- Chapter 39 - Misunderstanding Resolved
“Am I interrupting at the wrong time? Disturbing your mother-daughter bonding… My apologies!”
Although saying this, Yi Hu entered naturally, his handsome face filled with arrogant charm.
The moment Hua’s mother heard that devilish voice, she recalled his words full of madness: “It’s all your fault! If it weren’t for you, my mother wouldn’t have loved in vain and suffered all her life! I will make you pay the price you deserve!”
For once, Yi Hu wasn’t wearing his flashy pink clothes. Instead, he dressed more subtly in white, exuding the air of a refined gentleman. His smile was like a spring breeze, but his words shocked Hua Shaoyi: “Mother, are you willing to entrust Shaoyi to me? I promise to love her for life!”
Shaoyi didn’t know what Yi Hu was up to, but her eyes were full of wariness as she shielded her mother.
Hua’s mother struggled with her expression but eventually settled into calmness.
Yi Hu, clutching his chest, feigned hurt: “Shaoyi, do you hate me so much?”
That nauseating name nearly made Shaoyi vomit, and indeed, she did: “Ugh…”
Yi Hu’s face turned green, obviously not expecting such disrespect.
“I agree!”
The weak but resolute words came from Hua’s mother. Shaoyi couldn’t believe her mother would agree to entrust her to the man who had brought them so much misery!
“Mom!”
Hua’s mother waved her hand weakly, looking exhausted: “Shaoyi, it’s for your own good…”
For her own good?
Shaoyi shook her head, her beautiful eyes brimming with tears.
Choking on her words, she said, “You’re not my mother… You can’t be…”
Shaoyi tried to run out of the courtyard, but Yi Hu grabbed her forcefully, pulling her into his arms. The overwhelming male presence made her feel sick: “Let me go…”
His face grew closer in her view, his breath hot as he spoke: “If you want your mother to enjoy her later years, you’d better agree to marry me!”
Shaoyi, full of disgust, turned her face away, not noticing the flicker of sadness in Yi Hu’s eyes.
She stared into her mother’s avoiding gaze, feeling a wave of defeat: “So, Mom, you’ve known about this all along… haven’t you?”
Hua’s mother looked ashamed, lowering her head in silence.
Shaoyi’s voice was tinged with despair: “So you want to use your daughter’s happiness to buy your freedom?”
Hua’s mother tried to play on emotions: “Shaoyi, do you know how I’ve lived these past two years? I can’t sleep soundly, my hair is falling out in clumps, and I fear I’ll die in that desolate nursing home…”
Her expression turned crazed, no longer the kind face it once was: “I’m begging you, as long as you marry this devil, I can finally be free! I’m begging you!”
The sunlight was warm, but Shaoyi’s heart felt as cold as ice.
She gave up, speaking in defeat: “I…”
“Don’t agree!”
Mu Chen, panting, leaned against the door frame, his clothes disheveled but still the same charming young man who had once made Shaoyi’s heart race.
Seeing Shaoyi trapped in Yi Hu’s arms, his voice turned cold: “Let her go!”
Yi Hu, defiant, tightened his hold, pulling Shaoyi closer.
Mu Chen’s eyes flashed with anger, but before he could act, there was a loud “thud”
Yi Hu dropped to his knees, clutching his groin in pain.
Shaoyi stood tall, looking fierce as she showed off her high heels.
Hua’s mother coughed softly, then said, “Mu Chen, this is our family matter, you shouldn’t interfere!”
Mu Chen strode forward, looking serious: “Auntie, do you truly want Shaoyi to marry this scum who’s worse than a pig or dog?”
Unable to meet his sharp gaze, Hua’s mother turned her head in shame.
Yi Hu, recovering from the pain, struggled to stand. Hearing Mu Chen’s words, he scoffed: “Worse than a pig or dog? Do you think Hua Shaoyi is any better? And don’t forget… she’s my girlfriend!”
Mu Chen’s eyes darkened. Because of this man, there had been a misunderstanding between him and Shaoyi, which only now, three years later, was being cleared up.
“Girlfriend? Do you really think I don’t know the truth?”
Clapping his hands, a group of bodyguards marched in and forcibly dragged Yi Hu away. Yi Hu struggled angrily: “Mu Chen, do you know who I am? I’m a billionaire entrepreneur! You dare offend me… just you wait!”
Mu Chen smiled faintly and waved his hand. The bodyguards stopped.
Yi Hu, thinking he was afraid, grinned: “Haha, you’re just as useless as you were back then!”
Mu Chen showed no emotion but handed Yi Hu a business card.
“Feel free to contact me anytime!”
One look at the card left Yi Hu in shock: “The most mysterious billionaire in City A… is you?”
His small business empire was nothing compared to Mu Chen!
Without a word, Mu Chen signaled the bodyguards again, and they restrained Yi Hu, dragging him away as he shouted: “Mu Chen, I don’t believe it… you must be lying!”
His screams faded into the distance, and the courtyard became peaceful again.
Upon hearing that Mu Chen was the mysterious billionaire, Hua’s mother collapsed with mixed emotions: relief at her newfound freedom and guilt towards her daughter.
“Shaoyi…”
But Shaoyi didn’t want to talk. She gave Mu Chen a complicated look before running out.
Mu Chen nodded at Hua’s mother before chasing after her.
“Shaoyi… Shaoyi!”
Not wanting to hear his voice, Shaoyi lowered her head and quickened her pace.
Mu Chen caught up to her, grabbing her hand: “Shaoyi, please, listen to me!”
Shaoyi didn’t resist. She looked up, her tear-streaked face startling him: “So… you know everything now, don’t you?”
Mu Chen’s voice cracked slightly: “Yes.”
He hugged her tightly, his voice trembling: “Shaoyi, I’m sorry. I was wrong not to trust you.”
Tears fell onto Mu Chen’s clothes, each drop like a piece of her shattered pride.
He knew everything…
She tried desperately to cover it up, just because she didn’t want him to know, and her pride didn’t allow her to show her weakness…Â
As the warm evening breeze blew, the fading sunset cast its soft glow over them.
In that moment, their embrace became the most beautiful scene against the setting sun.
