- Chapter 26 - Reunion After Three Years
In less than half an hour, a tall and imposing man appeared.
He had soft golden hair, deep blue eyes filled with melancholy, and a high, prominent nose, a clear signs he was a foreigner.
Yu Yi’s sharp gaze landed on the delicate girl sitting in the chair.
He nodded and started speaking to the doctor.
His fluent English left Xia Qian completely bewildered.
Fortunately, the doctor was a former international student and understood him perfectly.
After a brief conversation, Yu Yi walked over to Xia Qian, his handsome features leaving her somewhat entranced.
“Hello, I’m Sunce Yu Yi. You can call me Yu Yi” [1]
He introduced himself confidently, extending his hand for a handshake.
So, he speaks Chinese after all, though it sounded a bit awkward.
Xia Qian quickly shook his broad, warm hand.
“Hello, I’m Xia Qian.”
Yu Yi politely gave her hand a brief shake before releasing it.
His fingers, however, seemed to unintentionally brush against Xia Qian’s soft palm, sending a tickling sensation straight to her heart, nearly making her gasp aloud.
Annoyed and embarrassed, she shot a look at the man who seemed to be teasing her.
Yet, he appeared completely innocent, even bowing slightly in gratitude.
“Thank you so much for saving my grandmother. I could tell from your voice on the phone that you were a kind young lady. Now that I see you, you are indeed a beautiful maiden,” he complimented her sincerely.
Xia Qian, flattered by the praise, momentarily forgot about the earlier incident.
“Oh, it was nothing. I couldn’t just stand by and do nothing after seeing what happened!”
She replied with an air of righteousness, which only deepened the admiration in Yu Yi’s eyes.
At that moment, the door to the room opened, and Yu Yi hurried inside.
Xia Qian hesitated, unsure whether to leave, but decided to follow him in.
The elderly woman lay in the hospital bed, hooked up to an oxygen mask.
Yu Yi gently held her frail hand, his handsome face filled with guilt. “Grandma, it’s my fault. I came too late…”
Xia Qian stood quietly nearby, careful not to make a sound, feeling it was best not to disturb them.
Yu Yi continued, “I still need to take care of you for the rest of your life. You have to get better.”
He spoke for a while longer, and soon, the night had grown darker.
He straightened up and turned to Xia Qian with an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry to have kept you waiting so long.”
Xia Qian smiled understandingly. “It’s alright, but I need to get back to school now.”
Yu Yi’s blue eyes softened as he smiled back. “Let me walk you back.”
Feeling slightly awkward, Xia Qian waved her hand. “No need…”
“It’s not safe for a girl to walk alone at night,” he insisted.
With that, Xia Qian had no choice but to agree.
The bright moon hung high in the sky, and the soft orange glow of the streetlights illuminated the path ahead.
Xia Qian, wearing a floral long dress, had her dark hair tied up in a cute bun, with loose strands framing her delicate face. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, and her bright eyes glistened with emotion, making her beauty even more enchanting.
“Yu Yi, you can stop here.”
Yu Yi, dressed in cream-colored clothes, his golden curls framing his gentle blue eyes, smiled warmly at her.
“Thank you again for saving my grandmother!”
Xia Qian, feeling shy, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “I really didn’t do much.”
Yu Yi, ever the gentleman, asked, “Would it be alright if we exchanged WeChat contacts?”
Xia Qian agreed, and after adding each other, she waved goodbye and walked into the school gates.
As her silhouette disappeared, a mischievous smile tugged at the corners of Yu Yi’s lips. He dialed a number. “Look into everything about Xia Qian for me.”

The familiar system notification rang out, and Mu Suru let out a sigh of relief.
Seeing that Ren Zai’s leg injury was almost healed, she handled the discharge paperwork.
Mu Suru walked very easily in the corridor full of the smell of disinfectant, her steps light and relaxed.
While Mu Chen trailed behind, firmly holding onto the squirming Ren Zai in his arms.
“Stop wriggling. If you fall, don’t blame me!” Mu Chen warned.
Ren Zai, held tightly in Mu Chen’s grip, instinctively disliked the scent coming from him, struggling continuously in his arms.
Mu Chen’s warning went completely ignored by Ren Zai.
“You know how heavy you are. Do you think Mu Suru could carry you?”
Hearing this, Ren Zai finally stopped struggling but turned his little head away, showing clear disdain.
His attitude nearly pushed the usually patient Mu Chen to the point of losing his temper and giving the brat a solid beating.
Mu Suru, walking ahead, glanced back at the pair, a big and small figure bickering, and couldn’t help but smile brightly.
She wished this moment would last forever.
Suddenly, a teasing voice chimed in, “Hey, Mu Chen, do you still remember me?”
The tone was light and playful, tinged with allure.
Mu Suru halted in her tracks and turned around.
A beautiful woman stood there, wearing a baggy nurse’s uniform, yet her voluptuous figure was impossible to hide.
It gave her an irresistible charm that made one want to peel away each layer.
Her wine-red wavy hair was half-tied, revealing her pale forehead. Her mesmerizing eyes sparkled with tiny lights, and her red lips curved into a slight smile, radiating an unintentional allure.
At that moment, Mu Suru’s eyes gleamed with excitement, was her long-single older brother finally going to find love?
Seeing the mature woman before him, Mu Chen’s usually composed face showed a hint of surprise for the first time. “Hua Shaoyi, you…”
He had never imagined their reunion after three years would start like this.
Hua Shaoyi smiled, her expression captivating. “Mu Chen, long time no see. You haven’t changed at all!”
Upon hearing Hua Shaoyi’s name, Mu Suru immediately recalled who she was.
Hua Shaoyi, the campus beauty from Huaxu High School, had been Mu Chen’s secret crush during their high school years.
The two had mutual feelings, but due to misunderstandings, they eventually parted ways.
After the college entrance exams, Mu Chen had to give up on his university dreams to manage his late father’s company, while Hua Shaoyi pursued her passion for medicine.
Their lives had diverged since then.
During Mu Chen’s imprisonment after being framed, Hua Shaoyi had tried to visit him but was blocked by Yao Yuan’s people.
Lacking the influence to get through, she had no choice but to plead for help from others, though no one came to help.
In the end, she had no choice but to become a police officer’s mistress, and only then did she have the opportunity to meet Mu Chen.
But by the time she finally saw him, all that awaited her was his still-warm corpse.
The warden claimed Mu Chen had taken his own life, unable to endure the hardships of prison.
At that moment, Hua Shaoyi felt as though the pillar supporting her world had crumbled.
Not long after becoming the officer’s mistress, his wife found out, publicly humiliating Hua Shaoyi.
Distraught and disoriented, she was hit by a car while crossing the road, and her life ended there.
Mu Suru thought to herself, it’s time to play matchmaker!
[1] “The meaning of “逊斯” (Sunce) is unclear in Chinese. It could be a transliteration of a foreign name or title that doesn’t directly translate into Chinese, or it might have been chosen for its phonetic sound rather than its meaning. Typically, “逊” (xùn) means “modest” or “yielding,” and “斯” (sī) is often used as a phonetic component in names, especially foreign-sounding ones. Sunce could be a western name (?) based on the context.
