- Chapter 28 - No Improper Intentions
Everyone was stunned and quickly crowded around again.
Sun Yingying didn’t question whether the machine was rigged—she just kept congratulating Gu Qing on her amazing luck.
This time, it was Jia Junjie who raised doubts. “Can I try a round?”
The host had anticipated this. “Sure, you’re all welcome to try.”
She handed out one game token to each person, and everyone accepted it.
Jia Junjie shoved her way to the front, jammed her token into the machine, and slammed the button hard with a loud clack.
A cheerful jingle played again. Jia Junjie bent over to check the coin chute—nothing came out. The screen flashed: “-66.”
“That means the show will deduct 66 Leisure Coins from your account,” the host said with a smile.
Jia Junjie, clearly displeased, kicked the machine—an incredibly rude gesture.
Everyone watching her livestream saw this clearly and immediately began criticizing her in the comments, questioning why the show had invited someone with such poor behavior.
The rest of the guests tried one by one. Most ended up with negative numbers. Sun Yingying was the unluckiest—she got “-999.”
“Thank goodness it was just a free trial!” Sun Yingying’s heart nearly stopped from fright. If that deduction had been real, she’d have lost it.
Only Bai Ming’an struck gold—her machine spit out over 600 coins, even more than Gu Qing had earned.
Bai Ming’an’s eyes turned red with envy. Damn it, why hadn’t this counted?
“How can we play the slot machine again?” she asked eagerly.
“Miss Bai,” the host chuckled, “it’s a penalty, remember? Only guests who are mandatorily punished and spin the punishment wheel can access the machine. We didn’t expect you and Miss Gu to be so lucky—negative numbers are the norm.”
Bai Ming’an didn’t respond. She just stared longingly at the basket containing his 653 coins.
Watching her reddened eyes, Qi Siyu felt incredibly pleased with herself. She’d found the perfect way to funnel coins to Gu Qing—while sabotaging the others and subtly educating the public on the dangers of gambling. Genius.
When the group left the game room, everyone’s thoughts were scattered and restless.
Gu Qing’s balance was still -229, but since the final tally wouldn’t happen until the next evening, she was free to spend as she pleased in the meantime.
Qi Siyu pushed Gu Qing’s wheelchair into the suite behind the staff.
The rest of the guests continued discussing room choices. Whether for budget reasons or to make their streams more entertaining, no one opted for a single room.
Yan Xuan and Bai Ziyun—both Alphas—shared a double room, paying 30 coins each per night.
Jia Junjie and Yu Shanmei, though both Betas, couldn’t stand each other.
So Jia Junjie invited Lu Hui and Kou Huaiping to room with her—three “ordinary” participants sharing one room felt more fitting.
Yu Shanmei ended up with Bai Ming’an and Bai Ziyun in the other triple room.
Each guest in a triple room had to pay 20 coins per night.
Once settled in, everyone started skimming the available tasks in the mission hall. No one even thought about dinner.
Meanwhile, the staff left the suite, leaving only Gu Qing and Qi Siyu behind.
Qi Siyu hesitated. She wanted to explain the whole “521” thing, but the livestream was still running. The words circled in her throat before she awkwardly changed the subject. “Are you hungry?”
She hoped Gu Qing would take the 521 thing as a small coincidence and not read too much into it.
Gu Qing shook her head. “Not hungry.”
“You still need to eat,” Qi Siyu said firmly. “Patients need regular meals and good nutrition to recover properly.”
Gu Qing: …
She gave Qi Siyu a calm glance that still made the other woman shiver, but Qi Siyu stood her ground. “You must eat!”
“This steamed egg with vegetables and shrimp looks good. And a small cup of oat milk. I’ll just get a donkey meat sandwich,” she muttered as she placed the order.
After ordering, she glanced at the livestream comments and smugly said to Gu Qing, “Look, your fans all say I’m doing the right thing.”
“Go ask the crew for another phone,” Gu Qing said casually, trying to change the subject. Sharing one phone wasn’t convenient.
“Oh.” Qi Siyu huffed quietly, then ran out to find the host.
The host had a private room—one without cameras. She handed over a phone without hesitation. “As for the cost of the phone…”
Qi Siyu gave her a cold look.
The host cleared her throat. “Ahem, it’s already included in the daily fee charged to Miss Gu. But the phone doesn’t come with a charger.”
“May as well rob us outright,” Qi Siyu muttered.
She checked the phone—it was standard, had internet access, and most apps were functional. She’d just have to be careful not to use it on camera.
Switching to silent mode, she logged into WeChat. A flood of messages popped up.
There were plenty of trending hashtags related to Carefree Vacation, and Qi Siyu herself had the honor of appearing in one.
The younger generation of her original host’s family had noticed, and word spread fast. Soon, everyone in the family knew she was on a variety show… working as an assistant to some small-time celeb.
Qi Siyu rubbed her temples. The original novel hadn’t gone into much detail about the Qi family, and their ties weren’t especially close, so she’d always ignored that part.
She scanned the messages and replied only to the host body’s father, sending a short, in-character message: “I know what I’m doing.”
The reply came quickly: “Good.”
Qi Siyu breathed a sigh of relief, then opened Meng Changyao’s chat to review the latest gossip and public opinion around Gu Qing.
She made good use of her boss-level skills—promised Meng some rewards, told her to keep it up, and spun a few tales.
Wang Fang also sent her several careful, nervously worded messages. She was worried Qi Siyu might change her stance now that Gu Qing was on the rise—and drag her down in retaliation.
Qi Siyu smirked coldly and replied, “Just do your job.”
Wang Fang relaxed—if she got a reply, things weren’t that bad. Besides, she had only done what Qi Siyu had told her to do. Worst case, mutual destruction.
After finishing her messages, Qi Siyu put the phone away and went to pick up dinner.
She returned to the suite and knocked on Gu Qing’s bedroom door. “Dinner’s here. What are you doing?”
“Livestreaming,” Gu Qing said flatly.
Qi Siyu looked at the bullet comments. “Streaming your nap? Get up and eat, then you can sleep.”
They ate silently. Afterward, Qi Siyu washed the dishes and returned the utensils.
Back in the suite, she opened the livestream and saw the chat.
“Oh, so everyone’s curious about me now?” she said theatrically.
Gu Qing shot her a side-eye.
“Ahem.” Qi Siyu quickly straightened her expression. “I know there have been a lot of speculation about me joining the show, but I swear—it has nothing to do with romance. I’m not here to pursue Miss Gu. I swear, I don’t have a single improper thought about her.”
Gu Qing: Then what was the 521?
Qi Siyu didn’t notice the fleeting glint in Gu Qing’s eyes. She continued her nonsense with a serious face:
“There are some internal company issues… and after what happened before, people weren’t comfortable letting me go off on my own. After all, Miss Gu is the face of Heyang Entertainment.”
That line, combined with the earlier exposé from Gu Qing’s former agent, instantly sent fans into a frenzy.
Internal power struggle!!!
Some fans even warned Qi Siyu not to spill too much or it might affect the company’s stock price.
Qi Siyu gave a sweet smile. “Don’t worry, just a small disagreement. My bad for being too lax before. It’ll be sorted out by the end of the month.”
She sat on the edge of Gu Qing’s bed, chatting with her fans in the livestream, painting big promises. Whenever a hater popped up, she’d clap back without hesitation.
Clearly, she had no plans to take on any actual tasks to earn money.
They chatted for over an hour. When the clock hit nine, Gu Qing said she was tired. Qi Siyu helped her with her evening routine, turned off the lights, and left the room.
The livestream froze on the final frame: Gu Qing asleep in the darkness.
Qi Siyu returned to her room, applied gland repair serum, and then silently crept back into Gu Qing’s room.
“I’m here,” she whispered.
Gu Qing didn’t say a word, but instinctively adjusted her position.
Qi Siyu wrapped her arms around her, bit gently into her nape, and released her pheromones.
And in Gu Qing’s mind, one thought echoed—
“No improper intentions,” huh?
