Transmigrated Into an Ancient Famine Novel as a Scumbag Alpha (ABO, GL) - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Ye Qing took a small bowl and picked a piece of fish from the belly, carefully removing the bones. Children weren’t skilled at eating fish, so adults had to meticulously debone it to avoid any danger.
She chose a piece near the fish head, where the meat was substantial with fewer bones, but she still checked carefully. After deboning, she poured two spoonfuls of fish broth over the meat and placed the bowl near Jiang Jinhuang.
“For Yangyang. I’ve checked for bones, but just to be safe, go over it again,” Ye Qing said, looking at Jiang Jinhuang.
“Okay.” Jiang Jinhuang nodded, seeing her sister’s eager expression, a faint smile finally appearing on her face.
The little one had been secretly watching Ye Qing. Seeing her debone the fish, she envied the meat in the small bowl, wanting to try it but not daring to ask. She feared Ye Qing would get angry and withhold food, let alone fish.
Hearing that the large piece of fish was for her, the little one’s eyes lit up. She gave Ye Qing a sweet smile. “Thank you, Sister Ye. You’re so nice.”
Ye Qing smiled helplessly at the sweet-talking little one, finding her quite charming.
She brought her bowl to the fish basin, ladling plenty of broth onto her rice, then took the fish head. One fish for three people wasn’t entirely satisfying, but it was fresh meat nonetheless.
Ye Qing ate her rice while gnawing on the fish head. Jiang Jinhuang rechecked the fish meat, ensuring no bones remained, then spooned some for the little one, cautioning, “I checked for bones, but be careful. If you feel anything in the meat, spit it out.”
“I know, Sister. I want to eat,” the little one said, practically drooling, mouth open for her sister to feed her.
Amused by her eagerness, Jiang Jinhuang fed her the fish. The little one happily chewed, having forgotten the taste of meat after so long.
Jiang Jinhuang cautiously gave her another piece of egg. Seeing Ye Qing didn’t mind, she grew bolder.
In the end, the little one ate a piece of fish, a small bowl of rice, two large pieces of egg, and some cabbage. Full, she was set down by Jiang Jinhuang.
Seeing Jiang Jinhuang hadn’t touched the fish, Ye Qing said, “Eat some fish. Eat more today—we might leave tomorrow.”
“Okay.” Jiang Jinhuang nodded, reaching for the fish tail. She hadn’t done anything today or helped Ye Qing.
Ye Qing noticed and blocked the fish tail with her chopsticks, stopping her. Jiang Jinhuang froze, thinking Ye Qing regretted sharing. As she was about to put her chopsticks down, Ye Qing stood, took her bowl, and piled it with the fattiest part of the fish belly.
“Want broth?” Ye Qing asked.
Jiang Jinhuang hadn’t expected Ye Qing to give her such a large piece. “I can’t eat that much. You barely have any left—eat it yourself.”
Ye Qing ignored her. After going so long without enough food, no one couldn’t eat more. She ladled several spoonfuls of fish broth onto Jiang Jinhuang’s rice and returned the bowl.
“Eat properly. I still have some,” Ye Qing said with a smile, then took the fish roe, swim bladder, and fat for herself.
Some people didn’t eat fish offal, but Ye Qing loved it, preferring it over the meat.
She ate heartily. Seeing Ye Qing genuinely wanted her to eat, Jiang Jinhuang started using her chopsticks.
The fish was tender, flavored with liquor and ginger, free of any fishy taste. Mixed with the broth-soaked rice, Jiang Jinhuang ate eagerly.
Though she kept her back straight, her chopsticks moved faster than usual. Having not eaten fish in so long, the meat tasted exceptional, better than the delicacies she’d had at home.
Ye Qing ate with gusto too, finishing the fish head and mixing the offal with her rice.
One bowl wasn’t enough, so she served herself another, then asked Jiang Jinhuang, “Want more?”
Jiang Jinhuang had nearly finished her rice. Seeing Ye Qing genuinely asking, she nodded and held out her bowl.
Ye Qing’s lips curved slightly. She scooped the remaining rice—about half a bowl—into Jiang Jinhuang’s bowl. After so long without enough food, this wouldn’t be too much.
“Thank you,” Jiang Jinhuang said, sitting with her bowl, sneaking glances at Ye Qing.
Ye Qing knew Jiang Jinhuang was watching her but didn’t mind. She was different from the original owner, so suspicion was natural. Jiang Jinhuang’s distrust was expected.
Ye Qing mixed some fish broth with her rice and ate the fish tail. In times like these, no meat could be wasted.
She glanced at Jiang Jinhuang’s bowl. The fish belly was gone, but she hadn’t touched the eggs much. Ye Qing picked up a large piece of egg and placed it in her bowl. “Eat more. We need strength for the road tomorrow.”
“Okay.” Jiang Jinhuang nodded, glancing at Ye Qing, who was eating broth-soaked rice with relish.
Jiang Jinhuang added some broth to her bowl too. After so long without meat, even the broth tasted extraordinary.
Ye Qing felt the same, though she didn’t show it. She could cry from happiness. In the apocalypse, she ate disgusting things like locust cakes and rarely saw green vegetables. This meal was pure bliss.
In the end, Ye Qing and Jiang Jinhuang ate every bit of the cabbage and eggs, leaving nothing on the table.
Satisfied, Ye Qing exhaled and stood to clear the dishes, but Jiang Jinhuang beat her to it.
“I’ll do it. I haven’t done anything today. You rest,” Jiang Jinhuang said. She disliked owing others, and though she and her sister relied on Ye Qing, she wanted to do what she could.
Ye Qing was indeed tired. She nodded. “Alright, I won’t fight you for it.”
She sat to rest, watching Jiang Jinhuang clear the dishes.
Jiang Jinhuang’s movements were practiced, clearly not her first time. The original owner must have forced her to do such tasks often, explaining the -150 favorability.
Ye Qing sighed. If only Jiang Jinhuang didn’t dislike her so much, she could earn more favorability for food.
As Ye Qing’s thoughts wandered, Jiang Jinhuang carried the dishes out, leaving only Ye Qing and the little one in the room.
Ye Qing looked at the little one standing on the floor. Seeing Ye Qing’s gaze, the little one stepped back, her round eyes looking at Ye Qing innocently.
Ye Qing chuckled. She wasn’t a wolf—why was even the little one so scared of her?
