Transmigrated Into an Ancient Famine Novel as a Scumbag Alpha (ABO, GL) - Chapter 82
Chapter 82
Five days passed. Ye Qing’s wound had nearly healed. Early in the morning, she went out and asked the inn staff to prepare bathwater. She felt she’d mold if she didn’t bathe soon.
Jiang Jinhuang heard noise from Ye Qing’s room. She opened her door to check what Ye Qing was doing. Seeing Ye Qing instruct the worker to prepare bathwater, Jiang Jinhuang felt uneasy.
“Is your wound really fully healed?” Jiang Jinhuang asked cautiously.
“Yes, yes,” Ye Qing replied eagerly. “I removed the bandage earlier. It’s completely healed.” She truly felt she’d die if she didn’t bathe.
Jiang Jinhuang pursed her lips. She turned to the little one and instructed, “Yangyang, stay here obediently. I’ll be right back.”
“Okay,” the little white ball nodded immediately.
Jiang Jinhuang approached Ye Qing. Ye Qing, confused, asked, “What’s up?”
“I want to check your wound again,” Jiang Jinhuang said firmly. “I’m still worried.” She pulled Ye Qing back to her room.
Jiang Jinhuang raised an eyebrow at Ye Qing. “Take it off,” she said.
“What? That’s not okay, is it?” Ye Qing muttered softly. Jiang Jinhuang glared at her.
Ye Qing thought for a moment. She undid her belt and removed her outer dress. She even took off her undergarment, revealing the wound.
Jiang Jinhuang leaned closer. She touched Ye Qing’s wound gently. Perhaps because Ye Qing drank spiritual spring water, the ten-centimeter wound had faded significantly. Only a faint pink line remained visible.
Jiang Jinhuang examined it for a while. She confirmed Ye Qing’s wound was healed. Then, she looked up at Ye Qing and noticed her ears were bright red.
Ye Qing coughed lightly, feeling uneasy. She pulled up her undergarment. “Can I bathe now?” she asked hopefully.
Jiang Jinhuang nodded. “Yes, you can,” she said. “I’ll leave now. After you bathe, we’ll look for a house.”
“Okay,” Ye Qing replied, nodding quickly.
They didn’t plan to leave soon. Staying at the inn long-term wasn’t practical. Ye Qing wanted to rent a courtyard for better privacy.
Soon, the bathwater was ready. Ye Qing gave the staff some coins as a tip. Then, she dismissed them.
She bathed comfortably and washed her hair. Afterward, she changed into a clean dress.
When her hair was nearly dry, Ye Qing knocked on Jiang Jinhuang’s door. “Jinhuang, let’s go look at houses,” she called.
“Okay,” Jiang Jinhuang replied. She put a hat on the little one and led her out.
Ye Qing had called Song Zhao. The group headed downstairs together.
A few days ago, Ye Qing found a shop that rented and sold houses, similar to a modern real estate agency. The owner, a sharp-looking female Qianyuan in her twenties, seemed capable.
Ye Qing’s group went straight to her shop. “Boss Wu, remember me?” Ye Qing asked. “I’m the one who wanted to rent a courtyard.”
“I remember, I remember,” Boss Wu said warmly. “Yesterday, someone registered a few courtyards with me. They left the keys. Follow me.”
Boss Wu locked her shop. She led Ye Qing’s group to a nearby courtyard.
“This courtyard has the best location,” Boss Wu said, pointing. “It’s right by the street. Restaurants and shops are just outside. But it’s pricier—two taels of silver a month.” She unlocked the courtyard door with a key.
“Look,” Boss Wu said patiently. “The courtyard has a well, so you don’t need to fetch water outside. There are three main rooms, including a front hall, two side rooms, a kitchen, and a storage room. There’s also a small yard where kids can play.”
Ye Qing nodded. “Let’s see the rooms,” she said.
“Go ahead,” Boss Wu replied, smiling. “The rooms aren’t locked. Just push the doors open.”
Ye Qing opened a door. She saw the room had a wardrobe, bed, table, and even a basin. They only needed to buy daily bedding to move in.
Ye Qing checked the kitchen. Pots and bowls were still there. They just needed to buy everyday items.
Ye Qing felt satisfied. The well saved a lot of trouble.
Boss Wu smiled and asked, “What do you think? Satisfied? I have other courtyards, but none are as good. They don’t have wells, so you’d need to fetch water from the street.”
Ye Qing looked at Jiang Jinhuang. “What do you think?” she asked.
Jiang Jinhuang nodded. “It’s nice,” she said. “It’s convenient for shopping. Let’s take this one.”
“Okay, we’ll follow you,” Ye Qing said, smiling. “Boss Wu, we’ll take this one. No need to see others.”
Boss Wu smiled at them. She teased Ye Qing, “Didn’t expect your wife to call the shots? I should’ve asked her directly.”
Ye Qing laughed awkwardly. She paid two months’ rent, one tael as a broker fee, and two taels as a deposit.
Ye Qing and Boss Wu returned to the shop. They signed a contract. After getting the contract, Ye Qing went back to the courtyard.
“Everything’s set,” Ye Qing said. “Let’s see what we need and buy it later. Also, we must fetch our carriage from the inn. We might need it to return to the capital.”
“Okay,” Jiang Jinhuang said. “Let’s go pack our things.”
They spent the morning moving their belongings from the inn to the courtyard by carriage.
Ye Qing unhitched the carriage. She tied the horses to a tree in the courtyard.
The three went to eat at a nearby place. Then, they bought daily items.
They purchased kitchen seasonings, new bedding, a large tub, and a basin. The three adults worked all afternoon, organizing the courtyard neatly. It looked like a place for long-term living.
Jiang Jinhuang even thought, if not for her parents and sister in the capital, staying here seemed nice.
The three were exhausted from organizing. That evening, Ye Qing and Song Zhao bought food from a nearby restaurant to celebrate having a place to stay.
When Ye Qing and Song Zhao returned, it was dark. Ye Qing knocked on the door. “Jinhuang, we’re back,” she called. “Open the door.”
“Okay!” the little one replied. She was playing in the courtyard. Hearing the noise, she ran to find Jiang Jinhuang. Jiang Jinhuang was wiping a wardrobe in the room.
“Sister, Sister Ye is back!” the little white ball called in her sweet voice, running in.
Jiang Jinhuang took the little one to open the door. The little one was hungry. Seeing what Ye Qing and Song Zhao carried, her eyes widened.
“Sister Ye, what yummy food did you buy?” she asked excitedly.
“Your favorite meat, plus various dishes and pastries,” Ye Qing said, smiling. “You’ll love them.”
“Hehe,” the little one giggled happily. She followed the adults into the front hall.
The hall had two oil lamps, newly bought today, making it bright.
Ye Qing and Song Zhao arranged the food on clean plates. Soon, the table was full.
“Why did you buy so much?” Jiang Jinhuang asked, shocked. “Can we finish it?”
“We can finally eat this stuff,” Ye Qing said, smiling. “We should eat more. Look, we got rice wine too. Let’s drink to celebrate our new place.”
“Yay! Yay!” the little one exclaimed excitedly.
The stool was too low. The little one sat in her sister’s lap to reach the table.
Ye Qing thought about making a child’s chair tomorrow. They’d stay here for two or three months. Holding the little one during meals wasn’t comfortable.
Ye Qing and Song Zhao sat down. Besides plates and chopsticks, the three adults had cups. Ye Qing stood and poured rice wine for them.
“I don’t drink,” Jiang Jinhuang said, looking up.
“It’s fine,” Ye Qing said, smiling. “It’s low-alcohol. You won’t get drunk.”
Jiang Jinhuang nodded. She hadn’t drunk before. Ye Qing’s personal scent was sweet grape wine, which she’d tried often. Thinking of this, her ears reddened slightly.
Jiang Jinhuang quickly picked up her bowl. She fed the little one.
The table had roast duck, smoked chicken, and fried fish—all the little one’s favorites.
The little one ate with her cheeks stuffed.
Ye Qing and Song Zhao ate too. The table had many dishes. With their big appetites, they wouldn’t waste much.
After feeding the little one, Jiang Jinhuang started eating.
Ye Qing raised her cup. “Come, let’s toast to our new home,” she said cheerfully.
“Okay,” Jiang Jinhuang said. She raised her cup and sipped. As Ye Qing said, the rice wine was mild, with a sweet rice flavor.
Still, Jiang Jinhuang felt it wasn’t as tasty as Ye Qing’s sweet wine.
Thinking this, her ears flushed red. What was wrong with her today, thinking of such random things?
To hide her embarrassment, Jiang Jinhuang drank her entire cup of rice wine. Then, she resumed eating.
The rice wine was sweet. Ye Qing and Song Zhao drank plenty. Even Jiang Jinhuang had several cups.
When they nearly finished, Jiang Jinhuang felt dizzy. She propped her head with her right elbow. Her eyes squinted slightly.
Ye Qing saw her rubbing her temples. “Jinhuang, what’s wrong?” she asked concernedly.
“Dizzy,” Jiang Jinhuang said, looking at Ye Qing. She saw double images of Ye Qing. She shook her head but still couldn’t see clearly.
“No way, drunk already?” Ye Qing asked, shocked.
She glanced at Song Zhao. Song Zhao sat fine, unaffected.
“Her tolerance seems low,” Song Zhao said. “Master, take her to rest. Yangyang can sleep with me tonight.”
Ye Qing nodded. She stood to help Jiang Jinhuang. Jiang Jinhuang grabbed her wrist.
Jiang Jinhuang’s watery eyes stared at Ye Qing. After a moment, she rubbed her forehead against Ye Qing’s arm. Like a drunk, she clung to Ye Qing’s arm tightly.
