Transmigrated Into an Ancient Famine Novel as a Scumbag Alpha (ABO, GL) - Chapter 36
Chapter 36
Hearing her sister’s agreement, Jiang Jinhuang sighed in relief. There was no way she’d do something like that.
The little one didn’t understand her sister’s thoughts. If her sister told her not to say anything, she wouldn’t. But she could secretly ask Sister Ye. Thinking this, her big eyes darted cleverly.
Ye Qing was starving. She quickly chopped some branches and carried them back.
She tossed the branches aside, added a few to the fire, and then took out a pot and bowls to prepare food.
She pretended to take half a bowl of rice from the cart, along with three salted duck eggs, planning to make porridge.
After thinking, Ye Qing checked the cabbages in her space. They were growing fast on the black soil and would be ready to eat in a few days.
With a large bowl and the duck eggs, Ye Qing went to the fire. She took out a clay pot, put the rice in, rinsed it with water from the gourd, added more water, covered it, and set it on the fire to cook.
Seeing Ye Qing return, the little one ran to her side with her short legs, “Sister Ye, what are we eating?”
Seeing the little glutton, Ye Qing smiled, “Rice and salted duck egg porridge. It’ll take a while to cook. Want some jerky to tide you over?”
“Yes!” The little one nodded eagerly.
Ye Qing laughed, pinched her cheek, and went to the cart to get jerky.
She handed a piece to the little one and took two more. Walking to Jiang Jinhuang, she offered one, “Here, eat this to hold you over. The porridge needs a bit.”
“Okay,” Jiang Jinhuang replied, her gaze sneaking to Ye Qing’s neck. The tooth marks on Ye Qing’s bonding mark were still faintly visible, the swelling not fully gone.
She glanced quickly and looked away, not daring to look again. She hurriedly chewed the jerky, pretending to be busy.
Ye Qing thought she was hungry and didn’t say much. She ate her jerky while tending the fire.
The little one squatted beside Ye Qing, munching jerky and watching the steaming clay pot.
She ate while smelling the rice aroma, her eyes squinting, “Smells so good.”
Ye Qing laughed at the little glutton, “I’ll serve you extra so our little glutton gets nice and full, okay?”
“Hehe, yes!” The little one was thrilled.
Though Jiang Jinhuang was sitting, her heat period left her listless.
Eating jerky and watching Ye Qing with her sister, she noticed their bond had grown. Her sister relied on Ye Qing a lot. Jiang Jinhuang wasn’t sure if that was good or bad.
After a few bites, her mouth felt dry, and she wanted water. She propped herself up to get it.
Ye Qing noticed and hurried over, “What’s wrong? Feeling bad again?”
Jiang Jinhuang glanced at Ye Qing, her ears red as she shook her head, “No, I want water.”
“Stay put, I’ll get it,” Ye Qing said, helping Jiang Jinhuang sit properly before grabbing the water gourd from the cart.
Ye Qing returned, unscrewed the cap, and handed it over.
Jiang Jinhuang drank a few sips, feeling better, and returned the gourd, “Thanks.”
“No need. You’re weak these days. Call me if you need anything. Don’t move around,” Ye Qing instructed.
Jiang Jinhuang nodded slightly, thinking about their days in the cave with no nearby water source. She grew worried.
After considering, she voiced her concern, “Do we have enough water? There’s no source nearby. Will the water in our gourds last?”
Ye Qing smiled, “Don’t worry. I found a water source a bit farther out. It’s enough for these days. Focus on resting. I’ve got this.”
Relieved, Jiang Jinhuang said, “Good.”
Ye Qing smiled, “I’m going to check the pot. Call me if you need anything. Don’t be shy.”
“Okay.”
Seeing her agree, Ye Qing walked back to the fire, amused. Jiang Jinhuang was polite when clear-headed, unlike last night when she bit her without hesitation. But Ye Qing didn’t bring it up.
She knew Jiang Jinhuang, a noble lady, needed to save face.
Back at the fire, Ye Qing smelled the rich rice aroma. Using a rag, she opened the clay pot’s lid and peeled the salted duck eggs.
She put the peeled eggs into the porridge, mashed them with a wooden spoon, and the oily yolks mixed with the rice, making the aroma even stronger.
The little one cheered, clapping her hands excitedly, “Wow, smells amazing.”
Ye Qing’s eyes crinkled. She scooped a bit of porridge, blew on it, and held the spoon to Jiang Jinyang’s lips, “Try it. Is it good?”
The little one opened her mouth wide. The rice’s aroma mixed with the salted duck egg filled her senses. With three eggs in the pot, the porridge had a light salty flavor, just enough to keep it from being bland.
The little one nodded eagerly, “So yummy. Sister Ye, you’re such a good cook.”
After tasting, she didn’t forget to boost Ye Qing’s ego with flattery.
Ye Qing laughed, “Good, as long as our little glutton likes it. It’s almost ready. I’ll serve you a bowl.”
“Yay, yay!” The little one clapped excitedly, eyeing the porridge.
Ye Qing grabbed the little one’s special bowl, filled it, and placed it on a nearby stump, just right for her to reach without burning herself.
“It’s hot. Blow on it a lot before drinking,” Ye Qing warned.
“Okay,” the little one nodded, skilled with a spoon though not with chopsticks.
After settling the little one, Ye Qing served a bowl for Jiang Jinhuang, “Careful, it’s hot.”
Jiang Jinhuang took the bowl, looked at Ye Qing, and said, “Thanks.”
“No problem. Eat up.”
Ye Qing returned to the fire, served herself a bowl, and ate heartily.
After breakfast, Jiang Jinhuang lay down again. Her heat period left her tired after sitting for a while.
Seeing her condition seemed stable, Ye Qing didn’t transfer more scent. Instead, she sat by the fire with the little one, warming up and playing.
With her sister asleep, the little one’s eyes darted. She motioned for Ye Qing to lean in, wanting to whisper.
Ye Qing found her amusing and bent down, curious what the little one wanted to say.
The little one cupped her hands around Ye Qing’s ear and whispered, “Did my sister bite you last night?”
Ye Qing straightened, surprised. She glanced at Jiang Jinhuang, ensuring she was asleep, then whispered, “Didn’t your sister tell you not to look?”
“Hehe, I couldn’t sleep, so I peeked,” the little one said, nuzzling Ye Qing’s arm cutely.
She continued, “Sister Ye, why do you and Sister keep biting each other? Doesn’t it hurt?”
Ye Qing was stumped. She couldn’t explain heat periods to a child. “It’s grown-up stuff. You’re little. You’ll understand when you’re older.”
“I’m not little! You and Sister clearly like biting each other, hmph,” the little one said proudly, as if she’d uncovered a secret.
Ye Qing laughed, exasperated. The tiny thing was good at spreading rumors.
She tapped Jiang Jinyang’s nose lightly, whispering, “Don’t talk nonsense, got it? I was helping your sister, not biting her on purpose. You can’t spread that around, or people will misunderstand.”
The little one tilted her head, smiling innocently at Ye Qing, nodding halfheartedly before hopping off to play in the cave.
Ye Qing pulled her back, suspecting the little one’s sweet exterior hid a mischievous core. “Yangyang, I’m serious. You can’t rumor about us. That’s not what good kids do.”
“Okay, I’m good,” the little one said, looking obedient.
Ye Qing relaxed slightly, patted her head, and smiled, “Go play.”
“Yay!” The little one happily picked up pebbles from the cave floor, arranging them into shapes, playing contentedly by herself.
Ye Qing didn’t get the little one’s world. She stayed by the fire, occasionally adding branches.
Near noon, Jiang Jinhuang fell unconscious again, sweating profusely, as if pulled from water.
Thanks to Ye Qing’s vigilance, checking on her every half hour, she noticed the change.
Ye Qing grabbed a cloth, wiped the sweat from Jiang Jinhuang’s face and neck, pinched her left thigh, and leaned in to bite, slowly transferring her scent.
The second day was noticeably better than the first. Ye Qing used less scent.
Seeing Jiang Jinhuang more comfortable, Ye Qing pulled back, though her sleeve was still clutched.
Ye Qing simply held her, letting Jiang Jinhuang rest against her.
As she settled, she met the little one’s eyes. The little one smiled, tugging her buns, glancing between Ye Qing and her sister.
The little one seemed to think of something fun, rolling happily on her blanket.
Ye Qing sighed, wondering what the little rascal was delighted about now.
The person in her arms cooled down. Seeing she was fine, Ye Qing relaxed, planning to lay Jiang Jinhuang down and chop more branches. But Jiang Jinhuang gripped her clothes tightly, so Ye Qing waited for her to wake.
After the time it takes an incense stick to burn, Jiang Jinhuang stirred. Even with her eyes closed, she felt the warmth behind her and knew it was Ye Qing holding her.
She sighed. The old her would’ve panicked at being held like this, but now she felt oddly safe. The thought startled her.
She quickly reasoned it out. Having formed a temporary bond, a Kunze would naturally depend on a Qianyuan. Once her heat period ended, she wouldn’t feel this way.
Opening her eyes, she saw Ye Qing holding her, her hands clutching Ye Qing’s clothes. She let go quickly, “Sorry to trouble you. Did I pass out again?”
Ye Qing nodded, “Yeah, but you’re much better than yesterday.”
She didn’t dare say the rest—Jiang Jinhuang hadn’t bitten her today, which was an improvement.
