- Chapter 40 - Surprise After the Meetup
Mu Suru entered the classroom as usual, but she quickly noticed something had changed…
“Suru, do you want some chocolate?”
A girl with a high ponytail held out a box of chocolates, offering it to her.
Mu Suru politely declined, “Thank you.”
But it didn’t stop there. Soon, other classmates started greeting her as well:
“Suru, how about we walk home together after school?”
“Suru, I don’t understand some of the test questions. Could you help me?”
In an instant, she became the center of attention.
Mu Suru struggled to get away from them, but… she stared at the pile of snacks and chocolates on her desk, lost in thought.
Meng Chang’an rested his chin on his hand, watching the scene in front of him.
His phone buzzed constantly, and when he checked it, a smile crept across his face.
As he walked toward the classroom door, he answered the call.
By now, Xu Qiang had gotten used to this kind of behavior.
“Little Meng,” came a voice.
“Sister Pei, what’s up?”
Meng Chang’an leaned against the white wall, his dark eyes shining behind his black-rimmed glasses.
“I’ve been thinking about the meetup you suggested earlier, and I’ve decided we can do it.”
Gu Pei wiped her half-dry hair while browsing through her wardrobe, carefully selecting an outfit. Finally, she settled on a pair of light blue overalls with a white t-shirt underneath.
They had known each other for quite a while now, and after chatting, they realized they lived in the same city. That’s when little Meng suggested they meet in person.
Gu Pei had hesitated at first, but after some thought, she decided to go through with it.
Meng Chang’an suppressed a triumphant smile, “Then, Sister Pei, let’s meet tonight at the Quiet Café.”
“Alright.”
He gripped his phone tightly, his eyes glowing with excitement.
Sister Pei~ This plan is finally falling into place!
Mu Suru munched on some chips, fully absorbed in the movie playing on the big screen.
[Task issued: Teach the villain how to use chopsticks.]
Mu Suru smacked her lips and put down the chips, heading upstairs to find Ren Zai.
Ren Zai sat there staring at his bandaged hands, lost in thought.
The sound of knocking startled him, and he quickly stood up to open the door.
Mu Suru was wearing a slip dress, her snow-white collarbones gleaming seductively under the light.
Ren Zai blushed, “Sister, why are you here?”
Noticing that his bandages were loose, she asked, “Are your nails growing back?”
Ren Zai answered honestly, “They started itching a few days ago, which probably means they’re growing back. But now, there’s no movement. I’m not sure.”
Mu Suru had him sit down, then carefully cut away the tightly wrapped bandages with a pair of scissors.
As his fingers were slowly revealed, she saw the faint pink nails, still soft, as if they had just grown.
“Xiao Zai, let me teach you how to use chopsticks.”
Mu Suru took out a pair of jade chopsticks and handed them to Ren Zai, asking him to hold them.
He tilted his head and tried grabbing them with both hands, but she shook her head disapprovingly.
He then switched to using just one hand, but his grip was clumsy.
One chopstick ended up curving at such an odd angle that it nearly poked Mu Suru in the eye.
Rubbing her reddened eye, she took the chopsticks back and demonstrated how to use them.
“Look, when holding the chopsticks, you should grip the top third of the chopstick, with the pressure focused higher up to make it easier to use.”
Her delicate hand held the top end of the jade chopsticks as she explained.
Ren Zai’s focus was entirely on her hand.
Mu Suru didn’t notice, continuing, “Then, place your index finger on the outer side of the upper chopstick, pressing down so that the two chopsticks come together, allowing you to easily pick up food.”
She looked around, found a plate of yellow peaches, and slowly picked one up with the chopsticks, demonstrating the process so Ren Zai could see it clearly.
He nodded and took the chopsticks, carefully trying to pick up a peach.
Unfortunately, every time he managed to grab it, his hand would slip.
Ren Zai tried again, but this time, a small hand gently held his, guiding him through the motion.
The warmth of her touch lifted his spirits, and so, learning went on until nightfall.
Mu Suru, as usual, gave Ren Zai a goodnight kiss before leaving.

At the Quiet Café
Gu Pei lowered her hat, avoiding the admiring glances of passersby as she stepped into the warmly decorated café.
The crystal chandelier overhead sparkled with a warm yellow glow, and the soft, slow music made even the most anxious hearts feel at ease.
A server led her to a seat by the window.
Since she arrived half an hour early, Gu Pei ordered two lattes and waited patiently.
Before long, she noticed a familiar figure outside the window.
He was wearing a black gown with dress pants, and his soft mushroom haircut made his youthful face look even more innocent.
Isn’t that Meng Chang’an?
Gu Pei watched as he walked toward the café.
No way… could it be that coincidental?
Meng Chang’an checked his watch before pushing open the heavy glass door.
His slightly dazed eyes immediately locked onto the girl at Table 3.
Gu Pei took off her hat and fiddled with it.
“Are you… Sister Pei?”
His voice carried a hint of childishness, which made Gu Pei’s eyes light up.
It was little Meng’s voice. She looked up and found herself staring into a pair of dark eyes that, despite their innocent appearance, hid a wealth of secrets.
“Meng Chang’an? You… Meng Yi’an?”
Gu Pei was stunned that her guess had come true.
The situation quickly grew awkward, but just then, the server arrived with their coffee.
To cover her embarrassment, Gu Pei dumped several sugar cubes into her cup.
Seeing this, Meng Chang’an spoke up, “Sister Pei, don’t you dislike sweet things?”
Gu Pei, startled by his words, realized her mistake.
“Ahem, it’s fine.”
She forced herself to take a sip, but the overly sweet flavor spread across her tongue, making her feel nauseous. A glass of warm water was suddenly handed to her.
“Here, drink this.”
Not bothering with politeness, Gu Pei gulped it down, finally ridding herself of the sickly sweetness.
Watching Meng Chang’an calmly sip his coffee, she asked, “Little Meng, did you know it was me all along?”
From the beginning until now, Gu Pei hadn’t seen even a hint of surprise on Meng Chang’an’s face, almost as if he had known from the start.
He nodded, smiling, “Yep.”
Then, with a chuckle, he added, “Sister Pei, your voice was completely unchanged. I recognized it the first time I heard it.”
Gu Pei’s usually thick skin couldn’t help but flush red at this comment, “Ahem…”
Meng Chang’an noticed her embarrassment and quickly added, “Sister Pei, don’t worry. I genuinely admire you, and I sincerely want to be friends with you!”
Hearing this, Gu Pei felt touched, but she played it cool, “Friends? Nah, you’re too short to be my friend. How about you become my little bro? I’ll take care of you from now on!”
Meng Chang’an didn’t argue, “Alright, I’ll let you take care of me, Sister Pei!”
Her mood brightened, and she called the server over again, this time ordering several desserts: “Tiramisu, strawberry cake, and snow-topped mousse…”
Meng Chang’an’s scalp tingled, “Sister Pei, don’t you avoid sweets?”
Gu Pei handed the menu to the server, her eyes twinkling mischievously, “I never said I’d eat them!”
In the end, Meng Chang’an finished all the desserts, which were called “Happiness,” before parting ways with Gu Pei, clutching his full stomach.
