Transmigrated Into an Ancient Famine Novel as a Scumbag Alpha (ABO, GL) - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Ye Qing was awakened by the cold. Her mind felt groggy. Just moments ago, she and her teammates were surrounded by a horde of zombies. She fought fiercely with a machete, but human strength was ultimately weak. They were quickly overwhelmed by the zombie tide, and Ye Qing lost consciousness.
She thought she must have been bitten by zombies, not even leaving bones behind, so why could she still feel cold?
Ye Qing reached up to rub her eyes. As the dizziness faded, she opened her eyes and looked at her surroundings. What she saw was an old, worn-out wooden bed.
Supporting herself to sit up, Ye Qing noticed she was wearing tattered ancient clothing. The quilt smelled of mold and was patched in many places.
Hadn’t she died in the zombie tide? Had she transmigrated?
Ye Qing hurriedly pulled down the front of her dress. When she saw the scar on her left shoulder, she let out a sigh of relief.
She didn’t know how she had become an ancient person, but thankfully, this body was still hers. The scar on her left shoulder was from her past life, when she was injured fighting over food. The wound had been deep, but fortunately, it was stitched up in time and treated with antibiotics. Otherwise, she would have died in the apocalypse long ago.
Ye Qing pulled her cotton-padded clothes tighter, but they weren’t warm enough, and she still felt cold.
She got up, put on her shoes, and began to inspect the room.
It was an old house. In one corner stood a shabby double-door wooden cabinet. In the center was a square wooden table flanked by two long benches. Other than that, the room was empty.
Ye Qing wanted to look in a mirror to see her face, but a quick glance around showed there was no mirror in the room.
She pushed open the door, and as soon as she did, a gust of cold wind hit her.
Wrapping her clothes tightly, she stepped into the courtyard. The yard was dilapidated. Except for the room she had just been in, which was barely habitable, the other rooms were in ruins, letting in drafts.
Ye Qing walked around the courtyard and found a water tank. Its surface was covered with a thick layer of frost. She picked up a stone from the yard and used it to break the ice.
Pushing the ice to one side, she leaned over to look at her reflection.
When she saw her face clearly, Ye Qing sighed in relief. She was quite satisfied with her appearance.
Her eyebrows and eyes had a cold, distant look, her nose was delicate, and when she smiled, she looked gentle and likable. It was a very attractive face.
Just as Ye Qing was quietly relieved, in one of the dilapidated rooms behind her:
Jiang Jinhuang held her younger sister, Jiang Jinyang, tightly in her arms. The two sisters shared a thin cotton quilt, and Jiang Jinyang couldn’t stop shivering in her sister’s embrace.
Jiang Jinyang’s small face was red from the cold, her body trembling. She buried her face in her sister’s arms and whispered shakily, “Sister, is she awake again? I heard noises. I’m scared.”
Jiang Jinhuang hugged the small figure tightly and soothed her softly, “Don’t worry. I’m here. I won’t let her touch you.”
She said this, but her own hands were trembling. After a moment, as if making up her mind, she fumbled around on the bed and grabbed a pair of scissors.
Yesterday, Ye Qing had gone out drinking with her shady friends. When she returned drunk, she suddenly said she wanted to sell Jiang Jinyang for money.
Ye Qing had fought with her over her sister, but fortunately, Ye Qing was too drunk to have any strength. Otherwise, Jiang Jinhuang shuddered to think what might have happened.
At this thought, Jiang Jinhuang gripped the scissors tighter. If Ye Qing insisted on selling her sister, she would have no choice but to take Ye Qing down with her.
Jiang Jinhuang’s eyes reddened as she held the trembling little figure in her arms.
She and her sister had never lived such a hard life. Especially in recent days, the famine here had grown worse. Just two days ago, their rice jar had completely run out. She and her sister hadn’t eaten in over a day.
Jiang Jinhuang felt her hands go weak. The hand gripping the scissors trembled from hunger. In her arms, the little one was still shaking, her stomach occasionally growling, a reminder that she hadn’t eaten in over a day.
Meanwhile, Ye Qing, standing in the courtyard, was hit by a cold wind, and her thoughts cleared up significantly. Just as she was feeling confused, a storyline from a book appeared in her mind.
The original owner of this body was also named Ye Qing, a local thug in ancient times. Due to a great drought in the north, Linzhou hadn’t seen rain in months. Crops had failed, and many people had starved to death. Large numbers of refugees from the north were fleeing south, with bandits and thieves running rampant.
Jiang Jinhuang and her sister, along with their mother, had been on their way to Linzhou to visit relatives when they encountered bandits. They were separated from their mother by the chaos of refugees. Jiang Jinhuang had no choice but to disguise herself and her sister by smearing dirt on their faces. After many hardships, they followed the refugees to Linzhou, only to learn that their maternal grandparents’ family had already fled south due to the famine.
With no one to rely on, Jiang Jinhuang and her sister were on the verge of starvation. That’s when they met Ye Qing. At first, Ye Qing seemed harmless and treated them decently.
Using the excuse that in chaotic times, a Kunze without a Qianyuan companion would be in danger, Ye Qing tricked Jiang Jinhuang into marrying her. But after the marriage, Ye Qing couldn’t keep up the act.
She tried several times to force Jiang Jinhuang to consummate the marriage, but Jiang Jinhuang resisted with threats of death. After that, Ye Qing revealed her true nature. Not only did she stop providing food for the sisters, but she also frequently beat and scolded Jiang Jinhuang.
These days, Jiang Jinhuang bore many injuries. Once a pampered young lady, she now had to wash clothes in icy water during the harsh winter, her hands red and cracked from the cold. Her sister often cried quietly from hunger but didn’t dare tell her.
Far from helping them, the Ye Qing in the book bullied them even more. On their journey south, the original Ye Qing treated Jiang Jinhuang like a servant.
Fortunately, Jiang Jinhuang was resilient. After several attempts, she finally escaped the original Ye Qing. She and her sister made their way back to the capital after many hardships.
The first thing Jiang Jinhuang did upon returning home was to send people to capture the original Ye Qing. Her childhood friend also sent many men to help. In the end, the original Ye Qing was beaten to death and dumped in a mass grave outside the capital.
After reading the rough plot of the book, Ye Qing decided it was best to stay far away from the Jiang sisters. She had just been given a new chance at life. Though this world was suffering from famine, compared to the apocalypse, it was practically paradise. She wanted to live well.
Thinking of this, Ye Qing recalled her ability from her past life. She was a spatial ability user, able to store supplies in her space, where they remained unchanged from when they were put in.
She quickly tried to sense her space and, to her surprise, succeeded. Unlike her previous life’s space, this one was vast, with endless black soil and a large spiritual spring.
After connecting with the space, it felt as if she had entered it.
Stepping on the soft black soil and looking at the clear spiritual spring before her, Ye Qing was momentarily confused by the situation.
Just then, a mechanical voice sounded in her mind: “Welcome, host, to the Famine Escape System. I am System 09. I will serve you from now on.”
Ye Qing wasn’t surprised by the sudden voice in her head. After surviving the apocalypse, nothing seemed impossible.
She asked directly, “What’s going on? Why has my space changed like this?”
“The Main God System detected a 99% similarity between you and this world’s Ye Qing, whose lifespan had ended. So, it brought you here to take her place. Don’t panic, host. I’ve upgraded your space. It now contains high-quality black soil and a natural spiritual spring. Plant seeds in the black soil, and they’ll mature in just a few days. The spiritual spring is beneficial to the body, and fish placed in it will grow fat and large.”
The system’s mechanical voice echoed in her mind. After a moment’s thought, Ye Qing realized this was the system’s cheat for her. This space was definitely a great asset.
Now, as long as she stayed away from the Jiang sisters, she could live well in this world with her space and the system. Having survived the apocalypse, nothing was more important to Ye Qing than staying alive.
The system seemed to sense her thoughts and quickly said, “Host, it’s best not to leave the female lead, Jiang Jinhuang. She is this world’s Daughter of the Plane. You must raise her favorability to 100% within two years, or you will die on the spot. Additionally, the female lead’s favorability can be exchanged for seeds and other supplies.”
Ye Qing’s expression turned odd. She asked, “What’s Jiang Jinhuang’s favorability toward me right now?”
“Please wait, host. After checking, the female lead’s favorability toward you is currently -150,” the system’s cold mechanical voice replied.
Ye Qing’s vision darkened, her heart sinking. With that favorability, life felt hopeless.
Sensing her thoughts, the system comforted her, “Given the special circumstances and the female lead’s extremely low favorability, you must work hard to have a chance of maxing out her favorability within two years.”
“What about the space’s soil and spring? Can I use them freely?”
“Yes, host. The seeds can be planted in the space’s soil, and they’ll mature in a few days,” the system explained.
Ye Qing felt slightly reassured. Coming back to her senses, she realized she was still freezing in the courtyard.
After talking with the system for a while and gaining some useful information, she knew her main task was to survive and, along the way, try to raise the female lead’s favorability to see if she could get useful supplies.
With that in mind, she began searching the courtyard. She remembered that Jiang Jinhuang and her sister were also living here, so she needed to find them first.
Ye Qing pushed open the doors one by one to look for them. Inside one of the rooms, Jiang Jinhuang gripped her scissors tightly, her eyes reddening as she listened to the noises outside.
