- Chapter 12 - Unexplained Jealousy
Gu Pei’s short, wine-red hair revealed sharp eyebrows, and her amber eyes, usually warm, now brimmed with intense hostility.Â
A scar at the corner of her eye added a fierce edge to her already well-defined face.
She wore a loose, casual suit, hands stuffed in the pockets of her trousers, exuding a rebellious yet cool vibe.
When Gu Pei saw the pale, startled girl staring blankly at her, she couldn’t help but wonder if her entrance had scared her.Â
Reflexively, she pulled her hand from her pocket, trying to cover the scar near her eye. Then, with a fierce look, she glared at Mu Jia, who stood nearby with hearts in her eyes.
“And who do you think you are, bullying my friend? Who gave you the guts?”Â
Gu Pei was one of the top four “school princes” at Lin High, the only girl voted into the position by the entire female student body, she was also the school’s top bully. Her mix of roguish charm and good looks had made her the heartthrob of countless boys and girls alike.
Mu Jia, too, had been among her admirers. Now, being scolded by her idol over another girl, a seed of hatred began to grow in her heart.
At this moment, the manager of the Yue Le Bookstore finally arrived, wiping cold sweat from her forehead and putting on a smile. “Miss Gu, what brings you here personally today?”
“What do you think?” Gu Pei chuckled, her smile bright but terrifying to the manager.Â
“I was waiting for my friend outside when a pest decided to pick on her. Now she’s upset. What do you think should be done?”
The manager quickly caught on. “Understood, Miss Gu. I’ll immediately blacklist this young lady from our store!”
Without hesitation, the bodyguards behind her stepped forward, dragging Mu Jia away despite her protests.
“I wasn’t lying! Mu Suru was kept by a sugar daddy! How else could she be dressed so finely?”
Gu Pei snapped her fingers, and the bodyguards halted.Â
Mu Jia, unaware of the danger, continued shouting, “Mu Suru is just a—”
A long, slender hand gripped Mu Jia’s chin tightly, forcing tears from her eyes as Gu Pei’s strength made it impossible to resist.
Mu Jia’s tearful eyes met Gu Pei’s face, which was now inches from her own, noses nearly touching.Â
Blushing slightly, she realized that Gu Pei was undeniably handsome, her heart fluttering despite the situation.
As Mu Jia’s shy, blushing face reflected in Gu Pei’s amber eyes, Gu Pei moved even closer, her warm breath tickling Mu Jia’s neck.
But the words that came out of Gu Pei’s mouth were as sharp as knives. “You? Look at yourself. You’re not even worthy of speaking about her.”
Mu Jia’s face paled instantly, and Gu Pei straightened up, ignoring her stunned expression. The bodyguards promptly carried her away without a sound.
Facing the murmuring crowd, Gu Pei’s voice was low and slightly raspy. “All her clothes and accessories were gifts from me. Don’t be jealous just because you can’t have what she does!”
Embarrassed, the onlookers quickly dispersed.
Mu Suru’s eyes sparkled with gratitude as she smiled, lips curving into a beautiful arc.Â
In the original storyline, Mu Suru had been humiliated by Mu Jia in a women’s clothing store, and it was also Gu Pei who had stepped in to help.
However, the timid original Mu Suru hadn’t had a chance to thank her, and Gu Pei had left without hearing a word of thanks. That regret had lingered in the original Mu Suru’s heart until her death.
So now…
“Gu Pei, thank you.”
The genuine words flowed from Mu Suru’s lips, and the last remnants of regret from the original host’s soul faded away.
[Zero One, I’ve taken over the original host’s body. Where did she go?]
[She willingly signed an agreement to give up her body. She has let go of her pain and been reincarnated.]
Hearing this, Mu Suru was finally at ease.Â
Thankfully, it wasn’t some kind of malicious possession, otherwise, she’d feel guilty forever.
Gu Pei’s tall figure trembled slightly, her back to Mu Suru as an uncontrollable surge of excitement bubbled inside her.Â
She’d been quietly admiring this adorable girl for half a year now.
A soft and cute girl like Mu Suru had been on Gu Pei’s radar for a long time. And now, she’d finally heard her speak for the first time!
That sweet, gentle voice almost made Gu Pei want to give her everything she had.
Clearing her throat, Gu Pei tried to keep her composure. “Ahem… no need to thank me.”
She awkwardly scratched her wine-red hair, her face half-hidden in the dim light, jaw clenched as if angry.Â
Then, stiffly, she turned around, hands shoved back into her pockets, and walked away with her usual swagger.
Holding her children’s books close, Mu Suru covered her mouth, stifling a laugh.Â
Of course, she knew Gu Pei wasn’t angry, she was just shy.
She felt good seeing Gu Pei like this.
Back at home, Ren Zai had been tense ever since he lost track of that familiar scent.Â
Unsettled, he squirmed restlessly, trying to shake off the IV needle in his hand.Â
But the image of the person he liked, pouting angrily at him, lingered in his mind.
For that reason alone, Ren Zai decided to stay still and obedient. If he did, maybe that person would be happy again and hug him like before.
[Blackening Value +2]
Ren Zai lay quietly, his wide, dark eyes staring into space with an unsettling intensity.
Suddenly, the door creaked open. His head snapped to the side, but it wasn’t the familiar presence he was hoping for.
His eyes began to turn red, he exhaled heavily, and he uttered a sound: “Ah…ah.”
Xia Qian just opened the door and met the pair of bloodshot eyes staring at her.
At that moment, Xia Qian’s legs almost gave out from fear. Swallowing hard, she carefully said, “I came to bring you dinner…”
As she moved, Ren Zai’s eerie gaze followed her every step, never blinking.Â
The sensation of being watched was terrifying, and Xia Qian felt a chill run down her spine.
Placing the food a safe distance away, she forced a sweet smile. “My sister must have been delayed. You should eat while it’s still hot. You’re injured, after all…”
Ren Zai didn’t care to listen to this unpleasant human’s rambling.Â
He closed his eyes, pretending to sleep, which only frustrated Xia Qian further.
If she didn’t want to take away everything that Mu Suru liked.
How could Xia Qian take the initiative to sneak in when Mu Suru was not around!
She just wanted to let this child have more favor towards her in the name of delivering food.
Then slowly start to instill some bad things about Mu Suru to make him hate her.
In this way, if anyone thought that the child she took care of so carefully hated her, her heart would definitely collapse!
Xia Qian just wanted to break down Mu Suru’s defenses one by one.
The previous many times she attracted the attention of Brother Mu Chen and Brother Mu An were just to make Mu Suru suffer!
Jealousy was Xia Qian’s sole motivation, the jealousy of a girl who hated Mu Suru’s life filled with the love and care she’d never had.
