Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 8
“Alright, we’ll get going then,” Shen Xian nodded, offering a polite farewell to Lu Jianbai. As for the male lead of the original novel, Shen Xian didn’t have any particular impression of him yet. She wasn’t the type to blindly trust the original plot anyway—whether Lu Jianbai was a decent person or not would have to be judged over time.
Standing beside him, Lin Qinghan also spoke up. “I’m really sorry, Dr. Lu. You got dragged into this today.”
Lu Jianbai flashed a cheerful smile. “It’s no trouble. I’d help anyone if they were in that kind of situation. You two go ahead.”
Only after Lin Qinghan and Shen Xian had left did the smile on Lu Jianbai’s face fade. This hadn’t gone at all how he’d imagined. He was hoping to play the hero and win the beauty’s heart, but out of nowhere, Lin
Qinghan’s ex-wife had shown up and hijacked the whole moment. And wasn’t her ex supposed to be a notorious scumbag? Why had she seemed… surprisingly normal?
Lu Jianbai had developed feelings for Lin Qinghan ever since she started working at Renno Hospital. But because she was married, he kept a respectful distance. Now that she was divorced, he’d thought he might have a chance. But Lin Qinghan continued to treat everyone—including him—with the same polite professionalism. What’s more, she hadn’t even bothered to clean off her old mark, which left him feeling vaguely unsettled.
What he didn’t know was that Lin Qinghan hadn’t erased her permanent mark because it cost thirty thousand yuan—not only did she not have that kind of money, but after her experience with Shen Xian, she no longer had any desire to remarry. To her, whether the mark was there or not simply didn’t matter anymore.
Meanwhile, Shen Xian and Lin Qinghan had reached the electric scooter. As Lin Qinghan unlocked it, Shen Xian glanced at the floating digits above her head and saw they had changed to -110. She couldn’t help but breathe a quiet sigh of relief.
Just then, a mechanical voice rang out in her mind:
“Congratulations, Host, for successfully helping the female lead out of a difficult situation. Reward: 10,000 yuan. Keep up the good work and stay on track to fix the plot.”
Shen Xian’s lips curved into a subtle smile. Not a bad haul—she’d increased the female lead’s favorability and made 10K.
Lin Qinghan had already straddled the scooter. “What are you spacing out for? Let’s go.” She looked over her shoulder at Shen Xian.
“I’m coming.” Shen Xian swung her leg over and gingerly placed her hands around Lin Qinghan’s waist, careful not to overstep and lose the favorability she’d just gained.
Once Shen Xian had settled in, Lin Qinghan twisted the throttle and the scooter took off. Before long, they arrived at Fang Jinglan’s home.
A few knocks later, Fang Jinglan opened the door, smiling warmly at Lin Qinghan. She had always felt that her family owed this daughter-in-law more than they could repay.
“You’re back! Just in time—dinner’s ready. Go wash up and eat,” Fang Jinglan said, her face beaming.
“Thank you, Mom. Sorry for the trouble,” Lin Qinghan replied. Even after the divorce, she never changed how she addressed her.
As they chatted, a little blur rocketed toward Lin Qinghan. Shen Tian, like a tiny cannonball, flung herself into her mother’s leg, dimples twitching as she looked up with a wide grin.
“Tiantian missed Mama!” she said, her childish voice full of affection.
Lin Qinghan scooped her up with a gentle smile that Shen Xian had never seen on her before. “Mama missed Tiantian too. Were you a good girl and played nicely with Grandma?”
“Yes!” Tiantian nodded eagerly, her little pigtails bouncing.
“Good. Mama’s going to wash her hands, and then we’ll eat together.” She set Tiantian gently down on her little stool before heading to the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Fang Jinglan tugged Shen Xian aside and whispered, “What happened?”
“It’s nothing. Lin Zhixin showed up at Qinghan’s workplace to ask for money again. I handled it.”
“You and Qinghan… the two of you…” Fang Jinglan hesitated, casting a searching look at Shen Xian.
“Mom, don’t overthink it. I was just helping her out. There’s no way the two of us could get back together.” Shen Xian smiled bitterly. Given everything the original host had done, it was already a miracle Lin Qinghan hadn’t tried to kill her. Reconciliation? Not a chance. She needed to make that crystal clear to her mother.
“Alright, I won’t meddle in your business. Just don’t drag her down again,” Fang Jinglan sighed and went to the kitchen to serve the dishes.
Shen Xian gave a wry smile and followed her in.
Lin Qinghan also came in to help. In no time, the table was filled with dishes. Tiantian’s big eyes darted from one plate to another, her little pigtails bouncing with joy. There’s no child who doesn’t want both her moms by her side.
Shen Xian served Tiantian some shrimp. “You must be starving. Go on, eat up.”
Tiantian flashed a row of pearly baby teeth. “Mama and Mommy eat too!”
“Qinghan, eat more. You too, Tiantian.” Fang Jinglan smiled from start to finish.
Dinner was a warm and lively affair. Afterward, while Tiantian played in the living room, Shen Xian gathered the dishes and headed for the kitchen to wash up. But Fang Jinglan quickly stopped her. “It’s getting dark—go walk Qinghan and Tiantian home. I’ll take care of the dishes.”
So Shen Xian turned back to the living room. Lin Qinghan and Tiantian were nearly ready to go. Truth be told, given everything that had happened earlier, Shen Xian was still worried that Lin Zhixin might cause trouble again.
“Why don’t I walk you home? It’s already past eight. Just in case something happens…” she offered.
Lin Qinghan shot her a frosty look. The panic she’d felt earlier was long gone. Trouble? How many times had she been in trouble before, and when had Shen Xian ever been there for her or Tiantian? Now she suddenly wanted to play the good guy? Or was she scheming something again?
“No need. Tiantian and I are used to it. Thanks for today, though. We’ll be off now.” Her voice was flat, her gaze no different than if she were looking at a stranger.
Shen Xian could sense the chill and knew she couldn’t push too hard. The original host had hurt Lin Qinghan deeply—it would take more than one good deed to undo that.
“Alright. Take it slow on the way home.” She turned to Tiantian and gently patted her pigtails. “Mommy will come see you tomorrow.”
“Okay! Bye-bye Mommy! Bye Grandpa, Grandma!” Tiantian waved happily before taking her mother’s hand and walking out.
Just before they turned the corner, Shen Xian caught a glimpse of the floating number above Tiantian’s head—it had changed to 0.
After cleaning up, Shen Xian returned to her room, powered on her laptop, and checked on the latest trends in the stock and fund markets. A few small, promising startups had caught her eye—too bad she didn’t have the money to invest right now. She still had to keep grinding away at building favor with her “family.”
Meanwhile, when Lin Qinghan and Tiantian got home, they found someone sitting outside their door.
Tiantian’s eyes welled up in fear. “Mama… who is that?”
