- Chapter 15 - Smooth Progression
When Qi Siyu returned to the hospital room, she was already carrying the scent of incense. It was dark outside.
As soon as she opened the door, Gu Xiaoling raised a finger to her lips and whispered, “Shh, Sister Gu is sleeping.”
Qi Siyu immediately slowed her movements, removed her coat, and, under Gu Xiaoling’s watchful gaze, quietly approached the bed.
She pulled out the talisman she had gotten earlier and gently tucked it under Gu Qing’s IV needle.
“May there be no worries, may peace always reign.”
“What is that?” Gu Qing, not knowing when she had woken up, stared steadily at Qi Siyu.
“Ah!” Qi Siyu jumped in surprise, gasping for breath. “Nothing, just a talisman. I went to Xuanle Temple this afternoon and got it while I was there.”
“When did you start believing in these things?” Gu Qing asked casually.
“Well, it’s not about belief; it’s more like a kind of wish,” Qi Siyu chuckled nervously. “If you don’t like it, I can take it away.”
Perhaps because the scent of incense on Qi Siyu reminded her of her grandmother, Gu Qing didn’t refuse. “Leave it.”
Qi Siyu beamed brightly. “It will protect you.”
Gu Qing responded indifferently with a soft “Mm,” not really believing in gods or spiritual protection. She believed only in herself.
While Gu Qing didn’t believe, Gao Zhonghai did, especially after seeing something strange in the mirror when he went to the bathroom late at night. Could that dense black stubble on his head really be growing there?
In the past, Gao Zhonghai had trusted methods that involved more tangible results, like Minoxidil and even hair transplants. But it always felt like a curse; nothing could stay on his head for more than a month, except for wigs.
After several failed hair transplants, he turned to seeking out mysticism and offering prayers, though none of it had ever worked.
Could Xuanle Temple’s hair-growth talisman finally have worked?
Excited and unable to sleep, Gao Zhonghai rushed to the hospital for a check-up. After confirming it wasn’t just a hallucination, he immediately reached out to Xuanle Temple.
After much searching, his call ended up reaching Qi Siyu.
At that time, Qi Siyu had just finished secretly applying medicine to Gu Qing’s leg and was pondering how to communicate with her about checking her leg tomorrow, while also revealing the existence of the ointment.
While lost in thought, her phone suddenly rang, startling both her and the seemingly asleep Gu Qing.
Without even looking at the caller ID, Qi Siyu hung up immediately. When she saw that Gu Qing’s breathing remained steady and she didn’t show any signs of waking, she breathed a sigh of relief.
She tiptoed out of the room, stepped into the hallway, and called her aunt back.
“Hello, Aunt, why are you calling so late?” Qi Siyu thought, Could it be Gao Zhonghai?
Her aunt confirmed her suspicion. “What did you add to the talisman water? The person who was with you today came to the temple, wanting more hair-growth talismans.”
“Hair-growth ones,” Qi Siyu felt a little numb. No wonder Gao Zhonghai was bald—staying up all night, of course he’d be bald! “Aunt, just tell him that the raw materials for the hair-growth talisman include a
special formula developed by my grandfather’s side.”
“Got it.”
After hanging up, Qi Siyu didn’t return to the hospital room.
As expected, not even two minutes had passed when Gao Zhonghai’s call came through.
Qi Siyu turned her phone to silent, slipped it into her pocket, and went back to sleep. What’s the rush for a business discussion at this hour? I’ll keep him waiting—after all, it’s a seller’s market now.
The next morning, after waking up, Qi Siyu checked her phone. After making a call that went unanswered, Gao Zhonghai sent an apology message via WeChat, saying he had been too anxious and asking Qi Siyu to return his call whenever convenient.
Qi Siyu smiled smugly. Everything’s under control.
Turning to her side, she looked at Gu Qing’s face and the bandage on it. She thought to herself, Once I gather more of the recovery powder and gland repair liquid, I can extract the facial restoration medication for her.
Everything will be fine.
After quietly admiring Gu Qing’s profile for a moment, Qi Siyu got up to wash up. She then made plans for an early tea with Gao Zhonghai, ready to fight for her own future happiness!
The next day, Qi Siyu successfully invested ten million yuan, becoming one of the sponsors for the “Carefree Vacation” show. She also managed to get herself into the production crew as Gu Qing’s “personal caretaker.” At the same time, Gao Zhonghai promised that he wouldn’t set excessive tasks for Gu Qing or make her a target for other guests.
She would also, depending on the situation, arrange some small tasks for Gu Qing to clear up her negative rumors.
On her side, Qi Siyu had made arrangements with the Gao family to open a dedicated research group for Gao Zhonghai to help preserve his hair.
Typically, one hair-growth pill would solve most baldness problems. If that didn’t work, two pills would do the trick. Qi Siyu was more than happy to make such an arrangement.
The Gao family already had a small team for drug development, and the hair-growth medicine was managed by Qi Siyu’s mother. She planned to send some samples to the researchers to test out.
Before, she had thought the hair-growth pills were useless. Now, they smelled pretty good!
The early tea was delicious, so Qi Siyu packed some of the dishes she liked and also brought Gu Qing a portion of vegetable and shredded pork porridge, guessing that she was likely able to handle semi-solid foods by now.
When she returned to the hospital room, it was just after 9 a.m. The nurse and Gu Xiaoling were inside, and it seemed like they had gotten into a disagreement.
Before leaving, Qi Siyu had called the nurse over. “What’s going on?”
Gu Xiaoling glared at Qi Siyu. “She won’t let Sister Gu eat.”
The nurse, looking aggrieved, explained, “This lady wanted to feed Gu Qing noodles, but she’s only a few days post-surgery. It’s not suitable.”
“Alright, double the pay, and you can go back,” Qi Siyu said.
The nurse happily left.
Gu Xiaoling’s anger flared. “The doctor said yesterday that Sister Gu could try some noodles!”
“Let the doctor recheck,” Qi Siyu said, glad to have a reason to get Gu Qing checked again.
Gu Qing smiled faintly. “Is another check really necessary?”
By now, Qi Siyu should know her condition better than anyone.
Qi Siyu nodded. “A check would put everyone’s mind at ease.”
“Fine,” Gu Qing agreed. She also wanted to know; she felt that her leg was almost fully recovered.
It was the fourth day since Qi Siyu started treating her with the medication.
As expected, when the doctor presented the test report, they were amazed. “President Qi, what did you give Gu Qing? Her recovery is so fast, it’s beyond medical limits.”
Qi Siyu smiled mysteriously. “It’s a secret.”
“Oh, and tell Gu Qing it’s because I had you use the Gao family’s secret medicine.”
The doctor: …
“Okay.”
The doctor obediently relayed Qi Siyu’s words. “We used the Gao family’s ancestral medicine, so her recovery is very quick. However, this medicine is rare, with many of its ingredients already extinct. To avoid attracting unwanted attention, we hope that Gu Qing can pretend her recovery is normal and use a wheelchair for a while longer.”
“Got it. When can I fully recover?” Gu Qing asked.
The doctor sweated nervously. Oh no, President Qi didn’t say anything about this. “It depends on your body’s condition.”
Gu Qing smiled slightly. The doctor’s reaction confirmed her suspicions. This medicine was probably unrelated to the hospital. “Thank you.”
Qi Siyu, what exactly are you up to?
