Transmigrated as the Scumbag Alpha of a Cold Movie Queen - Chapter 18
Late at night, an hour had passed since lights-out.
Gu Qing’s breathing was soft and steady—she appeared to be sound asleep.
Qi Siyu, on the other hand, lay wide-eyed, tossing and turning.
Earlier during the day, she had boldly fantasized about how hugging could earn her more lottery chances. She’d been all fiery conviction and dramatic flair. But now, in the dead of night, she found herself completely unable to move her arm.
Sleeping while hugging… that’s way too intimate, right?!
Of course, that was just a minor mental hurdle. Qi Siyu could overcome it. What truly worried her was the possibility that Gu Qing might wake up and catch her. That would be a total disaster.
Even the original host—who’d tried everything to claim Gu Qing, even coercing her into marriage—had never gone so far as to sneakily cuddle her at night.
【System, what if I just told her about your existence?】 Qi Siyu reached out mentally.
The system responded after running an analysis:
【Based on our current predictive model, the probability that the heroine would believe you is 1%.】
【Plus, you have to explain why your task is to stay physically close to her, which leads to the core truth behind this world. If she starts exhibiting self-destructive tendencies, we’re all done for.】
Qi Siyu imagined herself going through endless suffering and trauma, only to have someone suddenly tell her, “You’re just a character in a book; this world isn’t real.” It wasn’t hard to imagine someone having an existential crisis and wanting to destroy everything.
She shuddered. Telling Gu Qing was clearly off the table.
Which meant—she had no choice but to act like a rogue. Qi Siyu took a deep breath and sat up.
Okay, let’s start by applying the ointment to Gu Qing’s leg. That way I won’t have to get up again later.
By the time she finished, it was past midnight.
Qi Siyu yawned, realizing she couldn’t put it off any longer.
Steeling herself, she lay down on her side, slowly edging toward Gu Qing, and gently draped an arm over her waist.
Then she quickly opened the system to check the progress bar for hugging—and saw nothing.
【System, is this a hug?!】
The system pulled up a diagram titled Proper Bedtime Hugging Posture, complete with highlighted areas:
【Neck-to-neck / full-body contact — either will do.】
Qi Siyu’s mouth twitched. She looked at the space between her and Gu Qing—big enough for another person to fit—and reluctantly scooted closer.
Finally, the lottery progress bar began to move.
She hadn’t found time to use her spins during the day, so by morning, she should have over thirty draws. She planned to get one bottle of YuanKang powder and two tubes of gland repair serum.
With her rewards mentally mapped out, Qi Siyu gradually drifted off to sleep.
“Thud—”
Qi Siyu jolted awake. A masked and bespectacled figure was sneaking toward them.
The intruder had clearly startled themselves with the noise. With night vision goggles on, they saw Qi Siyu’s eyes suddenly open.
Realizing they’d been caught, the figure gritted their teeth and hurled the liquid in their hand toward the bed.
Qi Siyu grabbed the blanket and flung it upward, blocking the splash. She threw herself over Gu Qing, shielding her completely.
A harsh sizzling sound filled the room—the unmistakable hiss of chemical corrosion. Qi Siyu’s expression shifted instantly.
“Help!” she shouted, flipping out of bed while grabbing a bottle from the nightstand and hurling it at the attacker’s head.
CRASH! Glass shattered. The attacker collapsed, unconscious.
Only Qi Siyu’s heavy breathing remained in the room.
Gu Qing had already woken up from the commotion. Listening to Qi Siyu pant, a strange ache stirred in her chest.
She reached toward the nightstand and turned on the light.
Qi Siyu squinted toward her. “You’re not hurt, right?”
Gu Qing shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“Good.” Qi Siyu’s body was numb, but she fumbled for her phone and called the police.
At that moment, Gu Xiaoling, the doctor, nurses, and two bodyguards all burst into the room.
Qi Siyu had only stationed two guards on this floor, not expecting a second attack.
Gu Xiaoling rushed to Gu Qing’s side, frantic. “Sister Gu, are you okay? What kind of hospital is this?! That was sulfuric acid!”
The attacker was dressed in a nurse’s uniform. Gu Xiaoling’s reaction was understandable.
The hospital staff looked baffled. “We don’t know who she is, but we’ll find out how she got in.”
Even the police were shocked to return to the same hospital room twice in one day.
Qi Siyu asked Gu Xiaoling to stay with Gu Qing for the night while she went with the officers to the station.
Apparently, once the news hit the hot search list and Gu Qing’s hospital location leaked, swarms of people began showing up. Security had already intercepted many. This particular attacker turned out to be an anti-fan—wealthy enough to bribe the night nurse into letting her in, planning to disfigure Gu Qing with sulfuric acid.
Clearly, the hospital was no longer safe. Gu Qing’s injuries were healing anyway—might as well go home.
By the time Qi Siyu returned from the police station, it was 4 a.m.
She sat in the car outside the hospital, opened the system, and let out a howl of despair.
The hug had started at 12:10 a.m. The black-clad attacker had appeared at 2:08 a.m.—just two minutes short!
If they had arrived just two minutes later, she would’ve earned four lottery chances!
Qi Siyu took a deep breath and messaged her lawyer: Seek the maximum penalty. That psycho anti-fan must face serious consequences.
When she got back to the room, the lights were still on. Gu Xiaoling was half-asleep with a cup of coffee in hand, and though she sprang up at the noise, her eyes were still bleary.
Gu Qing, on the other hand, was wide awake.
“You didn’t sleep?” Qi Siyu asked.
“Not sleepy,” Gu Qing replied.
Qi Siyu was momentarily speechless. She’d thought Gu Qing was staying up because she was worried about her. Right. As if.
“Gu Xiaoling, go sleep in the room next door,” Qi Siyu said, sitting down on her folding bed.
“No! I’m staying with Sister Gu! Who knows if someone else might show up?” Gu Xiaoling was wide awake now.
Qi Siyu glanced at the hole in the floor where the sulfuric acid had burned through. “You? Even if someone did come, you wouldn’t be able to protect her. I’ve arranged for the entire floor to be locked down—no one’s getting in, not even a fly.”
Gu Xiaoling huffed in protest, unable to argue. “Sister Gu, let me stay with you, please?”
“You should go sleep,” Gu Qing said, glancing at the dark circles under her eyes.
“Fine…” Gu Xiaoling pouted and shuffled off.
Qi Siyu locked the door behind her. “I’m turning off the light.”
Gu Qing gave a soft “Mm,” and the room returned to darkness.
She couldn’t sleep. Her mind kept replaying that moment—Qi Siyu throwing off the blanket to shield her.
It had been too dark to see clearly at the time.
But her heartbeat had been pounding.
Suddenly, an arm wrapped around her waist. A warm body pressed gently against her back.
And in the dark, Gu Qing thought she could smell the faint, sweet scent of lemon candy.
