- Chapter 12 - Surrounded by Pheromones
Wang Fang rushed over with the contracts in hand, only to find Qi Siyu pacing back and forth outside the hospital room.
“President Qi, I’ve got the contracts.” Wang Fang was panting heavily—she’d made a point to jog the last few steps after arriving at the hospital, just to show how hard she was working on what Qi Siyu had asked of her.
“Mhm. Wang Fang, I do value you a lot,” Qi Siyu said casually as she took the briefcase. “But Yan Feiran’s current situation… doesn’t look so good, does it?”
Yan Feiran was the trending celebrity Wang Fang had recently taken on—a former idol turned actress with a loyal fan base and strong earning potential. She was one of the cash cows of Qi Siyu’s company.
At once, sweat broke out on Wang Fang’s forehead. “President Qi, don’t worry. It’s nothing serious—I’ll handle it quickly.”
“You’d better.” With the pressure delivered, Qi Siyu turned and headed back into the hospital room, showing no sign that it had actually been her who tipped off the gossip accounts to start with.
In the original novel, Yan Feiran was also a villain—though one who showed up much later in the plot. She was good at keeping up appearances in the early stages. Qi Siyu had used her just to give Wang Fang a little motivation.
Wang Fang’s smile disappeared the moment she turned away—her face darkened.
Inside the room, the TV was still playing, but it had already moved on from Gu Qing’s work to reruns from Season One of Carefree Vacation.
Each episode was cut from a 72-hour livestream down to a two-hour highlight reel—fast-paced and entertaining.
Gu Qing was extremely professional. Even though this wasn’t a show she’d signed up for, and even though it was essentially a conflict-driven reality show, she still made sure to do her homework in advance.
Qi Siyu quietly closed the door behind her, but the lock still made an audible click.
Gu Qing’s gaze shifted toward her, and Qi Siyu tensed up a little. “I brought the contracts.”
“Let me see,” Gu Qing’s voice was so cold it sent a shiver down Qi Siyu’s spine.
Qi Siyu didn’t dare delay and hurriedly handed over the contracts, even thoughtfully flipping the pages for her.
After going through them all, even someone as composed as Gu Qing nearly lost her cool. Her expression turned grim. “Is this everything?”
Two reality shows, six awful dramas, and four commercials—all with outrageously high breach penalties. This was clearly Wang Fang getting revenge for Gu Qing refusing to take on these jobs in the first place.
“That’s everything. Really!” Qi Siyu shook her head frantically, looking pitiful.
Gu Qing stared at the final page, where her forged signature and fingerprint were clearly marked. The fingerprint must have been pressed on while she was unconscious—either by Qi Siyu or Wang Fang.
“Who forged the signature?”
“I don’t know,” Qi Siyu replied, shaking her head. “But I’ll find out.”
“Take these away.” Gu Qing looked exhausted, weariness etched between her brows.
“Of course.” Qi Siyu quickly stuffed the contracts back into the briefcase and summoned her assistant to send them to her office.
After that, she didn’t feel like going back in just yet. She found a spot to sit down and started watching Carefree Vacation Season One on her own.
About an hour later, her phone rang.
“Where are you?” Gu Xiaoling’s voice was sharp and angry.
“Uh… what happened?” Qi Siyu had wandered around aimlessly and wasn’t even sure where she was now.
“Come back now.” Gu Xiaoling hung up immediately, sounding extremely annoyed to even be making the call.
Qi Siyu: …
Did something happen to Gu Qing?
With that thought, she dashed back at full speed.
Inside the room, a doctor was drawing bl00d from Gu Qing.
She looked relatively fine, but her expression was tightly controlled—like she was enduring something. Her smoky gray eyes were clouded with mist, making it hard to discern what emotion lay beneath.
“What’s going on?” Qi Siyu asked, breathless.
Gu Xiaoling muttered sarcastically, “President Qi, you’re way too out of shape.”
Qi Siyu: …
The doctor cleared his throat. “The pheromone concentration in Miss Gu’s bloodstream is dropping rapidly. I recommend you release more pheromones around her to stabilize the levels.”
That sentence hit Qi Siyu like a rollercoaster drop. For a second, she thought she was going to have to mark Gu Qing again today.
“Why is that happening?” she asked, curious. Surely this wasn’t because she was too weak, right?
“Possibly due to Miss Gu’s weakened physical condition. We’ll need further tests to determine the exact cause,” the doctor replied.
“Got it.” Qi Siyu nodded. Oh right—she hadn’t even finished giving Gu Qing all her YuanKang powder. She’d feed her the rest later.
Too many things had happened today. Rubbing her temples, Qi Siyu sat down next to Gu Qing and began releasing her pheromones.
To be honest, she had secretly practiced controlling her pheromones many times—but she still wasn’t very good at it.
This time, she overdid it.
A thick wave of pheromones surged toward Gu Qing, flooding every pore of her body.
It felt like being submerged in a viscous fluid—Gu Qing could hardly breathe and instinctively parted her lips.
Her delicate lips, elegantly shaped with a hint of aloofness, now glowed with a soft, moist sheen under the light, appearing almost translucent.
Her tongue, flushed pink from the pheromone stimulation, trembled slightly—making her look oddly endearing.
Qi Siyu clearly heard the sound of her own throat gulping. She actually wanted to kiss her—deeply, possessively.
Before Gu Xiaoling could chase her away, Qi Siyu had already fled to the sofa like she was escaping a crime scene.
Gu Xiaoling: …
“Sister Gu, how do you feel?” Gu Xiaoling asked.
Gu Qing had already composed herself and nodded calmly. “I’m fine.”
Though Qi Siyu had moved away, her pheromones still lingered.
Surrounded by the dense lemon-candy scent, Gu Qing’s agitated cravings finally began to ease.
After being marked, Omegas develop a dependency on their Alpha’s comfort—Gu Qing was no exception.
But she was very good at restraint. She’d never ask Qi Siyu for that kind of comfort.
That night, Gu Xiaoling stubbornly refused to leave. The trending topic earlier made her completely lose faith in Qi Siyu.
“Xiaoling, go sleep in the next room,” Gu Qing said.
Gu Xiaoling pouted and stared at her in defiance.
“I know what I’m doing,” Gu Qing added softly. “Be good.”
Gu Qing could coax people too?
Qi Siyu glared jealously at Gu Xiaoling. That girl was never good—always glaring at everyone.
“Fine. Sister Gu, if anything happens, just shout. My ears are always on alert!” Gu Xiaoling shot Qi Siyu one last death glare and stomped out.
It felt like each step was stomping on Qi Siyu’s heart.
Qi Siyu didn’t know why Gu Qing still insisted on sending Gu Xiaoling away, but at least she was relieved.
She couldn’t miss the nightly ointment routine for Gu Qing’s leg.
The lights went out, and the entire room was plunged into darkness.
Qi Siyu cautiously reached for Gu Qing’s hand and held it, holding her breath as she waited for judgment.
When there was no response, she finally exhaled—her rapid breathing sounded especially loud in the silent room.
Gu Qing: …
Midnight arrived. Qi Siyu had saved up two lucky draw attempts.
She tiptoed out of bed and expertly applied the ointment.
After that, she immediately fell asleep. The whole day had worn her out.
Not long after, Gu Qing opened her eyes.
Slowly turning on her side, she scraped a bit of the ointment from her leg—applied earlier by Qi Siyu—and carefully placed it into a plastic bag she’d prepared.
She would take it for testing in the morning.
