The orange segments on the plate had been peeled with incredible care. Even the white pith had been meticulously removed.

Shen Zhixi couldn’t help but wonder how Chi Lengzhao knew she liked oranges but hated the stringy white bits.

She had never told her. Not in this life, and not even once in their nearly four-year marriage in the previous life.

Not only had Chi Lengzhao never known, even Hua Zi didn’t know.

Shen Zhixi picked up the perfectly peeled orange and held it under the light, inspecting it from every angle, as if she could see through it somehow.

The segments were plump, glossy, and glowed a deep tangerine color. They looked sweet and tempting.

After a long pause, she gave a cold snort, then tossed the orange straight into the trash.

Meanwhile, Chi Lengzhao had returned to her hospital room and collapsed onto her pillow, mind drifting back to the novel’s plot.

A sapphire necklace?

She didn’t remember that part. Her original character in the book had only been a minor antagonist, so she barely had any scenes. There had never been a mention of any sapphire necklace.

But if Shen Zhixi brought it up so confidently, it must exist.

It was probably valuable, something like the “Heart of the Ocean” from Titanic.

Chi Lengzhao furrowed her brows and took another long sip from her milk tea. Suddenly, she remembered that the book did mention her character once owned a delicate brocade box, hidden in a secret compartment in the basement. The novel never said what was inside, but chances were, that was where the necklace was.

She called out, “Housekeeper Zhou.”

Housekeeper Zhou entered right away. “Miss?”

“Get me discharged tomorrow. I’m going home.”

Housekeeper Zhou looked at the bandages on her head and spoke cautiously. “Miss, the doctor said you need to stay at least five days before removing the dressings. Maybe you should wait a little longer before going home.”

Five days? Chi Lengzhao touched the bandage on her head and nearly forgot that she was still technically a patient. She looked awful like this. Anyone who saw her would instantly know something was wrong.

She nodded. “I’ll go home for a short while tomorrow. Make the arrangements.”

“Yes, Miss. I’ll have the driver ready for you.”

Chi Lengzhao let out a long breath. Tomorrow, she would search the basement. The top priority was finding that secret compartment.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated with a soft buzz.

She glanced at the screen. It was a message from the four-person group chat.

“Damn, Zhao, I heard you ended up in the hospital?”

“Zhao, what happened? You okay?”

“Sh1t, I was just gonna ask if you could bring your wife out tonight.”

“One night and you’re already in the ER? That’s wild. You really went all out!”

Chi Lengzhao now remembered who the other three in the group were.

One was Jiang Han, nicknamed “Deep Meaning.” Her dad was completely uneducated, barely literate, but struck it rich in real estate. Hoping his kids would grow up cultured, he named his daughter “Han,” which meant depth and refinement. Unfortunately, Jiang Han inherited his intelligence but not his luck. She was just as clueless in school as he had been.

Another one was Xue Xingyu, known as “Peach Xue.” The nickname came from her face, which was broad and flat, making her look like a flat peach. Out of the three so-called friends, she was the only one with a hint of a conscience.

Why? Because unlike other rich girls who switched girlfriends as often as outfits, she was always the one being dumped. She wasn’t just unlucky in love. She practically lived in a constant state of post-breakup misery.

The last member of the group was Shi Xin, nicknamed “Three Gold” in the chat. In Chi Lengzhao’s opinion, she was by far the most vicious and despicable of the four.

Many of the terrible things the original Chi Lengzhao had done were instigated by Shi Xin.

She was the one who gave her her first cigarette.
She was the one who first dragged her to a bar to pick up Omegas.
She was the one who taught her how to drug Shen Zhixi.
She was the one who leaked false rumors about Shen Zhixi being involved with other people.
And when the original Chi Lengzhao was finally kicked out of her house and tried to make a comeback, it was Shi Xin who betrayed her.

If the original Chi Lengzhao was a ten on the scumbag scale, Shi Xin was an absolute one hundred.

Chi Lengzhao thought for a moment, then replied to the group chat.

“I’m fine. Thanks for checking in.”

YouNeiHan: “What the hell?! Did you hit your head so hard it made you polite?”

Xue Pantao: “Of course she did. She cracked her brain.” Followed by a laughing emoji.

YouNeiHan: “Since you’re talking again, I’m guessing you’re good to go. Come out tonight, there’s something exciting planned!”

Xue Pantao: “Three Gold said she’s bringing some absolutely stunning Omegas for us to meet!”

Chi Lengzhao: “I’m not going out. You all go ahead and have fun.”

YouNeiHan: “Whoa, something’s seriously off, Ice Queen.”

Ice Queen?

Chi Lengzhao nearly choked on her milk tea.

She had almost forgotten. Her nickname was “Ice Queen.” As awful as she was, she really did have the looks. Tall, with sleek, long black hair, cold and sultry eyes—when she walked into a bar, a lot of Omegas were drawn to her. Many even threw themselves at her.

Xue Pantao: “Zhao, are you still in the hospital? Want us to come visit you?”

Chi Lengzhao thought, Please, no. If the three of you show up, I seriously won’t know how to deal with you.

Chi Lengzhao: “No need. It’s just a small injury. No trouble at all.”

YouNeiHan: “Holy hell. This really isn’t right. You’re being way too polite!”

Xue Pantao: “Exactly! Zhao, why are you acting like a stranger all of a sudden?”

Chi Lengzhao took a deep breath.

Chi Lengzhao: “All of you shut the hell up. I’m trying to rest.”

The group chat went silent for three full seconds.

YouNeiHan: “Yep, that’s still Zhao.”

Xue Pantao: “Then Hanzi and I will come visit you in a couple of days.”

At that moment, the usually silent Three Gold finally spoke.

Three Gold: “Zhao, don’t tell me you’re actually getting soft?”

Chi Lengzhao frowned, her expression darkening.

A second message popped up.

Three Gold: “No wonder they call her Seaside’s Number One Omega. One night and she’s already got you wrapped around her little finger!”

And then a third.

Three Gold: “Don’t tell me you’re too scared to even come out and party now?”

Chi Lengzhao stared at her screen coldly, a sneer forming at the corner of her lips.

Trying to bait me? You think I’m that naive?

Chi Lengzhao: “I have a wife now. Of course I’m going to listen to her.”

YouNeiHan: “What?!”

Xue Pantao: “Huh?!”

Three Gold: “Are you serious?!”

Chi Lengzhao: “I’m a good Alpha and a good Alpha stays by her wife’s side.”
