Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 9
The man sitting outside was none other than Lin Zhixin—the same person Shen Xian had scolded not long ago. Lin Qinghan hadn’t expected her younger brother to shamelessly follow them all the way home.
Under the dim voice-activated corridor light, Lin Zhixin recognized the mother and child. He stood up lazily and called out with a smirk, “Sis, how come you’re back so late? Off meeting some new guy again? And why’d you bring the kid? What if she saw something she shouldn’t have? That could really mess her up, you know.”
“Watch your mouth, Lin Zhixin. There’s a child here,” Lin Qinghan snapped, shielding Shen Tian behind her. She hadn’t expected her brother to pull this stunt—he’d only ever knocked on her door before. But tonight, he’d actually waited outside for who knows how long. What did he want this time?
“Yeah, yeah, I get it. Tiantian, did you miss your uncle? It’s been what—over two weeks since I saw you? I really did miss you,” he said, reaching out to touch Shen Tian’s face.
Startled, Shen Tian immediately hid behind Lin Qinghan. Tears rolled down her cheeks like broken pearls, her whole body trembling.
“Mama… Tiantian’s scared. Don’t let Uncle come near,” she sobbed, stuttering through her tears.
“Lin Zhixin, that’s enough. What do you want this time?” Lin Qinghan’s voice trembled as she tried to calm her daughter, her eyes reddening.
Brushing dust off his clothes, Lin Zhixin shook his head and chuckled. “Nothing at all. Can’t a little brother drop by to see his sister? What, I’m not even allowed inside now? I’m your real brother. If you don’t let me in, I’ll just keep knocking. And I won’t stop at that—I’ll yell too. ‘Come on, everyone! Come see—big sister won’t even let her own brother in the house!’ Let’s see what the neighbors think!”
Just then, the door across the hall opened. A middle-aged woman with curlers in her hair poked her head out. “What’s with all the yelling? If you want to fight, do it inside. Do you know what time it is? People are trying to sleep!”
“Fine, we’ll talk inside,” Lin Qinghan muttered. She was still gently soothing the sobbing Shen Tian in her arms as she unlocked the door. If Lin Zhixin kept shouting, things would only get worse for both of them.
Completely shameless, Lin Zhixin crossed his arms and smirked as he waited for the door to open. “Told you—you had to let me in. I’ll tell Mom about this. You’ll be in for it.”
Lin Qinghan shot him a fierce glare. With a click, the security lock disengaged. Holding Shen Tian close, she stepped into the apartment, and Lin Zhixin followed right behind her like he owned the place.
Shen Tian’s face was streaked with tears. Ever since she was little, she had feared her grandma, uncle, and even Mama’s ex-wife when they came to visit—there was always shouting, always tears. They’d glare at her, handle her roughly, and always made her mama cry. She didn’t want Uncle in their home.
“Mama, I don’t want Uncle here. I’m scared,” Shen Tian sobbed into Lin Qinghan’s shoulder, trembling uncontrollably.
Lin Zhixin, completely unfazed, opened the fridge and immediately spotted the large bag of fruit Shen Xian had bought. Sharp-eyed, he zeroed in on the mangosteens—the most expensive of the bunch, going for about 20 yuan a pound around here. He pulled them out, plopped down on the couch, and started eating like he owned the place.
Shen Tian, still crying, saw her uncle eating the mangosteens bought by her mommy. Her sobs turned into wails.
“Waaah! Mama! Uncle’s eating the mangosteens Mommy bought for Tiantian! Waaah! Tiantian has no little moon fruits now!”
“There, there, sweetheart. Don’t cry. Mommy will buy more for you tomorrow. Don’t cry, okay?” Lin Qinghan tried to comfort her, keeping her voice calm despite the burning rage beneath the surface.
Then she turned to Lin Zhixin, her tone icy. “What exactly do you want? I gave you a thousand at the beginning of the month. Tiantian needs to go to kindergarten, and we need money to live. I really have nothing left to give you. Just go.”
“What do you mean, nothing left? You always give money to Mom when she asks, but not me? If you don’t cough it up today, then no one’s going to sleep. Isn’t that right, Tiantian?” he sneered and even tossed a crooked grin at the terrified little girl.
“Mama, I don’t want bad Uncle,” Shen Tian whimpered, curling up tighter in her mother’s arms.
“Lin Zhixin, are you seriously going to blackmail me now? Get out. I don’t care what Mom says next time—I’m done giving you money. You’ve all let me down too many times,” Lin Qinghan said, her eyes now red with tears of anger and frustration.
“Oh come on, Sis, why not just flirt a little with one of your boyfriends and get some money out of them? That Dr. Lu seems into you—why not take advantage of that and get me a brother-in-law with money? And what’s the deal with that Shen Xian anyway? She had the nerve to hit me?” Lin Zhixin muttered around a mouthful of mangosteen.
Lin Qinghan was so furious she wanted to scream at him, but with her child still crying in her arms, she decided to focus on calming Shen Tian first. She started carrying the little girl to the bedroom, but Lin Zhixin quickly stepped in front of her, blocking the way.
“Hey now, Sis, didn’t I say no one’s sleeping unless I get my money? Where do you think you’re going?” he said with a mocking grin.
“You’ve gone too far, Lin Zhixin! If you don’t get out, I’m calling the police,” Lin Qinghan said through clenched teeth, her voice shaking with rage. Shen Tian was still quietly sobbing in her arms.
“Go ahead. At most, they’ll say it’s a family dispute. I’ll get a warning, that’s it. You call the cops, I’ll call Mom. I’ll tell her you had me arrested, that you’re messing around, seducing people left and right, and still fooling around with Shen Xian. You know how much she spoils me—guess what she’ll say about all that?” Lin Zhixin sneered, still blocking the bedroom door.
Lin Qinghan had no choice. She carried Shen Tian back to the couch and gently laid her down, trying to calm her daughter. She was completely exhausted from the ordeal. Remembering what Shen Xian had told her earlier in the day, Lin Qinghan quietly pulled out her phone and called her.
While the phone rang, she looked at Lin Zhixin and said coldly, “So you’re not leaving unless you get money, huh?”
“Come on, Sis, we’re family. Of course you should help me. It’s not even that much—just thirty thousand yuan. I know you can afford it. If not, then we’ll just stay up all night and see who lasts longer. I don’t mind losing sleep… but I’m not so sure Tiantian can handle it,” he said as he popped another fruit into his mouth.
On the other end, Shen Xian could hear the shouting, even though no one had spoken directly into the phone. She quickly pieced things together—Lin Zhixin must have gone to Lin Qinghan’s place again.
Her brow furrowed, and without hesitation, she changed clothes, told Fang Jinglan she was heading out, and rushed out the door.
