- Chapter 16 - The Collapse of Lies
A tall, slender figure silently observed from afar and disappeared in a flash. Mu Suru barely caught sight of a white corner of clothing, but it was enough.
In the past, whenever the original Mu Suru was bullied, there was always a shadow that silently followed her.
Those bullies would inexplicably end up in the hospital the next day. No one knew who had beaten them up, just a sack over their heads, and they were left with swollen black eyes.
Mu Suru, now aware of the full plot, knew that the figure was Gu Pei.
As for why Gu Pei never appeared when Mu Suru was being bullied? Gu Pei was a cold and indifferent person. She had no familial ties with Mu Suru, so why would she bother getting involved in her troubles?
However, Gu Pei had a warm heart beneath her cold exterior. She wanted to see Mu Suru stand up for herself, but the original Mu Suru never did.
So, Gu Pei took her frustrations out on the bullies instead.
After things were settled, Mu Suru sweetly thanked Li De, “Thank you for your help, Uncle Li!”
Li De was taken aback, flustered, and replied, “It’s my duty, Miss Mu.”
Mu Suru glanced at her watch. Oh no, she was late!
The classroom was like a heavily guarded cage, and Mu Suru was the warden inspecting outside.
Actually, she was just late and got punished to stand outside.
Inside, the students laughed mockingly.
“This stinky bug is really hilarious, how dare she be late for Mr. Zhu’s class? She must have a death wish!”
“Yeah, right?”
“Don’t say that. If she hears, she might sue us again!”
One of the students, who had been sued for bad-mouthing Mu Suru at the school gate, spoke with obvious bitterness.
Mr. Zhu’s hair was almost completely white, but his sharp, eagle-like eyes remained piercing behind his glasses. He continued teaching relentlessly, occasionally checking the time. Finally, after most of the class had passed, he mercifully called out, “Mu Suru, you may come in now!”
The sun shone brightly, casting a golden light on Mu Suru as she stood outside. Her delicate, pale face turned a rosy shade in the sunlight.
Hearing this heavenly voice, Mu Suru hurriedly pushed open the classroom door.
She was wearing a lovely blue dress with an adorable bunny hair clip holding back her loose strands of hair, revealing her exquisite eyebrows and eyes. The soft light filtering in made her entire figure glow.
Her beauty stirred a desire in the onlookers to lavish her with every compliment they could think of.
Feeling warm, Mu Suru quickly found her seat and sat down, fanning herself with her small hands. Her rosy lips opened and closed, and a few boys were utterly entranced, including Xu Qiang.
Xu Qiang nudged the boy next to him who was napping on his desk. “Meng Changan, look at the pretty girl sitting on your right…”
Meng Changan, groggy from having removed his glasses, lazily lifted his head. His heavy dark circles gave him a dazed expression. Noticing his disheveled appearance, Xu Qiang teased, “Hey, did you sneak out with a girl last night? You’re usually so alert in Mr. Zhu’s class, but today you’re nodding off.”
“Nah, I just stayed up all night gaming…”
Meng Changan yawned, his tired face showing a lazy smile. He looked to the right as Xu Qiang suggested and saw the girl sitting upright and diligently taking notes.
“Her? She’s an old classmate…”
Xu Qiang scratched his head, looking excited. “No, dude! Mu Suru is at least a hundred times prettier than she used to be…”
Meng Changan looked at Mu Suru. Aside from her fair skin and refined air, he didn’t see much of a difference.
Seeing his friend’s indifferent expression, Xu Qiang clutched his head dramatically.
How could he expect a straight guy like Meng Changan to appreciate a girl’s unique charm?
Mr. Zhu, having mastered the art of throwing chalk, flicked a piece with perfect accuracy, hitting Xu Qiang square on the head, making him yelp in pain. He looked at the podium with a pitiful expression as Mr. Zhu sternly glared back.
As the bell rang for class dismissal, Mr. Zhu cleared his throat. “The midterms are coming up in two days. I expect everyone to study hard and prepare thoroughly for the exams!”
His words were passionate and inspiring, yet this was F-Class, the worst class in the junior high school. The students were all wealthy heirs more interested in having fun than studying. They yawned and blatantly began to play and goof around.
Mr. Zhu shook his head and left the room with his textbooks.
Mu Suru gently blew on the ink of her notebook, reflecting on how, after her rebirth, she now had to experience school life all over again.
Luckily, Mu Suru was a genius with an IQ of 520, so these textbooks were a breeze for her.
Such bliss!
Suddenly, a shadow fell across her desk, and she looked up, confused.
Before her was a bright, sunny smile.
“Mu Suru, I’m Xu Qiang. What you did this morning was awesome!”
Xu Qiang scratched his head, flashing a big toothy grin. His eyes were full of kindness.
Since she didn’t have much of a connection with him in her memories, Mu Suru responded with a friendly smile.
But to her surprise, the big guy in front of her shyly asked, “Mu Suru, could I get your We…”
Before he could finish, Meng Changan quickly covered Xu Qiang’s mouth and nodded politely at Mu Suru, dragging his friend away before he could embarrass himself further.
Mu Suru was amazed that Meng Changan, so thin and frail-looking, could actually pull away someone as big and strong as Xu Qiang.
People really can’t be judged by their appearances!
Time passed quickly, and soon it was lunchtime. Mu Suru took out the beautifully prepared lunchbox from Aunt Li.
She opened it eagerly, revealing a mountain of spicy, peeled shrimp!
Mu Suru took a spoonful of shrimp meat and popped it into her mouth, savoring the tangy, spicy flavor that exploded on her tongue. It was simply divine!
Meanwhile, Xia Qian staggered down the hall, clutching her own lunchbox, desperately trying to ignore the gossip that trailed behind her.
“Xia Qian and Mu Suru started school together. Back then, we asked her if they knew each other, and she swore they didn’t…”
“Who would’ve thought not only do they know each other, they’re actually sisters! Xia Qian’s little sister was bullied so badly, and all she could do was offer a few comforting words!”
“If we’d known they were sisters, we wouldn’t have bullied her! No matter how you look at it…”
It wasn’t true… She hadn’t!
Xia Qian quickly entered Mu Suru’s classroom.
The spicy scent in the air made her wrinkle her nose in distaste, and her once-pitiful eyes locked onto Mu Suru, who was enjoying her shrimp.
Her once delicate face twisted into something ugly.
Several classmates, still lingering in the classroom, saw Xia Qian’s expression and felt a chill run down their spines.
“Little sister, I’ve come to eat with you…”
Xia Qian forced a strange smile, sitting down beside Mu Suru and opening her own lunchbox.
Since she couldn’t handle spicy food, her lunch was a mild dish of boiled fish, light but flavorful.
However, as the fresh taste spread across Xia Qian’s tongue, she couldn’t help but feel nauseated.
