- Chapter 2 - Master Servant Blood Pact
Lin Yanyu was tidying the sleeping couch when she suddenly felt a chill on her back. The professional habit she had developed over the years made her immediately dodge to the side.
She saw a blade plunge with a plop into the bed sheet. The edge reflected an eerie cold light, clearly a poisoned weapon.
Lin Yanyu: “…”
She had to admit, the little girl had done a great job as an exorcist, but had she misunderstood something?
After complimenting Tan Changxin in her mind, Lin Yanyu wrapped the poisoned blade with demon energy and stowed it away. She raised her hand to lift the hanging curtain.
Tan Changxin was still standing there, staring back at her expressionlessly, pretending that nothing had happened.
Lin Yanyu inexplicably felt like laughing.
From just now until now, only their presences had been in the sleeping chamber. Who did the little girl think she was hiding this from?
She didn’t even know how to pretend to be innocent.
She walked straight up to Tan Changxin, waved the confiscated poisoned blade in front of her, then firmly grasped Tan Changxin’s wrist, pressing her thumb against the pulsating artery.
“What are you so nervous about?” Noticing her pulse was beating extremely fast, Lin Yanyu asked with a smile, “Didn’t your Master teach you to run away immediately after a failed assassination attempt?”
A flicker of panic crossed Tan Changxin’s eyes, but she quickly took over the conversation: “My Master once said that an exorcist can be killed but not humiliated! It was you who insulted me first!”
Lin Yanyu was bewildered. She innocently lifted the hanging curtain and asked, “This young lord/mistress was preparing the place for the bl00d pact for you. How did that become an insult?”
“A quiet environment is needed to form a bl00d pact, which is why I asked you to provide a quiet room,” Tan Changxin suppressed her anger and explained coldly. “There’s no reason to form a bl00d pact on… on a sleeping couch! You clearly meant to… wanted me to wait on you in bed!”
As she spoke, Tan Changxin’s face flushed.
Lin Yanyu was dumbfounded, almost retorting, “What nonsense did your Master teach you?” But then she remembered that ancient people regarded their Master as their father, so she swallowed the words. She simply pulled Tan Changxin through the curtain.
“Why don’t you first see what this has on the bed?” She directly pulled the girl to the side that hadn’t been tidied yet and spread out the newly folded drawing albums in front of Tan Changxin. “Look closely.”
The cover of the first album showed two female demons wearing clothes. Tan Changxin looked at it twice without figuring it out. When she picked it up in confusion, her eyes swept across the large expanse of white on the cover of the second album. She suddenly understood, let out a gasp, and smacked it down with the album in her hand as if hitting a cockroach.
Lin Yanyu let out a soft hmph, took the cracked album, refolded it, and placed it on the bedside table. She said leisurely, “If this really wanted to do something to you, why would I be so polite?”
“You!” Tan Changxin’s eyes widened. She clenched her fists, unable to utter a word for a long time. Remembering the album cover she had inadvertently seen, she felt her ears growing hot. Gritting her white teeth, she finally managed to whisper after a long pause, “Lecher…”
Lin Yanyu’s keen ears caught it, and her lips curled up. Her mood inexplicably brightened.
Fortunately, she had transmigrated to this time. Such an earnest and pure little girl should be protected, not bullied.
Afraid that Tan Changxin might overthink again, Lin Yanyu didn’t keep her waiting too long. She quickly cleared a space on the sleeping couch, sat down cross legged, and turned to her, saying, “Alright, come form the bl00d pact.”
Tan Changxin cautiously climbed onto the sleeping couch and sat opposite her. She used her spiritual energy to cut her finger, forced out a drop of bl00d, and, while chanting a spell, dotted the bl00d drop onto Lin Yanyu’s brow.
Lin Yanyu felt a pain in her brow, like an ant gnawing at her. Immediately after, a cool sensation drilled into her head, slowly moving downward, then splitting into two strands at the heart. One strand remained near the heart, and the other descended into her dantian (core energy center), quietly circling the demon core.
Seeing that the cat demon offered no resistance throughout, Tan Changxin was deeply surprised.
Her Master and the other elders had repeatedly taught her that for the demon race, being taken by an exorcist as a “bodyguard” was a great humiliation.
But why was this cat demon, the Young Master/Mistress of the Demon Realm, so unconcerned? Could it be… she truly believed that serving as a demon attendant to a human was merely an interesting novelty?
“The bl00d pact is established. From now on, you are my ‘Demon Attendant’,” Tan Changxin withdrew her hand, her breathing a little unsteady as she spoke.
Forming a master servant bl00d pact consumed most of her spiritual energy. She needed at least three shichen (six hours) to recover.
Lin Yanyu nodded, took her arm, and gently laid her down on the sleeping couch.
“You look unwell. Rest first.”
This time, Tan Changxin didn’t resist. She closed her eyes and let Lin Yanyu cover her with a blanket, perhaps because forming the master-servant bl00d pact put her at ease, or perhaps because the spiritual energy drain made her too tired.
Lin Yanyu tentatively leaned closer to Tan Changxin. Seeing no reaction, she couldn’t resist lightly pinching her chin and asking with interest, “Why aren’t you guarding against this anymore?”
Tan Changxin brushed her hand away and said faintly, “Since you voluntarily formed the pact with me, you should be clearer than I am about the consequences of harming your master.”
Lin Yanyu chuckled lightly. She was indeed very clear.
The so-called “Demon Attendant” was a servant who assisted the exorcist in slaying evil demons, somewhat like a police dog assisting the police.
During the contract period, the Demon Attendant’s demon energy would be controlled by the master. If she dared to harm Tan Changxin, Tan Changxin could kill her with just a thought.
Even so, Tan Changxin shouldn’t drop her guard against her.
Seeing that the little girl seemed unaware of this point, Lin Yanyu couldn’t help but remind her: “Of course! However, harmless demons like this are rare. You should still be vigilant if you encounter other demons.”
Harmless?
Tan Changxin frowned, turned over to face away from her, and stopped talking.
Four night-glowing pearls illuminated the area around the sleeping couch. Lin Yanyu got off the couch, preparing to extinguish them, when she suddenly heard a soft sobbing coming from beside her.
“Changxin knows she was wrong… Don’t hit me… woo…”
Lin Yanyu moved over in surprise. Cat demons have night vision. In the darkness, she saw Tan Changxin tightly shut her eyes, her eyebrows deeply furrowed, her face covered in tears, seemingly having a terrifying nightmare.
She instinctively reached out, first wiping away Tan Changxin’s tears, then gently patting her back, silently reciting a calming mantra.
In her previous life, she was the captain of an exorcist squad, and there were always rookies who would secretly cry in their sleeping bags on the first night of a mission. She was long accustomed to comforting people.
However, this trick was ineffective on Tan Changxin. When patted on the back, Tan Changxin even began to tremble, continuously repeating “Sister, don’t hit me” and “I know I was wrong.”
Lin Yanyu frowned, then recalled that the little girl had a malicious stepsister who loved to trick her to an unseen place and whip her with a martial arts soft whip she carried, threatening her not to tell anyone afterward.
The little girl left home alone at the age of seven to study at Kui Xuan Academy, also to escape this scumbag. Unexpectedly, even after ten years, the bullying she suffered in childhood still plagued her dreams.
Lin Yanyu sighed, transformed into a small black cat, and burrowed into Tan Changxin’s arms, rubbing her furry body against her hand and chin.
Tan Changxin was rubbed into stillness, stopping her sleep talking. Her cold hand kneaded the cat fur a few times, and she quickly hugged the whole cat tightly, as if clutching a lifeline.
“Kitty…” she mumbled, her crying tone now laced with a hint of a smile.
