Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 7
The other end of the line was noisy, but Lin Qinghan’s voice came through clearly: “Shen Xian, take the child to my mother’s place first. Something came up here—I’ll come pick Tiantian up later.”
“Okay. What happened? Do you need me to come over?” Shen Xian could vaguely hear a man talking about borrowing money and felt uneasy.
“It’s nothing. Just take good care of Tiantian,” Lin Qinghan replied hastily before hanging up.
Still worried, Shen Xian picked up Tiantian. “Sweetheart, can Mommy take you to Grandma’s for now? Your mama has something to handle at work. I’ll go pick her up later, okay?”
Hearing her mama was in trouble, Tiantian obediently nodded. “Okay. I’ll wait patiently for Mama and Mommy.”
Shen Xian wasted no time and quickly dropped Tiantian off at home.
“What’s going on? You seem in such a rush,” Fang Jinglan asked, holding the child in her arms.
“Something happened on Qinghan’s end. I need to go over there right away—I’ll explain later.” Shen Xian dashed out, hailed a cab, and rushed to Renno Hospital where Lin Qinghan worked.
As expected, outside the hospital entrance, a man was grabbing at Lin Qinghan, speaking aggressively, with quite a few people watching. Only one man stood beside her, clearly trying to help.
Without a second thought, Shen Xian strode forward and yanked the man back several steps.
“Who the hell just pushed me?” the man barked. “Perfect timing. I was just thinking about getting someone to pay my medical bills.”
When he recognized Shen Xian, Lin Zhixin sneered. “Well, if it isn’t my ex-sister-in-law. You still have the nerve to meddle? You should know exactly why my sister divorced you. If you’ve got money to throw around, why not give it to me? Save me the trouble of asking my sister—or should I just go ask her new man?”
Lin Qinghan’s face turned cold. “Lin Zhixin, enough! I told you—I don’t have money for you. Stop coming to my workplace.”
“Come on, Sis, you’re still so charming. Your ex can’t let go, and your new guy’s all over you. A real double threat,” Lin Zhixin jeered.
“Don’t be ridiculous. Dr. Lu is just a colleague. I told you—there’s no money. Stop embarrassing me here,” Lin Qinghan said, trying to push him away but failing.
“Xiao Lin, this really isn’t right,” Lu Jianbai said gently, adjusting his glasses. “You’re in your twenties now—you can’t keep relying on your sister for money.”
“Well, look at you getting all self-righteous before even becoming my brother-in-law,” Lin Zhixin mocked. “Come on, everyone, take a look! If you want me to accept you as my sister’s man, fork over some cash.
Let’s see if you’re worthy.”
“Dr. Lu, just leave. I’ll handle this myself,” Lin Qinghan said wearily.
Nearby, two gossipy nurses couldn’t resist. “Who’d want to marry someone like Lin Qinghan anyway? She’s divorced and already has a three-year-old. No wonder she clings to Dr. Lu.”
“Exactly. I’ve never liked her,” the other nurse added.
Their voices weren’t loud, but Shen Xian heard every word. Her expression turned frosty as she snapped at the crowd, “If you’re not going to help, move along. This isn’t a circus. Do your jobs—this isn’t some palace drama.”
The nurses, Liu Wenwen and Zhao Qing, were visibly embarrassed. “Who wants to watch your messy family drama? Come on, Zhao Qing, let’s go get our nails done.”
“Yeah, this is so annoying,” Zhao Qing said, following her friend.
Once the bystanders had dispersed, Shen Xian turned her cold gaze on Lin Zhixin. “Get lost. As far away as possible. I haven’t even asked you for money, and you dare come begging me? You’ve got guts.”
“What’s wrong with asking my sister for money? It’s my right! Even if I go to my mom, she’d make my sister save up to get me a wife. If my ex sister-in-law and future brother-in-law won’t help, then I’ll raise hell.
Come look, everybody—my sister wants to starve me to death!”
He dropped to the ground, throwing a full-blown tantrum.
Shen Xian turned and saw Lin Qinghan’s eyes reddening with rage, fists clenched as she tried to hold back. She understood—Lin Zhixin knew Lin Qinghan cared about her image, so he used it to manipulate her.
This kind of person could only be dealt with by being more shameless than him.
Without hesitation, Shen Xian gave him a solid kick that left him stunned.
“You say I’m your sister-in-law? Great, then it’s my duty to teach you how to behave. Otherwise, you’re just a stray dog yapping at everyone.” Shen Xian cracked her knuckles. In her past life, she’d undergone extensive training. Coupled with her recent workouts, she was in much better shape now. And Lin Zhixin? He was the textbook definition of a bully—useless and cowardly.
“You dare hit me? I’ll call the police!”
“Please do. I was hoping you would. I’ve already recorded everything you said while throwing your tantrum. The police will be thrilled to meet you. This way, if you come harassing Qinghan again, she’ll have a proper record against you. Parasites like you deserve a criminal file.”
“You b1tch! You think you can lecture me?” He lunged at her, but Shen Xian easily twisted his wrist and tripped him, sending him tumbling.
Unwilling to admit defeat, he threw another punch. Shen Xian dodged effortlessly, pulled him by the arm, and sent him face-first to the ground again.
This time, bruised and panting, he tried to grab Lin Qinghan instead, but Shen Xian blocked his way and said coldly, “You want to talk? Talk to me. Stay away from her.”
“She’s my sister—what’s it to you?” he shouted, pointing a finger at Shen Xian.
She grabbed his finger and twisted it until he howled in pain.
“Watch your mouth, or I’ll help you wash it out,” she warned.
“Ow, ow! Sis! Sis! I don’t want the money anymore! Please, talk to her! She’s gonna break my finger! I’ll tell Mom if you don’t stop her!”
Shen Xian’s tone stayed calm, but her eyes were sharp. “Still threatening to tattle, huh? Doesn’t seem like it hurts enough.” She kicked him again. “Say it—are you coming back again or not?”
“No! I swear I won’t! Sis, my finger’s really gonna break—please, I was wrong! I won’t ask for money again!”
Lin Qinghan felt utterly drained. She lightly tapped Shen Xian’s shoulder and said with resignation, “That’s enough. Let him go.”
Shen Xian looked at her for a moment before finally letting go. “Next time I see you begging for money, I’ll hit you again,” she warned, glaring at Lin Zhixin.
He staggered away, muttering, “Just wait! You won’t give me money? Fine—I’ll get it from Mom. And I’ll tell her you’re fooling around with a bunch of lovers who beat me up!”
Then, afraid Shen Xian would strike again, he ran off.
What kind of hellish life is this? Shen Xian thought. That brother of hers was as disgusting as the original owner of her body.
She turned to Lin Qinghan gently. “Did he hurt you? Why didn’t you tell me on the phone? I could’ve come sooner.”
Lin Qinghan’s eyes were still a little red. She hadn’t expected Shen Xian to actually come. She’d braced herself to be dragged into a long, humiliating confrontation. Lin Zhixin had asked for money multiple times, and when she refused, even their mother berated her, saying she didn’t care about her brother’s well-being.
But did anyone care about her? Her ex-wife constantly asked her for money. Her daughter was still so young, and she was trying to save for her schooling. Every month, she sent money back to her parents—not that they used it for themselves. It either went toward her brother’s debts or was saved up for his marriage.
No one ever thought about her needs.
Now the whole hospital knew her brother was a deadbeat.
But just now, when that scumbag ex-wife of hers stood protectively in front of her, Lin Qinghan felt something stir in her chest. A fragile wall around her heart cracked—just for a second. Tears slipped silently down her cheeks.
Shen Xian quickly pulled out a tissue and gently dabbed her tears. “Don’t cry. He’s not worth it. If he dares show up again, I’ll beat him so badly his own mother won’t recognize him.”
Lin Qinghan glared at her, eyes still red, and snatched the tissue from Shen Xian’s hand, insisting with forced composure, “I’m not crying. Just dry eyes. Wind blew in.”
Shen Xian chuckled and played along. “Yes, the wind has been strong lately. It’s okay. Just wipe your eyes. If there’s nothing else, let’s head home. Tiantian’s still waiting for us.”
Lin Qinghan gave her a look, then nodded.
Shen Xian noticed her favorability score rise from -140 to -110 and couldn’t help the widening smile on her lips.
As they were about to ride off on the electric scooter, they finally noticed someone had been standing nearby the whole time.
They’d completely forgotten about Lu Jianbai.
