- Chapter 34 - Sister's Blood is Sweet
Mu Chen hid behind the white wall, watching Hua Shaoyi searching for something.
The tall man from behind caught up, said something unknown, and obediently left while being led away.
Mu Chen slumped to the ground in frustration. Normally, someone who loved cleanliness, he didn’t care about anything at this moment.
He stared at the specks of stars twinkling in the night sky.
His gaze became unfocused, as if transported back to his high school days.
Mu Chen had bought sugar-coated hawthorn fruit because Shaoyi liked them.
With a smile on his lips, he walked to her door, planning to surprise her.
He quietly opened the door with a spare key.
However, he heard an all-too-familiar male voice: “Shaoyi, this is what you owe me, so for the rest of your life, you will always owe me!”
“I… understand.”
The hesitant, stammering sweet voice was clearly Shaoyi’s!
Mu Chen felt a faint green light flickering above his head, and a surge of anger shot straight to his head.
As a teenager, Mu Chen was naturally impulsive. How could he tolerate what seemed like his girlfriend cheating on him?
He forcefully pushed open the bedroom door, and the scene that made him lose his sanity unfolded before him: a flamboyantly dressed boy was pinning a young, delicate-looking girl against the wall.
“Yi Hu, you bastard…”
His normally gentle voice, like clear spring water, was now laced with endless fury.
“Mu Chen, you’ve misunderstood…”
Mu Chen didn’t even glance at the panicked Hua Shaoyi trying to explain and landed a punch on Yi Hu, knocking him down.
They started brawling, the sound of shattering glass and Hua Shaoyi’s screams gradually fading into the beautiful night.
Mu Suru bid farewell to Gu Pei and then went looking for the little villain.
[Zero One, mark Ren Zai’s location.]
The system, Zero One, responded with a pout: 【No… Hmph, you call me when you need me, but abandon me when you don’t. You heartless woman!!】
Mu Suru: “…”
Where did this drama queen come from?!
Zero One became serious: 【Host, the Plot Master has already noticed our presence. There might be unexpected events ahead.】
Mu Suru knew this was a heads-up.
[I got it!]
Zero One stopped at that, promptly providing her with a locator.
Mu Suru felt a red dot in her mind staying still in one spot, while a green dot moved as she walked.
It seemed she was the green dot, and Ren Zai was the red dot.
Near the old, dim walls, a small trembling figure huddled.
Mu Suru faintly heard sobbing, eerie in the dense darkness of the night.
She felt a bit awkward, she had pinky promised with the little villain earlier, and now she had left him behind.
“Little Zai, is that you?”
The small figure huddled in the corner stopped trembling upon hearing the voice, but didn’t answer.
“Little Zai, it’s my fault, I shouldn’t have left you behind…”
Mu Suru stepped over the obstacles in her way and approached the curled-up Ren Zai.
She bent down and reached out to stroke his head.
But Ren Zai pounced at her, knocking her to the ground.
Small gravel scraped Mu Suru’s delicate skin, sending waves of sharp pain through her.
The pain felt amplified, and her round apricot eyes began to mist with tears. She bit her lower lip, leaving faint teeth marks.
Ren Zai’s eyes, bright and black in the night, were fixed intensely on Mu Suru.
His voice, both aggrieved and childlike, said, “You left me again, Ru Tuan, so you must be punished!”
Mu Suru felt a headache coming, but this was indeed her fault.
“What punishment…”
The stabbing pain in her shoulder made Mu Suru cry out, “Ouch…”
Ren Zai bit deeply into the spot where there had long been a faded bite mark, only letting go after tasting the familiar metallic taste.
His tongue licked the wound with an ambiguous breath.
Then, he swallowed every drop of the oozing blood.
At that moment, Ren Zai was filled with excitement.
Sister’s blood is truly delicious, much tastier than animal blood…
Mu Suru felt like swearing. Was this little villain part dog?
Why did he bite the same spot again?!
Ren Zai was in a great mood, while Mu Suru was in a miserable one: “Is this the punishment you mentioned?”
“Exactly, Ru Tuan.”
Ren Zai was still pinning Mu Suru down. His soft chestnut hair tickled her nose, making her sneeze, “Achoo.”
“Ahem, get up.”
Ren Zai obediently got off her but then clutched his leg in pain.
Mu Suru noticed and, with ease, picked him up in a princess carry.
Before he realized what was happening, Ren Zai found himself in her arms.
His cute, chubby face looked up at Mu Suru with wide, grape-like black eyes, full of confusion.
He tightly clutched the front of her shirt, afraid of falling.
Mu Suru adjusted his weight and found he had gained quite a bit, he was harder to carry now.
“Sister, I’m heavy, I can walk on my own…”
She dismissed his concern: “Not heavy at all. Little Zai, even though you’ve learned to walk, you still shouldn’t walk too much.
You’ve already walked too much today, so don’t do it again!”
Ren Zai buried his head in her chest, the faint scent of milk surrounding his nose, making him feel dependent.
At Mu Tian House
“Wow, big brother, what happened to you? Why are you such a mess?”
Mu Suru looked incredulously at her self-proclaimed neat-freak brother, who now had leaves in his hair and wrinkles in his blue casual suit, with dust on his sleeves.
Mu Chen didn’t speak. He glanced at Ren Zai who had appeared out of nowhere, his voice filled with anger, “Who said you could sneak out? Aren’t you afraid of being kidnapped?!”
Ren Zai quickly hid behind Mu Suru, only his calm black eyes showing.
Mu Chen smoothed out the wrinkles on his clothes and said in a low voice, “It’s late, let’s go home.”
Mu Suru looked around but didn’t see the pretty lady. “Brother, did sister-in-law leave early? Ru Tuan didn’t get to say goodbye!”
Mu Chen paused for a barely noticeable moment. “She had something to do.”
Mu Suru didn’t believe her brother’s lie. It seemed the important plot was about to unfold.
———
In a remote cabin, Yi Hu angrily slammed his fist onto the wooden table, scattering debris all over.
“How about it, was I right?”
Xia Qian carefully lifted her skirt and stepped over the dirty rubble with a look of distaste on her pretty face.
“Yeah.”
Yi Hu’s face was dark, his wheat-colored fist embedded with sharp wood splinters, blood dripping to the ground.
“You’ve seen my sincerity, so shall we work together?”
Xia Qian smiled and extended her hand confidently.
Yi Hu looked at the ambitious girl before him with amusement. No matter how she tried to hide it, her ambition was clear in her eyes.
This girl had approached him directly, stating bluntly, “I can help you get Hua Shaoyi.”
Yi Hu was initially furious at her for seeing through his thoughts.
But then she said something that calmed him: “At 6:00 PM on Tuesday, she’ll meet Mu Chen on Xiwan Street. If I’m right, meet me at the cabin on Guangxi Road.”
As it turned out, she was correct, and Yi Hu was glad he had disrupted their meeting.
“What do we do next?”
He casually shook her hand and withdrew.
She was speechless but began explaining the next steps, “Next, you should…”
———
At night, it was time for Mu Suru to tell the little villain a warm bedtime story. This was the last day.
Mu Suru had beautifully arched brows and sparkling apricot eyes that exuded a delicate charm.
“Today’s story is about Little Red Riding Hood…” she said seriously, nodding.
“Little Red Riding Hood was a beloved girl. One day, she went into the forest to bring food to her grandmother, but a big bad wolf wanted to eat her, so she told the wolf…”
“Told him what?”
Even though Ren Zai had long lost interest in his sister’s bedtime stories, he instinctively asked.
But as soon as he asked, he regretted it…
T/N: The “green light” here refers to the Chinese idiom “戴绿帽” (wearing a green hat), meaning to be cheated on.
