile… How could she be a fox spirit? She was her wife.
It was Zhu Yu’s duty to protect her.
But why was she crying?
Her oxygen-deprived brain couldn’t think clearly. Zhu Yu numbly reached out, wanting to wipe away Bai Shuzhou’s sorrow and pain.
Her mental domain lay completely open, defenseless, softly filling the broken gaps, deepening and spreading, sticky and ambiguous.
The light reflected in Bai Shuzhou’s eyes, nourishing the vines until they grew wildly. Clusters of roses swayed, crushed in the burning embrace, their crystalline sap flowing freely.
Exhausting her Mental Power would mean death.
Bai Shuzhou’s slender fingers trembled violently. This was Zhu Yu’s debt to her! All her suffering stemmed from her. How dare she feign tenderness and innocence, gazing at her like this?
The girl’s fingers were far from soft, calloused beyond her years, scarred and worn. They cautiously touched her cheek, wiping away the tears.
“Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. It’ll be okay. I’ll definitely get you home safely.”
Zhu Yu pulled back slightly, cupping Bai Shuzhou’s face. Though she had never been in love, she knew that kisses should bring happiness.
Bitter tears wet the corners of her lips. She rubbed them away with her fingertip, the light dancing across the delicate wounds on her lips.
“If you don’t like it, we don’t have to do this. We’ll figure out another way. It’ll be okay.”
“Don’t be afraid…”
In that instant, Zhu Yu could no longer hold back her tears.
A cold, mechanical voice cut through the air:Â Apologies for the interruption, but I must inform you that we have been locked onto by Morosen tracking missiles. Do you wish to initiate a communication request with the enemy?
Auto-Cruise is insufficient to evade missiles of this precision. Manual operation is strongly advised.
Zhu Yu snapped out of her daze, her eyes widening in shock. Missiles?
The radar display showed the pursuing Alpha fleet closing in, their wing-mounted missiles glinting coldly in the sunlight.
Have they gone mad? The Princess is still here!
The current Emperor doted on his only sister. Zhu Yu couldn’t believe they would dare open fire; harming a member of the imperial family was a capital offense.
“Request communication!”
555, the request has been rejected.
Zhu Yu blinked in surprise. What does that even mean? Is this System trying to be cute?
444…
Zhu Yu:Â ?!
“What’s this countdown for?”
Missiles.
“Then why are you so calm? You’ll be destroyed too! Think of something, quick!”
Please switch to manual operation and initiate an Interstellar Jump. I believe in you. You are humanity’s strongest…
A chaotic burst of electromagnetic static filled the air.
Zhu Yu instinctively glanced at Bai Shuzhou. She had no desire to be praised by this broken System at such a moment, especially with the lingering warmth of Bai Shuzhou’s lips still on hers. Facing death, even the fragrance of roses seemed to fade.
I’m humanity’s strongest trash, a brittle-skinned college student whose manual transmission car license hasn’t even passed the probationary period. I can’t even drive on the highway without supervision.
Pulling herself free from the bone-deep fragrance, Zhu Yu realized they were now flying at high speed. She felt dizzy and her legs trembled.
But Bai Shuzhou was also watching her, her pale blue eyes shimmering with tears.
333, 222—
Zhu Yu gritted her teeth. “Initiate Interstellar Jump!”
Interstellar Jump was a coordinate-based leap through space. The fact that this ancient machine could even attempt it was astonishing. With death looming on all sides, Zhu Yu had no choice but to gamble.
Anything was better than waiting to die in place.
Zhu Yu gripped the controls, her Mental Power merging with the System. A searing pain shot up her spine as her vision expanded, shifting from the cockpit to the vastness of space itself!
Her body began to feel uncontrollable, her senses fading into nothingness. The missiles behind them slowed to a crawl as space collapsed and reformed around them.
The eerie electronic voice echoed once more:
Welcome back. May the Glory of the Empire be with you.
The flickering flames, swirling stars, and those icy hands.
They were being dragged downward by the darkness.
More surreal than a dream, yet Zhu Yu felt no fear.
Bai Shuzhou held her hand tightly, their fingers intertwined, the lines on their palms overlapping for a fleeting moment. This time, she wasn’t alone.
Like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole, the world around them twisted into bizarre shapes, diverging from reality.
In a daze, Zhu Yu felt as if she had been falling forever, as if this endless descent had led her to the world where Bai Shuzhou existed.
If they continued to sink, would they return to their original world?
A place of safety, warmth, where hot meals always awaited her.
But what about Bai Shuzhou?
Mom, can I bring her home?
Mom…?
