- Chapter 13 - Eating Together for the First Time
That morning, Chi Lengzhao and Shen Zhixi were discharged from the hospital and returned to the villa.
Fangfang and Uncle Nian were already waiting at the door.
Since arriving in this world, this was Chi Lengzhao’s third time at the villa—but it was the first time she took a serious look around.
She wandered through the entire property: upstairs and down, the rooftop terrace, the basement, the garden—and checked which areas were fitted with security cameras.
Fangfang followed closely behind, baffled. Miss never even took a few extra steps around the house before. But now, after a hospital stay, she’s acting like a visitor seeing the place for the first time—wandering around all excited?
Meanwhile, Shen Zhixi instructed Hua Zi to bring her things into the bedroom.
The master bedroom was spacious, with an especially large walk-in closet designed in two separate sections. Hua Zi neatly placed Shen Zhixi’s clothing into her side of the wardrobe. Then she turned and noticed that Chi Lengzhao’s side was completely empty—not a single item of clothing.
All those flashy, eccentric, over-the-top outfits had vanished.
Shocked, Hua Zi pointed to the empty wardrobe. “Miss, look at that… what happened?”
Shen Zhixi had also paused upon entering the bedroom. The decor was now soft and elegant, entirely unlike Chi Lengzhao’s usual taste—she’d always preferred bold, vibrant, dramatic colors. Even the bed had been changed, and that ridiculous “Hundred Sons and Thousand Grandsons” table was gone.
She remembered clearly that on their wedding day, the room looked nothing like this. It must have all been redone while they were in the hospital.
Then Hua Zi called out from the bathroom, voice tinged with disbelief.
“Miss, the bathroom’s changed too. The mermaid-shaped tub is gone, and the sea star tiles on the floor are missing!”
Housekeeper Zhou stepped in. “Young Madam, everything’s been redecorated per Miss Chi’s instructions. The bathroom and shower were completely remodeled. Do you like the new style?”
The room now featured a clean, minimalist color palette, but still retained understated luxury in the finer details. Shen Zhixi nodded slightly.
“The previous clothing in the wardrobe has all been cleared out. Miss said she plans to shop for a completely new wardrobe—so that side is temporarily empty.”
Shen Zhixi asked, “Why did your Miss suddenly get rid of all her old clothes?”
“She said they were too loud—an eyesore. She didn’t like them anymore, so she asked us to get rid of everything.”
An eyesore? Didn’t like them?
For a moment, Shen Zhixi was stunned. Wasn’t that exactly her style before?
“If there’s anything else you’re not satisfied with, Young Madam, I’ll have it changed immediately.”
“No need. This is fine,” Shen Zhixi replied.
Housekeeper Zhou left, and Hua Zi resumed putting things away. As she worked, she couldn’t help but gush, “Miss, see how much Miss Chi cares for you? While we were in the hospital, she even had Housekeeper Zhou ask me what your room looked like back at the Shen family—she said she didn’t want you to feel out of place after marriage.”
A soft breeze carried the scent of white roses from the vase by the window, gently filling the room.
Shen Zhixi reached out and brushed the delicate petals. Her gaze fell, long lashes hiding the expression in her eyes.
She didn’t want it to feel unfamiliar?
Everything here was different from the last life. The atmosphere was warm, subtle, and serene—not ostentatious. Just the kind of space she liked.
For a moment, she wasn’t sure if this home felt unfamiliar… or familiar.
Lunch was the first time the two of them had shared a meal together since getting married.
Shen Zhixi sat at the long dining table in the seat she had always used in her previous life—left of the head position.
That was the spot Chi Lengzhao had once insisted she take.
Chi Lengzhao came out of the study and saw Shen Zhixi already seated. She was sitting upright, hair flowing down her back in soft waves, her posture refined and elegant—exactly how a well-bred lady should look.
“I’m sorry I’m late,” Chi Lengzhao said quickly. “I was tidying up the study.”
In truth, the study used to be anything but scholarly. It was practically a gaming den.
Multiple monitors had been set up, along with a flashy mechanical keyboard, a glowing custom-built PC, and a pair of ridiculously bright headphones.
There was a desktop computer on the desk too. Chi Lengzhao had tried to access it out of curiosity but couldn’t guess the password. In the end, she gave up and simply removed the hard drive, locking it in a drawer.
The drawer also held a random collection of lighters, cigarette boxes, and piles of anime merchandise. Chi Lengzhao didn’t hesitate—she threw it all out.
But when she opened the bottom drawer, she was genuinely shocked.
Inside were several… inappropriate comic books, clearly not suitable for children. The covers featured impossibly curvy girls in outfits that were somehow both revealing and innocent.
Chi Lengzhao casually picked up one of the comics and flipped through it. The page she landed on happened to show two girls in a rather intimate scene—an image that immediately caught her attention.
She coughed awkwardly, quickly glanced toward the door like a guilty thief, and then shoved the comic back into the drawer.
A vivid “coming-of-age manual” like this can’t just be tossed out and corrupt children. Better I keep it and let it corrupt just me.
Next to the comic books were a few USB drives. Chi Lengzhao didn’t even need to check—she could already guess what kind of “content” they held.
In the end, she called in Housekeeper Zhou and instructed, “Pack up all this stuff—keyboards, monitors, the entire gaming desk—put it all in storage.”
“And the figurines too. Box them up.”
“Yes, Miss,” Housekeeper Zhou replied, stunned. Those figurines were once her Miss’s treasured possessions—she’d throw a fit if anyone even touched them. That’s why she’d always warned Fangfang never to go near those strange little toys when cleaning.
“And have the study deep-cleaned and deodorized—completely smoke-free.”
“Yes, Miss.”
“Everything goes except the desk. That includes the chair.”
That chair, by the way, was a replica of the Iron Throne from a wildly popular TV show.
So much bl00d had been spilled for that seat of power—Chi Lengzhao couldn’t imagine how the original version of herself had managed to sit on it without losing her head. What a cursed thing to keep in your home.
“Bring in a proper bookshelf. One with plenty of drawers—and locks.”
“Yes, Miss.”
Housekeeper Zhou diligently took notes and got to work.
Back at the dining table, Chi Lengzhao pulled out the chair next to Shen Zhixi’s—on her left—and sat down beside her.
Housekeeper Zhou was once again stunned.
Even Shen Zhixi was momentarily surprised.
Chi Lengzhao… wasn’t sitting at the head of the table.
“Xixi, what do you like to eat?” Chi Lengzhao glanced over the table: roast chicken, duck, fish, seafood, and a variety of seasonal vegetables. She had no idea what Shen Zhixi preferred—or what she avoided—so she played it safe and picked up a small piece of broccoli, placing it gently on her plate.
It was the kind of thing almost anyone could eat.
Shen Zhixi frowned slightly, clearly uncomfortable with Chi Lengzhao serving her. But with Housekeeper Zhou and Hua Zi standing nearby, the words “I don’t need you to serve me” got stuck in her throat.
Chi Lengzhao noticed the resistance in her eyes and didn’t press further. She simply smiled and said, “Then just take what you like.”
Uncle Nian’s cooking was excellent—even Chi Lengzhao, who was used to fine dining, had to admit he was a master. She gave him a mental thumbs-up.
The only issue was the atmosphere. It was oppressively quiet.
Shen Zhixi kept her expression cold the entire meal, clearly not in the mood for conversation.
Chi Lengzhao had no choice but to fill the silence herself.
“These golden shrimp balls are amazing. Xixi, want to try one?”
“Thanks, but I don’t like fried food.”
“This mandarin fish has no bones. Do you like fish?”
“Thanks, but I don’t like sweet-and-sour dishes.”
“This beef tenderloin is cooked just right—want a bite?”
“Thanks, I’ve had enough.”
Housekeeper Zhou: …She’s not even getting angry? Wait—Miss Chi can be… gentle?
Hua Zi: …What’s wrong with Miss? She looks like she’s been forced into this. She’s not giving Miss Chi any face at all.
Shen Zhixi wasn’t sure if Chi Lengzhao was doing this on purpose. She knew perfectly well what she didn’t like—fried food, overly sweet dishes, beef—and yet she offered them one after another, all while putting on a show of concern.
Chi Lengzhao really is a master actress. It’s disgusting.
Still, even though the meal was filled with cold glares and awkward silences, Chi Lengzhao felt like she had learned something valuable:
Shen Zhixi doesn’t eat sweets. Doesn’t eat fried food. Likes vegetables.
Nearly everything she picked for herself was plant-based.
Then it hit her—Her wife used to be a celebrity. Even though she’d stepped back from the spotlight, the habit of strict body management probably ran deep.
As for that body…
Chi Lengzhao couldn’t help sneaking a few glances.
Swan-like neck. Perfect shoulders. Ample chest. Slim waist. Long, straight legs.
Truly flawless.
Her figure was incredibly well maintained.
Noticing the heat in her gaze, Shen Zhixi’s brow twitched almost imperceptibly. A cold sneer rose in her heart.
Chi Lengzhao is still Chi Lengzhao.
Still obsessed with lust. Still scheming after my body, huh?
