- Chapter 37 - Using Strength to Prove a Point
Wang Gang looked at his mistress, her eyes red and face slightly pitiful. Feeling a bit of heartache, he hardened his voice and said, “Mr. Mu is the school’s largest shareholder. He’s donated several school buildings!”
At this, everyone was stunned, he’s a rich man!
No one said anything further and began writing the test papers. The whole office was left with only the sound of writing.
Jian Zi, although reluctant, started writing too, intentionally adding questions even she couldn’t solve. In no time, several sets of papers were stacked on the desk.
“Mr. Mu, if there’s nothing else, I’ll gather the students,” said Wang Gang, trying to maintain composure.
Mu Chen’s face remained expressionless, but his eyes were filled with certainty as he looked at Mu Suru. “Ru Tuan, I trust you didn’t cheat. After all, you’re our little princess!”
Mu Suru smiled lightly. “Thank you, brother, for believing in me.”
Soon, the school’s golden bell rang, its clear tone echoing throughout the campus. All the students stopped what they were doing and rushed to the sports field.
At Lin High School, there was a rule: when the bell rang, all students had to gather on the field. Anyone who didn’t would be punished.
Curious but patient, the students awaited the explanation.
Standing in neat rows, the entire field was eerily silent.
All phones were confiscated to prevent recording. Everyone’s attention was fixed on the stern-looking principal.
Gu Pei was among the students, her tall frame standing in the front row. She pursed her lips as she watched Mu Suru, who remained calm under the pressure.
Although Wang Gang was nearly forty years old, his voice boomed clearly: “I apologize for bringing everyone here on such short notice, but a very serious issue has arisen in our school!”
He glanced back at Mu Suru, sitting composedly. The students also noticed her, and whispers began to spread.
“Is this about Mu Suru?”
“I bet it’s her cheating scandal!”
“Such a pest!”
The principal frowned. “Silence!”
Instantly, the students went quiet. He continued, “Mu Suru has been accused of cheating on her exams.
The situation has escalated, so we’ve decided to let her take a new test on the spot. She has agreed to this. If the results show she didn’t cheat, all the teachers involved will apologize to her!”
He emphasized that the exam questions were chosen by the teachers and assured there was no favoritism.
Afterward, the teachers handed the papers to Mu Suru. Jian Zi, especially, seemed eager to see her fail.
Unfazed, Mu Suru quickly scanned the questions and began writing at a lightning-fast pace.
The other students were in disbelief.
“Is she crazy?”
“She must be randomly scribbling!”
Meanwhile, Mu Chen’s sharp gaze made the whispering students fall silent.
Jian Zi was also dumbfounded. She had deliberately added difficult university-level questions, ones she struggled with herself, yet Mu Suru was answering faster than her!
Mu Suru flew through the Chinese test, then moved on to math, and then the others in turn.
Before long, the teachers crowded around, watching her write. They grew more astonished by the minute, was she some kind of genius?
When she finished, she shook her slightly sore hand, only to meet several pairs of stunned eyes.
???
The math teacher, a tall, skinny middle-aged man, eagerly grabbed the math paper and began grading. The other teachers quickly followed suit with their own subjects.
The math teacher carefully reviewed the answers, his eyes brimming with admiration. “Little Ru, I purposely included questions I couldn’t even solve. But not only did you answer them, you provided two different methods! You’re a genius!”
Even Jian Zi had to put aside her bias and admit, “Your essay could easily score full marks. Your writing is excellent!”
One by one, the other teachers praised her, acknowledging that Mu Suru’s skills were more than enough to prove she didn’t need to cheat.
Even though Mu Wu found it hard to believe, seeing her student praised like this by all the teachers made her feel proud.
With all the teachers vouching for her, the cheating accusation was dismissed. But none of the teachers were willing to apologize.
The principal remained silent, clearly trying to protect his staff.
Mu Suru wasn’t surprised, they didn’t want to lose face by apologizing to a student. But she had expected this outcome.
“Fine, as long as Teacher Jian apologizes, the rest of the teachers can be excused.”
Her sharp words directly targeted Jian Zi.
The other teachers, relieved, looked at Jian Zi with hope in their eyes.
“Jian Zi, just apologize.”
“Yes, if you apologize, we don’t have to.”
Jian Zi nearly laughed in frustration. “Can’t you see she’s playing us? Who knows if she’s serious!”
The saying goes, ‘Better safe than sorry,’ and they believed it.
“Why should I, a teacher, apologize to you?” Jian Zi sneered at Mu Suru.
Since the students’ phones had been confiscated, Jian Zi didn’t bother holding back. Her contemptuous expression confused the students.
‘When did our teacher become like this?’ they wondered.
“We made a bet, and I’ve even compromised by asking only for your apology. Isn’t that enough?”
Mu Suru’s voice carried a hint of sadness, her doll-like face wet with tears.
At that moment, Mu Chen stopped recording on his phone and said, “I’m sorry, but I recorded everything.”
His words hit like a bolt of lightning. Wang Gang’s lips trembled in shock. They had forgotten about Mu Chen’s phone…
Mu Chen, satisfied with the video, smiled at Wang Gang. “Now, do you still refuse to apologize?”
The teachers tried to protest, but Wang Gang angrily shouted, “Apologize now! We agreed to this!”
Seeing the fury in his eyes, the teachers reluctantly apologized, and Jian Zi was forced to follow suit.
With that, the matter was settled. The students left, still bewildered. They had eaten a big melon!
Mu Chen received a call from his assistant, ruffled Mu Suru’s hair, and quickly left.
T/n: “吃瓜” (chī guā), or “big melon,” is a Chinese internet slang term that means to watch or listen to a major scandal or gossip unfold. The phrase originates from the idea of “eating melon seeds,” which is often associated with watching a spectacle.
