- Chapter 29 - Ren Zai's Paranoia
When Ren Zai saw that Mu Suru hadn’t left, a glimmer of light flashed in his black, jade-like eyes.
He consciously moved inward, leaving enough space for Mu Suru to lie down.
Mu Suru immediately understood his gesture and was filled with exasperation: “Little Zai, your sister isn’t sleeping with you.”
Ren Zai stayed silent, but his little head drooped in disappointment.
Mu Suru didn’t notice this and instead thought about her little dinosaur pajamas, and a story naturally came to mind.
“Little Zai, do you want to hear a bedtime story?”
“Yes!”
Ren Zai responded fluently, then he proactively rested his head on Mu Suru’s lap.
Mu Suru smiled and gently stroked the delicate brows of the little villain.
Her nails were neatly trimmed and had a faint pink hue.
She lowered her voice, her tone soft yet carrying a hint of drowsiness: “Once upon a time… there was a little dinosaur who flew until it was very tired and felt a bit hungry. Then it met a cute little bunny, and they became good friends…”
Mu Suru paused, her smile deepening: “The little dinosaur roared and gobbled up the cute little bunny in one bite. Full, it flapped its wings and flew away…”
Ren Zai’s lips twitched, and his head filled with exasperation: Is this really a bedtime story?
Using the gentlest voice to tell such a scary story…
Mu Suru noticed that the little villain still had his wide eyes open and asked, puzzled, “Little Zai, aren’t you sleepy? Should I continue…”
Ren Zai immediately closed his eyes, his long, curled eyelashes and lips as delicate as rose petals, making him look like a little prince.
Seeing this, Mu Suru felt a surge of pride.
See? I can tell bedtime stories, and I’ve even coaxed the little one to sleep with my gentle voice!
Not some villain who would scare little kids to tears!
Mu Suru tucked Ren Zai back under the covers and left feeling very pleased with herself.
As the light slowly faded into darkness, Ren Zai, who was wrapped tightly in his blanket, threw off the covers. He touched the still-warm quilt, his emotions unclear.
【Darkness Value +1, Current Darkness Value: 29】
Mu Suru changed into her dinosaur pajamas and lay comfortably on her soft mattress.
She was in a peaceful mood, took a sip from her warm glass of milk, but was immediately startled by the system notification.
Cough, cough…
Wasn’t the little villain asleep already?
Could it be that I accidentally woke him up when I opened the door?
System 01: …
Shouldn’t you be more concerned about that rising darkness value?!
【Host, I noticed the villain’s darkness value never rose this much even when he was at the orphanage. You’re really good at raising it yourself.】
[This…]
We can’t have this conversation anymore!
Later that night, during training, Ren Zai worked even harder, putting in all his effort to learn.
Although his behavior was extremely proactive, Mu Suru could sense that something was wrong.
“Little Zai, what’s the matter?”
Ren Zai smiled: “Sister, I just want to learn how to walk quickly.”
But perhaps he tugged on his injured lips, and he winced in pain, taking sharp breaths.
Seeing him like this, Mu Suru immediately dismissed the fleeting thought she had earlier.
A little later, Ren Zai was injured all over again, and just as Mu Suru was about to carry him, Mu Chen appeared out of nowhere.
“Ru Tuan, let me do it. This kid is so dirty…”
Mu Chen, understanding as always, picked up the dirty little boy and carried him away. Mu Suru gazed at him with a look full of gratitude.
Ren Zai resisted a little but eventually remembered a promise he had made and stopped struggling.
In the black-and-white room, Ren Zai was unceremoniously thrown onto the bed by Mu Chen, who then opened the first-aid kit to apply medicine to Ren Zai’s wounds.
Ren Zai, unwilling, spoke up: “I can do it myself…”
Mu Chen promptly handed over the cotton swab and just stood there watching.
Ren Zai: “…”
He slowly undressed, wincing as he applied the medicine to his wounds.
When it came to the wounds on his back, he struggled to reach them, making the process all the more difficult.
Mu Chen snatched the cotton swab from Ren Zai’s hand and applied the medicine with a force that made Ren Zai hiss in pain: “Ah…”
“I’m not the type to do anything stupid. If there’s outside help available, take it. Otherwise, you’re just being stubborn. What’s the difference between that and being a fool?”
Mu Chen’s cold eyes shot daggers, and his entire aura radiated a kind of sharp intensity.
His thin, sexy lips carried a hint of cool indifference.
Ren Zai seemed to somewhat understand. He turned his head and, for the first time, seriously looked at this seemingly cold but warm-hearted man.
Mu Chen was wearing a black suit, his perfectly groomed hair making his well-sculpted face appear even more disciplined.
His slender, beautiful fingers moved over Ren Zai’s skin, and his expression was a mix of detachment and gentleness.
“Thank you, big… brother”
Ren Zai stammered, his previously pale face flushing with embarrassment.
Mu Chen’s eyes glinted with amusement. This bad kid was quite considerate!
Soon, Tuesday arrived, and Mu Chen was in his study organizing documents.
After hearing two “ding” sounds, he rubbed his tired temples and picked up his phone. As soon as he unlocked it, two messages popped up.
Hua Yishao: Mu Chen, are you there?
Hua Yishao: I’m waiting for you and your sister at Xiawan Street.
Mu Yi Anchen: Okay.
A simple reply, but it made Hua Yishao ecstatic.
She stood in front of a full-length mirror, admiring herself.
Her red dress hugged her curvy figure, the hem reaching just below her knees, revealing her slender, fair legs.
Hua Yishao’s delicate fingers brushed over her face, still beautiful even without makeup.
Her once innocent eyes now carried the weight of experience and sorrow, invoking a sense of regret in anyone who looked.
“Ru Tuan, get ready to go”
Today, Mu Chen wasn’t wearing a suit. Instead, he opted for a dark blue casual outfit.
His usually slicked-back hair hung loosely over his forehead, and his eyes, free from the gold-rimmed glasses, had a hint of warmth.
This outfit made him look several years younger, like a fresh-faced young man who hadn’t yet faced the hardships of society.
Mu Suru pretended not to notice that he had dressed up on purpose and joyfully exclaimed, “Elder Brother, let’s go! I haven’t seen the pretty big sister in so long!”
Mu Chen teased her, “It’s only been a day, how can you say ‘so long’?”
“You don’t understand. There’s a saying, ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder,’ and I miss her so much!”
Mu Suru’s childlike words carried a hidden meaning, but Mu Chen didn’t catch on.
Hearing her words, he remembered how it had already been three years since they broke up… And after seeing her yesterday, he found himself missing her more.
Mu Suru snickered to herself, He’s definitely still likes her!
Meanwhile, a small figure hid behind the massive door, watching the departing car with dark, brooding eyes.
