- Chapter 19 - Weird Task
Mu Chen, following behind, had also changed into slippers.
He was tall and casually draped his suit jacket over his shoulder, casting a brief glance at Xia Qian before turning away.
His cold demeanor made Xia Qian feel as if she were falling into an icy abyss. She was sure that Mu Chen knew about Mu Suru being bullied at school.
She felt uneasy, and glanced at Mu Suru. Despite her innocent smile, something seemed off today.
Just based on her performance today, Xia Qian always felt like she had changed her heart and she was hard to control anymore!
On the coffee table was a fruit platter, with juicy yellow peaches cut into chunks and skewered with toothpicks.
Mu Suru lounged on the sofa, lazily picking up a toothpick and savoring the peaches.
Xia Qian was too anxious to focus on her test papers.
Was Mu Chen’s silence a sign that Mu Suru hadn’t revealed anything?
“Xia Qian, I’ve already called the school. Starting tomorrow, you can stay at the school.”
The straightforward statement turned Xia Qian’s face pale.
Her lips moved for a moment, but she could only look up at the tall figure disappearing on the stairs.
Mu Suru couldn’t help but feel a bit smug. At least her brother was no longer deceived by Xia Qian!
No longer interested in pretending to be close, Xia Qian dropped the pretense and scowled with resentment.
“Mu Suru, did you already know?”
Mu Suru smirked. “Know what? That you’re pretending not to know me at school? Or that you’ve gone to great lengths to hide my school troubles from my brothers? Xia Qian, do you really think I don’t see through your tricks?”
Her tone was crisp with a hint of coldness.
Xia Qian felt a pang of guilt and tried to bluff. “Mu Suru, you’re so two-faced. What if Mu Chen finds out about your scheming…”
“Instead of worrying about that, why don’t you worry about yourself!”
Mu Suru confidently took the last bite of peach and headed upstairs without looking back.
Under the amethyst chandelier, Xia Qian’s beautiful face flickered in the dim light, as if she had fallen into a deep pit.
Hospital
Late at night, the outside world remained noisy, with colorful neon lights reflecting off the buildings in a beautiful display.
But in Ren Zai’s eyes, there was no light, as if nothing could capture his attention.
When he caught a whiff of a familiar scent, his eyes brightened.
“Xiao Zai, I’m here…”
Mu Suru held an iPad, ready to teach the little villain to write.
Ren Zai opened his mouth aggrievedly. “ru…tuan…”
He spoke slowly, his pink lips moving, and his long eyelashes gently curled, looking both obedient and adorable.
Mu Suru was overjoyed. Although the little villain spoke slowly, he had still pronounced her nickname.
Fueled with energy, she felt ready for another day of taking care of the little villain!
After feeding Ren Zai, Mu Suru opened the iPad and wrote the character “任” (Ren), saying, “r…e…n.”
Ren Zai, slightly confused, watched as Mu Suru gently guided his hand to write the character.
He looked at his uneven attempt and the neat character written by Mu Suru next to it.
Feeling a bit dejected, Ren Zai lowered his head. Mu Suru was amused and ruffled his hair.
“Practice slowly…”
Ren Zai’s lips formed the sound “Ren!”
In an instant, Ren Zai had written the characters “任哉” (Ren Zai).
Mu Suru smiled. “Xiao Zai, this is your name!”
Ren Zai stared at her moving lips, trying to piece together the pronunciation in his mind.
“Ren Zai? My…name…”
He stammered, and seeing Mu Suru nod, his eyes sparkled with newfound hope, like a homeless child finally finding a home.
Suddenly, Ren Zai’s previously pale face showed a strange expression.
“Ru…tuan, you…”
Mu Suru tentatively asked, “Do you want to write my name?”
Ren Zai nodded eagerly, his eyes shining with anticipation.
[Task Released: Fulfill Ren Zai’s Current Wish]
“…”
Why did it seem like each task released was stranger than the last?
Mu Suru’s face lit up with a radiant smile. She wrote her name “沐酥汝” (Mu Suru) on the iPad.
Ren Zai insisted on writing himself, not letting Mu Suru guide his hand. Determined, he wrote each character painstakingly.
It took him over an hour just to write the three characters, resulting in three rather imperfect versions.
[Task Completed, Plot Points +10]
Ren Zai showed no visible reaction, and Mu Suru couldn’t tell if he was satisfied until…
[Blackening Value +1]
Mu Suru sighed, realizing that some things couldn’t be forced. “Let’s sleep…”
———-
Meng Chang’an drew the curtains on his bed, settled into his covers, and turned on his phone.
The faint light from the screen illuminated Meng Chang’an’s somewhat creepy smile.
Xu Qiang, wearing flashy boxer shorts and a bare, skinny upper body. He was washing in the sink, with a toothbrush in his mouth foaming when he heard the movement from the upper bunk and saw Meng Chang’an pull the curtain shut.
“Ugh, Chang’an, what are you hiding? Everyone in the dorm knows!”
His comment made the other two roommates laugh heartily.
The baby-faced Ka Yi sighed. “I miss the old Chang’an who only loved me~”
The voice was deliberately pinched, almost charming.
“Ugh… Ka Yi, shut up!”
Yang Yi, with a muscular build and a straightforward face.
Xu Qian shrugged. “Alas, that little enchantress has bewitched him…”
Meng Chang’an didn’t have time for their chatter.
The familiar sound of the game’s BGM played, and Meng Chang’an took a deep breath, looking a bit nervous.
“Pei Yigu” invites you to a ranked match (Decline) (Confirm)
He tapped the yellow confirm button.
The screen switched to the team setup, and a red dot appeared next to the friend’s name.
Meng Chang’an clicked it and saw a message from the orange cat avatar.
Pei Yigu: Are you ready? <Big Boss> GIF
Meng Yian: Ready, let’s start! <Domineeringt> GIF
“Xiao Meng, I’m going to win back my pride this time!”
Her voice was cold and ethereal, tinged with anger, striking Meng Chang’an’s heart like a hammer.
He hesitated, then nervously opened the microphone, speaking in a sweet, slightly childish voice. “Sister Pei, don’t be mad. Xiao Meng will carry you to victory!”
In a rundown, chilly single room, Gu Pei, curled up in the corner of her bed, heard his warm voice and smiled, unaware of the tenderness on her face.
Gu Pei had met the boy named Meng Yian through the game “Honor of Kings.” His Prince of Lanling had dominated the game with a 15/0/13 score.
Unfortunately, he had been on the opposing team…
As a result, Gu Pei’s Xiao Qiao had ended up with a 0/10/3 score, leading to a crushing defeat in the ranked match.
