Transmigrated Into an Ancient Famine Novel as a Scumbag Alpha (ABO, GL) - Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Hearing Jiang Jinhuang call her, Ye Qing turned to look at Jiang Jinhuang. “What’s wrong?”
“Thank you, and you’ve been busy all day. Let me cook dinner,” Jiang Jinhuang said, thanking Ye Qing.
“No need, you stay with Yangyang.” Ye Qing walked out of the room as she spoke.
Jiang Jinhuang pursed her lips. These past two days, she hadn’t done anything, and she was afraid Ye Qing would think she was useless and abandon her and Yangyang.
Ye Qing didn’t know what she was thinking and went straight to the kitchen. The rice they had found earlier was all gone, and only two bowls of corn kernels remained. There was just one cabbage left and five potatoes. Without any staple food, they had to treat the potatoes as the main meal. With this in mind, Ye Qing started to light the fire.
She used a flint to ignite the stove, added some firewood, and poured half a bowl of corn kernels into the pot with some water. She planned to cook a pot of corn porridge and steam the five potatoes. For now, the goal was to fill their stomachs for this meal.
Thinking this, Ye Qing placed a steamer rack over the pot, washed the potatoes, and put them on to steam. Then she covered the pot.
Soon, the potatoes were cooked. Ye Qing took them out, placed them in a large bowl to cool, and then served three bowls of the porridge.
This plain, watery meal was lunch for the three of them today.
As usual, Ye Qing carried two bowls of porridge over first. Jiang Jinhuang quickly got up to follow her. “I’ll help you carry them.”
Ye Qing didn’t stop her. “Okay.”
They returned to the kitchen together, and Ye Qing handed Jiang Jinhuang the bowl of potatoes. “You take this.”
She picked up the last bowl of corn porridge herself.
When Ye Qing entered the room with the bowl, she saw the little one staring eagerly at the table. The child was probably hungry, as it was already past noon, but she didn’t dare ask for food, just obediently watching Ye Qing and Jiang Jinhuang.
Ye Qing smiled at the little one. “Yangyang, come eat.”
“Okay, thank you, Sister Ye,” the little one said, her eyes lighting up at the mention of her share.
Jiang Jinhuang lifted her onto her lap, fed her two spoonfuls of corn porridge, and then glanced at the bowl of potatoes. There were only five—would Ye Qing share them with her and Yangyang?
Ye Qing took a few sips of the hot porridge. She hadn’t rested all day. Seeing Jiang Jinhuang not touching the potatoes, Ye Qing thought the young lady might not know how to eat them and said, “These are potatoes. We’re almost out of food, and you might not be used to this, but there’s no other way. Peel the skin and make do.”
“Okay.” Jiang Jinhuang nodded quickly, peeled the potato skin, and fed a piece to the little one.
The little one took a bite. The potato was soft and warm, just the right temperature. Her eyes sparkled. “It’s good!”
She exclaimed but shrank back a bit when she saw Ye Qing, still a little scared.
Jiang Jinhuang looked at the remaining potatoes and said, “I’ll just have the corn porridge. Save the potatoes for you and Yangyang.”
Ye Qing frowned. “That won’t do. It’s so cold now, and not eating enough can make you sick. Don’t worry about dinner. I’ll go out after this to look for more food.”
Jiang Jinhuang gripped the potato tightly. Earlier, when Ye Qing was out, those bad people had broken in. But she also knew Ye Qing was handling important matters. If Ye Qing didn’t go out, the three of them would truly starve.
“Okay, but it’s chaotic outside. You must come back before dark,” Jiang Jinhuang said, looking at Ye Qing.
Ye Qing nodded. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
With that, Ye Qing started eating her potatoes.
The little one finished one potato and drank all her porridge.
Seeing the little one was full, Jiang Jinhuang set her down. “Yangyang, play by yourself for a bit. Sister needs to eat.”
“Okay, I’ll be good,” the little one said, now full of energy, though her bottom still hurt a bit.
Jiang Jinhuang peeled a potato for herself and sipped her corn porridge.
Ye Qing had already finished two potatoes and her large bowl of porridge.
She glanced at Jiang Jinhuang, who was eating the potato slowly. Her posture was perfect, her back straight, and even eating such simple food, she looked refined and pleasing to the eye.
But Ye Qing only looked casually. She never put much thought into feelings.
Having survived over a decade in an apocalypse, staying alive was already a feat. Thinking about emotions was simply laughable.
Jiang Jinhuang noticed Ye Qing watching her. She usually hated Qianyuan’s gazes, but remembering yesterday, her red lips pressed tightly together.
She had promised Ye Qing that if Ye Qing saved her sister, she would consummate their relationship. Ye Qing hadn’t touched her last night or today, but she had indeed saved her and her sister, and Jiang Jinhuang had nothing to repay her with.
The most valuable thing she had left was probably her body. So be it—she owed Ye Qing twice already. If Ye Qing wanted it, she could have it.
With that thought, Jiang Jinhuang looked at Ye Qing. Unable to say those words, she only asked, “Do we need to bathe tonight?”
Ye Qing was taken aback and shook her head. It was so cold, and they didn’t need to bathe every day. Besides, boiling water was a hassle, and given their situation, there was no need to be so particular.
“Didn’t we bathe last night? No need to do it every day, right?” Ye Qing said honestly.
Jiang Jinhuang nodded. Though it was hard to accept consummating without bathing, Ye Qing had a point—it was too cold to bother.
“Okay, then come back early,” Jiang Jinhuang said, eating only one potato and leaving one in case Yangyang got hungry.
Ye Qing noticed the remaining potato. “Why aren’t you eating?”
“I want to save it in case Yangyang gets hungry…”
“Eat until you’re full first. Don’t worry, I won’t let you go hungry tonight.” Ye Qing picked up the potato and handed it to Jiang Jinhuang. “Eat.”
Jiang Jinhuang hadn’t eaten enough. She and her sister had been eating irregularly, and one potato with a bowl of porridge wasn’t enough for an adult. Seeing Ye Qing insist, Jiang Jinhuang took the potato and ate it slowly.
The little one played while secretly listening to Ye Qing and her sister. She had sneaked a glance earlier and noticed Sister Ye didn’t seem as scary anymore. She wasn’t harsh with her sister during the meal or conversation.
Ye Qing didn’t notice the little one. After Jiang Jinhuang finished eating, she said, “Come on, lock the gate. Same rule—don’t open the door for anyone unless I call you.”
“I know,” Jiang Jinhuang replied.
They left the room one after the other. As Ye Qing stepped out of the courtyard, Jiang Jinhuang called after her, “Ye Qing, be careful and come back soon.”
Ye Qing turned and nodded. “Lock the gate and go back inside.”
With that, Ye Qing left. It was already past 3 p.m., and winter days grew dark quickly. She could only stay out for an hour at most before returning.
Not daring to waste time, Ye Qing hurried toward the street.
