- Chapter 3 - She Bit Me
The new student was a bit strange.
She wore a face mask in every class.
On Tuesday morning, during the last period before lunch, the students of Class 3 headed to the field with their schoolbags. As they walked downstairs, they noticed that Gu Li was still wearing the same mask she had put on during math class.
The PE teacher, who was tall and slim, clapped his hands to get their attention. He asked everyone to line up by height. After glancing over the group, his eyes quickly landed on Gu Li, who stood out from the rest.
“Hey, student. Do you think the air outside isn’t clean enough?”
Laughter broke out around her.
“Sir, I have a slight pollen allergy,” Gu Li answered calmly.
As a vampire in this story world, considered a type of monster, she could not reveal the truth.
“Alright. If anyone has a health issue, just step aside and let me know. For the rest of you, time to warm up and run laps. Alphas and betas, two laps. Omegas, one lap.”
He blew his whistle.
Gu Li stepped out of the line. Jiang Nian followed behind her.
She lifted her pant leg to show the teacher the bruise on her knee. He nodded and allowed her to rest as well.
Zhang Nan, seeing this, tried to make an excuse to avoid running, but the teacher firmly turned her back. Frustrated, she glanced at Gu Li and Jiang Nian standing just a meter apart. She then unwillingly joined the group and began running.
“Gu Li, thank you for the trousers and for the pads,” Jiang Nian said softly. She wasn’t sure if mentioning pads to a female alpha was too awkward, so she spoke gently and kept her distance.
“You’re welcome, Jiang Nian. Your knee looks bad. Do you want to rest over there?”
Only Gu Li’s eyes were visible above the mask. When she smiled, her eyes curved like little moons. She pointed toward an empty bench and quietly stepped a bit farther away from Jiang Nian.
She didn’t dare underestimate these kinds of instincts. It was better to be cautious.
Jiang Nian noticed the slight movement. She nodded, but her expression dimmed. Limping, she walked over to the bench.
A male alpha was sprinting ahead of the rest, clearly trying to show off. He ran along the outer edge of the track, trying to prove he could go farther and faster than anyone else. He was almost done with his first lap and seemed determined to impress the omegas watching.
“Move out of the way!”
He shouted at Jiang Nian but didn’t slow down. She couldn’t dodge in time. He bumped into her, almost knocking her over. He tripped over her and fell to the ground.
“Disgusting.”
He cursed under his breath as he pressed his scraped hand, then stood up, brushed off the dust, and kept running as if nothing had happened.
More alphas and betas started catching up. They ran past him one by one. Surprisingly, Zhang Nan, who earlier claimed she was too unwell to run, was not far behind. She was ahead of the other omegas by a long distance.
Omegas were only required to run one lap. As she neared the finish line, Zhang Nan slowed down on purpose. She crouched there, both hands on her knees, gasping for breath.
Gu Li looked over at Jiang Nian to check if she was alright. Once she saw there was no serious injury, she turned her attention away.
Zhang Nan staggered over to Gu Li. Just before reaching her, she collapsed as if exhausted. Gu Li instinctively reached out to catch her.
The soft omega body fell into her arms. Zhang Nan’s hand reached up and pulled Gu Li’s mask halfway down. A light scent of Longjing green tea filled Gu Li’s nose.
“I’m sorry, Gu Li. I was just too tired. Thank you.”
Her voice was delicate and gentle, lingering just enough to seem sweet. But in Gu Li’s mind, one phrase surfaced.
What a strong scent of green tea.
Zhang Nan had carefully planned everything. She used the difference in stamina between alphas and omegas to her advantage. By finishing the lap early, she ensured that Gu Li would be the closest alpha nearby. Now, the scent glands on her neck were releasing pheromones, clearly meant to lure Gu Li in.
She was a top-tier omega and was confident she could attract the alpha in front of her.
Gu Li wasn’t wearing the school uniform today. She had on her own clothes. Zhang Nan recognized the brand and knew it was expensive. A beautiful alpha with money was a rare sight in a regular school like this.
She didn’t want to miss this chance.
Gu Li frowned at the scent. The omega in her arms reached up, as if to wrap her arms around Gu Li’s neck and move in closer. Gu Li quickly helped her stand and pushed her away, her tone cold and flat.
“You’re welcome, Zhang Nan. Just be careful next time and know your limits.”
Zhang Nan stood frozen, clearly confused.
What was going on? No reaction at all?
How could an alpha not respond to a high-ranking omega’s pheromones? Was this alpha too weak? Or was she simply not interested?
Gu Li had no such thoughts. She just felt extremely uncomfortable. The scent of green tea now clung to her clothes, especially the mask, and it made her feel irritated. She didn’t yet understand the gender dynamics of this world, but her instincts were clear. She wanted the smell off her immediately.
In the female alpha restroom by the field, Gu Li took off the mask soaked in Zhang Nan’s scent and threw it into the trash. She walked to the sink, turned on the faucet, and splashed cold water on her face again and again. Only after several rounds of rinsing did she stop and sniff her sweatshirt.
What a pain. Even her clothes were stained with the smell. She wished she could go home and change right away.
The sound of the faucet mixed with the noise of the toilet refilling. A strange irritation was growing in her chest for no reason.
Suddenly, there was a loud thud behind her.
She heard the sound of someone panting. Drops of water were still hanging from her nose and lips, but the lingering green tea scent was instantly replaced by something much stronger.
Gu Li’s body tensed. Slowly, she turned around.
Jiang Nian was standing in the doorway, her face completely red.
“What are you doing…”
Why did you come into the alpha restroom?
Gu Li didn’t finish the sentence.
Her mind was slipping.
Jiang Nian’s chest was rising and falling rapidly from running. Her thin summer uniform clung to her body, and her forehead was covered in sweat. In the small bathroom, her scent completely filled the air.
From outside, she could still hear the muffled voices of boys yelling. It sounded like they were looking for someone.
They were looking for the person standing in front of her.
Jiang Nian, flustered and panicked, rushed forward and covered Gu Li’s mouth with her hand.
“Please, Gu Li, please don’t say anything. They’re looking for me.”
Her voice was soft and trembling, filled with fear. There was a hint of tears in her tone.
But Gu Li could not process a single word.
In that moment, her mind was buzzing.
This close contact shattered the thin thread of human restraint she had been clinging to.
Jiang Nian’s scent flooded her senses, and all reason collapsed.
Her red eyes locked onto the girl in front of her. She was no longer a classmate. She was prey.
Her fangs extended on instinct, a faint shiver of excitement coursing through her.
Food.
The pale little hand covering her mouth was bitten down on—hard.
Her sharp teeth pierced the delicate skin. The bl00d that flowed out was the most delicious thing she had ever tasted.
Gu Li gripped Jiang Nian’s right hand tightly. She couldn’t move. When Jiang Nian tried to struggle with her other hand, Gu Li grabbed that one too.
Jiang Nian could barely make a sound. She whimpered helplessly, fear taking over as sharp pain surged through her hand and she felt her bl00d being drained. She tried to resist, struggling as hard as she could.
But it was useless.
The bl00d flowed into Gu Li’s body through her fangs. Every cell in her body trembled with pleasure.
The monster within her had found the perfect source to fill the void.
Greed took over. Her instincts demanded more.
Strength flooded her limbs, and still, she craved more.
It wasn’t enough. It felt suffocating to hold back. She needed more.
She raised her hands and twisted Jiang Nian’s arms behind her back. With the bl00d already fueling her strength, her grip became overpowering. Jiang Nian’s arms were forced behind her waist. Gu Li used her other hand to tilt Jiang Nian’s head to the side, exposing the smooth, pale skin of her neck.
Beneath the porcelain surface, the blue veins were visible.
Gu Li licked the bl00d from her lips. It tasted like the perfect cup of milk tea—sweet, warm, and comforting.
She liked it. She wanted more.
She leaned in slowly, her face drawing closer to that tender neck. Her breath touched Jiang Nian’s skin, making her tremble uncontrollably.
The tips of her fangs hovered above the vein. She was about to bite.
“No, please don’t, Gu Li.”
Jiang Nian’s voice came through.
It was soft and broken, but it hit Gu Li’s mind like a hammer, snapping her out of her frenzy.
She bit down hard on her own tongue.
The pain from her own teeth sinking into flesh forced her awake.
She released Jiang Nian’s hands.
In the original novel, that cruel vampire had grabbed Jiang Nian by the neck and bit down without mercy.
She ignored Jiang Nian’s cries and took pleasure in her pain. The bl00d rushed into her body, and the sweet taste only made her more obsessed.
Jiang Nian, already fragile, had no strength to endure the vampire’s greedy feeding. Her lips slowly lost all color. Every second that passed pushed her body closer to collapse.
That vampire no longer felt sickness or pain, yet she still took far more than she needed.
Back when Gu Li read that story, she had cursed that vampire with every word.
But now, every curse she had once spoken belonged to her.
Because that monster was the vampire.
And now, that monster was also her.
