- Chapter 32 - Can’t Stay Away
First of all, Gu Qing was a cold, career-focused woman—the quintessential independent female lead.
Secondly, Gu Qing would never flirt with her.
So clearly, Gu Qing was just naturally flirty—flirty without even knowing it!
Qi Siyu’s mind buzzed endlessly, her thoughts stuck on Gu Qing’s casually uttered “Thinking about me?” Her cheeks flushed bright red.
After returning the food trays, she went straight to the bathroom to wash her face.
Cool water splashed across her cheeks, gradually calming her racing heartbeat.
She couldn’t exactly tell Gu Qing, “You’re too attractive—tone it down or I’m going to fall for you.”
All she could do was repeatedly remind herself not to fall too deep. So hard, Qi Siyu sighed at her reflection in the mirror.
She needed to help Gu Qing recover, resolve all the issues left behind by the original host, and then…
Then what—become close girlfriends?
Qi Siyu nearly laughed at her past self. With how things were going now, how was she supposed to stay emotionally detached while remaining so close to Gu Qing? How could she not develop feelings, or crave something more?
【System, when can I finally get some distance from Gu Qing?】 Qi Siyu asked.
【Ah… Host, that’s a long journey ahead.】 The system gave her a metric:
【If you want to move out of the same city, you’ll need to complete 50,000 draws.】
【How many?! 50,000?!】 Qi Siyu was speechless.
【I’m never escaping Gu Qing in this lifetime.】
Right now, thanks to holding hands, she could earn around a dozen draws per day—15 on average.
That meant… it would take ten years.
【Come on, Host, where there’s effort, there’s hope! Nothing’s impossible!】 The system tried to encourage her.
【And when you reach 200,000 draws, you’ll have gathered enough energy to revive and gain complete freedom!】
Qi Siyu: …
She was 26 now. Forty years later, she’d be 66.
Suddenly, the future didn’t seem so bright anymore.
【Host! When you revive, it’ll be like you’re reborn the moment you died—it’s basically living twice!】 The system tried to cheer her up again.
【Sigh.】 Qi Siyu exhaled.
【How about this? Host, sometimes you need a break too. I’ll add some rewards to the prize pool—items that let you temporarily leave Gu Qing’s side. Sound good?】 Since motivational speeches weren’t working, the system switched to offering real perks.
【Fine. While you’re at it, upgrade my system backpack. There’s no way it can hold enough rewards for 200,000 draws.】 Qi Siyu finally revealed her real intent. She wasn’t truly in despair—just grumbling for effect.
She saw the system waver and decided to fish for some benefits.
【Got it. Expanding to 1,000 slots for now—we’ll add more if needed.】 The system agreed readily and even threw in a little future promise to keep her motivated.
Qi Siyu rubbed her face, determination reignited.
She hadn’t made any money for Gu Qing today yet—still plenty to do this afternoon.
At 1 p.m., the app released a special announcement: a limited batch of blind box missions was now live. Before accepting, participants wouldn’t know the mission details or the reward—only that there would be a punishment for failure.
Qi Siyu told Gu Qing to accept five of them.
Four missions were time-consuming, with minimal pay. But one—ah, one offered a whopping 999 Leisure coins.
Clearly rigged from behind the scenes.
This particular mission involved searching five locations in the town for hidden “treasures” left by the production team—within a three-hour time limit.
To unfamiliar guests, it would be quite a challenge. But for Qi Siyu, who knew all the locations, it was a walk in the park.
Two other “lucky” guests would also receive the same mission. But they were destined to fail.
To keep them from getting too jealous of Gu Qing, Qi Siyu arranged for the production team to release another blind box mission with a reward of 666 Leisure coins—this one easy and manageable.
Five people would receive it, and scramble to complete it. The four who failed would naturally resent the one person who succeeded.
Qi Siyu was very pleased. She truly was pulling out all the stops for Gu Qing.
“What are you thinking about?” Gu Qing’s voice rang out suddenly.
Qi Siyu, who had been giggling at her phone, snapped back to reality, replying at lightning speed, “The mission! Just thinking about the mission!”
Definitely not thinking about you~
Gu Qing gave her a cool glance. “Let’s go.”
“Alright, just a second.” Qi Siyu quickly placed an order from the show’s online store—sun umbrella, blanket, portable water bottle, some snacks—and pushed Gu Qing over to pick them up.
She slung the backpack over the wheelchair’s handles. “All set!”
Gu Qing commented, “Feels like a field trip.”
“Hehe,” Qi Siyu laughed.
Gu Qing couldn’t help but recall Qi Siyu’s earlier comment about treating this variety show like a vacation. She really was living by her words.
If this person had nothing to do with the old Qi Siyu, Gu Qing thought, maybe they could have been friends.
Strolling leisurely through the streets with Gu Qing, bathed in warm but gentle sunlight and a pleasant breeze—it was blissfully relaxing.
“Let’s grab some bubble tea!” Qi Siyu suggested.
Gu Qing looked visibly puzzled.
“I’ll get you a fresh milk drink, no sugar. I’ll drink the bubble tea,” Qi Siyu explained as she headed for the store. “This weather is too nice not to have bubble tea!”
“Have you ever had it before? Celebrities like you must be strict with their diets, right?” Qi Siyu chuckled. “Your fans would totally say your confused expression is showing!”
Qi Siyu suddenly moved in front of Gu Qing, leaning in close. “Yep, just as I thought!”
But the next second, she regretted it. Why get so close to Gu Qing?!
Do I enjoy being dazzled by her beauty?
Is my heart not racing fast enough already?!
Her long eyelashes fluttered like fans, and her misty gray eyes, softened by confusion, had lost their usual frost.
Qi Siyu gulped and quickly returned to the wheelchair’s handles, pushing Gu Qing toward the bubble tea shop with haste.
Gu Qing, meanwhile, looked dazed. Her mind was stuck on the smiling look in Qi Siyu’s eyes—so full of joy and laughter.
Bright as the night stars, yet as warm as sunshine.
Gu Qing pressed her fingernail into her palm. No matter what kind of person Qi Siyu is, it has nothing to do with me.
Once the three months are up, she’d get the divorce papers and contract termination—and leave.
We walk different paths.
With that thought, her unsettled heart calmed, and her expression returned to its usual coolness.
A sweet, milky aroma suddenly drifted by.
Gu Qing looked down. The straw was already placed at her lips.
“Sugar-free red bean milk—it’s fine to drink,” Qi Siyu said, sipping her own thick taro bubble tea.
“Thanks.” Gu Qing took the cup and had a sip.
It tasted… like plain water. She didn’t feel anything in particular. Qi Siyu sneakily pursed her lips—No appreciation for the finer things in life.
With their drinks in hand, Qi Siyu continued pushing Gu Qing leisurely along the street.
She chewed as she walked, finishing quickly, and tossed the empty cup into a trash bin with a flourish.
“Bingo~ Nailed it!” she declared dramatically, though sadly, Gu Qing was facing away and didn’t see.
“Hm? Not a fan of red bean milk?” Qi Siyu asked. She had finished hers long ago, but Gu Qing had barely taken a second sip.
“Not thirsty,” Gu Qing replied.
“Hahaha, bubble tea only makes you thirstier,” Qi Siyu laughed.
“You thirsty?” Gu Qing held up her cup and tilted her head back to glance at Qi Siyu. “If so, go ahead.”
Qi Siyu licked her lips, avoiding eye contact. Her eyes landed on the straw—shimmering slightly in the sunlight, coated with Gu Qing’s lip balm.
Her heart pounded wildly.
Aaaahhh, how is Gu Qing this effortlessly flirty?!
She didn’t dare take the cup. They were live streaming! She and Gu Qing were supposed to be AO (ambiguous friendship)—how could they share a straw?
Her mind was in chaos. Surely Gu Qing knew how suggestive that would look on camera.
Qi Siyu quickly pulled out her own water bottle and gulped it down. “Plain water is best for quenching thirst!”
Which, unfortunately, left her needing the bathroom.
They hurried to a nearby mall. Outside the restroom, Qi Siyu told her, “Wait here, I’ll be right back.”
Gu Qing responded with a soft “Mm.”
But moments after Qi Siyu entered, someone approached Gu Qing.
“Miss Gu, I can’t believe you’re really here! I’m so lucky!” Yan Xuan was visibly excited. She had seen Gu Qing singing on the street earlier. Though she’d only sung two songs, her skills in both vocals and arrangement were obvious.
Gu Qing was trending now, too—being seen with her meant guaranteed exposure.
Yan Xuan glanced around. Not seeing Qi Siyu anywhere, she made a split-second decision, pushing Gu Qing’s wheelchair forward.
“Miss Gu, I need a teammate for a PK mission! Only ten minutes left—I couldn’t find anyone else. Please help me!”
Meanwhile, in the restroom, Qi Siyu had just stepped out of the stall when the system alert rang in her ears:
【Warning: Distance from female lead is about to exceed 1,500 meters. Level 1 electric shock punishment imminent. Please take caution.】
Qi Siyu: !
Gu Qing would never leave on her own. Something must’ve happened!
Without hesitation, Qi Siyu sprinted out the door.
She didn’t care about the electric shock.
She was worried about Gu Qing.
