- Chapter 3 - Let’s get a divorce
“Miss, are you cold?” Housekeeper Zhou asked gently. “Should I turn up the air conditioning for you?”
She noticed that the young miss was trembling slightly under the blanket.
Chi Lengzhao poked her head out and said, “I’d like a cup of warm water. Not hot—just warm.”
Housekeeper Zhou quickly brought her a cup.
Chi Lengzhao took it, drank it down in a few gulps, then handed the cup back with a soft, “Thank you.”
It was a simple thank-you, but it made Housekeeper Zhou’s expression change. She looked at Chi Lengzhao with concern. “Miss, are you alright? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
The original Chi Lengzhao had been unstable, extreme, and often aggressive—always acting superior and speaking with authority. Ever since she hit her teenage years, she’d been stuck in a rebellious phase and almost never showed any kindness to others.
When it came to people or problems, she lived by one rule: if something went wrong, it was always someone else’s fault—never hers.
Aside from her father, she had never once said the words “I’m sorry” to anyone.
Chi Lengzhao frowned slightly. “Housekeeper Zhou, why are you looking at me like that? I’m fine. I’m not sick. You don’t have to worry.”
Housekeeper Zhou pressed her lips together and looked down without replying. Then they both heard a loud crunch. She looked up and saw Chi Lengzhao had grabbed a red apple from the cabinet and taken a big bite.
Housekeeper Zhou’s eyes widened. “Miss, the apple hasn’t been peeled!”
“It’s fine. I prefer it like this.”
The housekeeper said nothing but kept sneaking glances at her as she continued eating the apple with surprising enthusiasm.
Something was definitely off. Very off.
The young miss had never eaten apples with the skin on before.
While chewing the apple, Chi Lengzhao scrolled through her phone. Several group chats were showing 99+ unread messages.
She randomly opened one. The first thing she saw was an Omega wearing very little, followed by a flood of explicit photos and videos. Chi Lengzhao ignored them and kept scrolling through the messages.
The active users in the group were probably Alphas.
“This one looks pretty hot!”
“Yeah, I’ve had her.”
“How was it? Was the marking wild?”
…
Further down, the messages got worse—vulgar photos and filthy comments. Disgusted, Chi Lengzhao left the group without hesitation.
Then she opened another group chat.
“Zhao, how was your wedding night? That seaside Omega taste good?”
“What does Shen Zhixi’s scent smell like?”
“Heard it’s strawberry!”
“Bullshit! It’s orange—or sweet cream!”
“Get lost! You think she’s like those cheap Omegas you mess with?”
“Come out and talk, Zhao.”
“Where are you? Still busy marking your wife?”
“Damn, all night? That’s wild!”
Chi Lengzhao glanced at the time. The last message was sent at 3:50 a.m.
There were only four people in the group, including the original Chi Lengzhao—clearly her closest circle of equally awful friends.
She thought for a moment, then decided to respond in their tone, firmly and directly:
“Watch your damn mouths.”
“Shen Zhixi is my wife.”
“Say one more stupid thing and I’ll come after you.”
She had planned to just send one reply—but it felt too good to stop, so she sent all three.
“Housekeeper Zhou, Shen…” Chi Lengzhao paused, unsure how the original her used to address Shen Zhixi. She figured it wouldn’t have been just her full name. So she corrected herself, “Where’s the young madam’s room?”
“She’s in Room 701. Hua Zi is with her.”
Hua Zi was another maid working for the Chi family, a young woman in her early twenties whom Shen Zhixi had brought from her own home.
There was also another girl named Fangfang, probably back at the villa.
“I’ll go see her.”
“Miss, let me help you walk.”
“No need.”
Instead of going straight to Shen Zhixi’s room, Chi Lengzhao went to the restroom first.
After using the toilet, she glanced at herself in the mirror above the sink. Earlier, her face had been covered in bl00d, so she couldn’t see clearly. Now that it had been cleaned off, her original makeup was visible.
She froze.
And then, let out a small gasp. The face staring back at her was enough to make her want to faint.
Heavy smoky eye makeup, pitch-black lipstick, and a pale, almost grayish face. With the bandages wrapped around her head from the injury on the back of her skull, she looked like a zombie who’d just climbed out of a grave.
Yesterday was her wedding day, after all. At the very least, she should’ve looked like a joyful bride. But this hideous, eerie makeup? She looked more like she was auditioning for a zombie film.
Hearing her sudden cry, Housekeeper Zhou rushed into the bathroom. “Miss?”
Chi Lengzhao pointed at her own face. “Housekeeper Zhou, who the hell did this makeup?”
Housekeeper Zhou hesitated, stammering, “You… you did it yourself, Miss. You said this was the trendiest ‘zombie bride’ look of the year, and that on your wedding night, you wanted to outshine everyone else…”
Chi Lengzhao turned around and cursed inwardly, Outshine my ass! I look like the bottom of the barrel—bad luck personified!
“Go get the makeup remover. I need to look presentable.”
A light breeze drifted in through the slightly open window, brushing across the skin with a fresh, comforting coolness.
The air carried a faint scent of osmanthus blossoms—subtle, but pleasant.
Shen Zhixi sat on the hospital bed, her head turned toward the window. She stared at the tree branches that stretched toward the glass, unmoving, lost in thought.
The fever had subsided. The glands at the back of her neck had returned to normal, and her mind was finally clear again.
Knock, knock, knock. Someone was at the door.
Without turning around, Shen Zhixi said calmly, “Come in.”
Chi Lengzhao pushed the door open. The first thing she saw was a slender back. The oversized hospital gown made Shen Zhixi look even more fragile. Her long, wavy hair draped softly down her back, revealing a waist so slim it looked like it could be held in one hand. Her sleeves were rolled up slightly, revealing pale, delicate forearms resting casually on the blanket. The sunlight coming through the window made her skin look like it was glowing.
She looked like a porcelain doll—beautiful, delicate, and in need of protection.
Even just her back was breathtaking.
Chi Lengzhao couldn’t help but admire her. No wonder she’s the heroine of the novel—the number one Omega, chased by countless Alphas.
After a long silence with no movement behind her, Shen Zhixi finally turned her head. For the first time, her calm, deep eyes showed emotion.
Chi Lengzhao saw more than just surprise—there was also disdain and hatred.
“What are you doing here?” Her voice was cold and filled with disgust.
She had a beautiful voice—clear and low. If Chi Lengzhao ignored the hostility in her tone, it was the kind of voice she actually liked.
“I came to see how you’re doing.” Chi Lengzhao took a small step forward. “Are you feeling any better?”
“Don’t come any closer!”
Chi Lengzhao stopped in her tracks and stood still, looking straight at Shen Zhixi, waiting.
Shen Zhixi hadn’t expected her to stop—no shouting, no tantrums, no storming toward her in a rage. Her eyes were calm, even curious, and she seemed… patient, as if she was genuinely waiting to hear what she had to say.
Shen Zhixi sneered inwardly. She’s pretending again.
Chi Lengzhao softened her tone and asked politely, “Are you feeling any better?”
At this moment, she looked completely harmless—gentle, sincere. If Shen Zhixi hadn’t lived through her past life, she might’ve been fooled all over again.
Shen Zhixi closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Her lips were still dry from the fever, but she forced out a few words. “Chi Lengzhao, I have something to say to you.”
“Okay. Go ahead.”
The room fell into silence for a few seconds.
Then Shen Zhixi said, her voice calm and steady, “Let’s get a divorce.”
Chi Lengzhao clearly froze for a moment. But she quickly composed herself. “You really want a divorce?”
Shen Zhixi immediately tensed up, thinking, Here it comes—she’s going to use Meixi to threaten me again!
Her hand gripped the blanket tightly, her knuckles turning white.
This time, no matter what, she wouldn’t let herself be threatened. If something happened to Meixi, she’d survive it. She had before—she would again.
“Chi Lengzhao, marrying you was a mistake. I mean it. I want a divorce.”
Chi Lengzhao was twenty-five. She’d had plenty of Omegas confess to her, but she had never confessed to anyone—never dated, never held hands, never kissed, and definitely never been married.
And now, the moment she arrived in this world, the female lead was asking her for a divorce to her face.
“…I understand how you feel. As for the divorce, I’ll seriously consider it.”
Then, without waiting for a reply, she added quickly, “Rest well. I won’t bother you again,” and walked out the door.
