- Chapter 11 - The Encounter
After a full round of makeup and styling, Zhu Changxuan now wore a flowing red gown. Her long hair cascaded down her back, partially tied with a slim red silk ribbon.
Si Chou looked her over with satisfaction and nodded.
“Truly a stunning beauty. A delight to the eyes.”
Even Song Yidao, who already knew how attractive Zhu Changxuan was, found herself envious. A simple makeover had elevated her appearance to a whole new level.
Her features were soft and delicate, yet carried a subtle strength. With a face like that, it was no surprise if both Alphas and Omegas were drawn to her.
Si Chou said, “I’ve already contacted Fan Nimei. She’ll be waiting for you this evening at the far end of Qinghu Bridge near the lantern fair. Song Yidao and I will be nearby, watching from the shadows. There’s nothing to worry about. For now, take this pill.”
Zhu Changxuan’s expression soured. She agreed reluctantly, her face filled with resignation.
Han Xuejin had already arrived in Tianman City. She had placed Sui Sheng into a special storage space that could hold living creatures and began searching on her own.
By evening, the banks of Qinghu Lake were bustling with people preparing for the lantern festival.
When Zhu Changxuan and the others arrived near Qinghu, they spotted Fan Nimei sitting at a pavilion near the bridge.
Si Chou nudged her forward.
Zhu Changxuan walked toward the pavilion with dread, nervous that something might go wrong.
Fan Nimei sensed someone approaching. She turned and instantly froze at the sight of the woman before her—so beautiful it left her breathless.
Zhu Changxuan straightened her posture and offered a polite, practiced smile.
“Are you Fan Nimei?”
Fan Nimei stared at her, stunned by the sweet and gentle voice.
“Yes… I am,” she replied dazedly.
Snapping out of it, she asked quickly,
“Are you Zhu Ruhua?”
Zhu Changxuan twitched at the fake name but quickly recovered her professional expression.
“Yes, I am.”
Fan Nimei looked at her in awe, dreamy-eyed.
“As your name suggests, you are as beautiful as a flower. No, even the most exquisite bloom would pale in comparison.”
Zhu Changxuan responded stiffly,
“Um… thank you.”
Realizing she was coming on too strong, Fan Nimei blushed and scratched her head in embarrassment. It was the first time she had met someone who so perfectly matched her ideal. She suddenly found herself lost for words.
Although she was tall and strong with plain but decent features, she now looked like a young girl with a crush—nervous and fidgety.
Seeing her flustered state, Zhu Changxuan suggested they walk around. Many vendors had already set up stalls near the lake.
Fan Nimei eagerly bought Zhu Changxuan various snacks.
Zhu Changxuan happily accepted them, asking Fan Nimei to buy her everything that looked delicious or colorful.
When she spotted a brightly colored rice cake, she tugged gently on Fan Nimei’s sleeve like a spoiled child.
“Wow, Sister Fan, look at that rice cake. The colors are so pretty. I really want to try it.”
Fan Nimei was a little surprised that an Omega could eat so much, but she quickly brushed it aside under the power of Zhu Changxuan’s charm.
With a goofy grin, she said,
“Of course. Whatever you want, just tell me. Sister Fan will buy it for you.”
They strolled slowly along the lake, eating and chatting, until they stepped onto the long bridge over Qinghu.
Fan Nimei followed behind, watching Zhu Changxuan’s hair and red ribbon flutter in the breeze. Even her back was captivating.
She called out softly,
“Ruhua.”
Zhu Changxuan turned while still chewing on the rice cake, her words a bit muffled.
“What is it, Sister Fan?”
Fan Nimei could not hold back any longer. She blurted out what had been in her heart the entire time.
“I fell in love with you at first sight. Will you marry me? I can find a way to help you cultivate, and we can always be together.”
Zhu Changxuan was completely thrown off.
“Ah… this… isn’t that a bit fast?”
Fan Nimei placed a hand over her chest with great sincerity.
“Ruhua, I mean it. Or… do you not like me?”
Zhu Changxuan thought about what Si Chou had told her, that she needed to play along. Struggling, she replied,
“It’s not that I don’t like you. We just met, and I…”
Before she could finish, Fan Nimei stepped forward in excitement and grabbed Zhu Changxuan by the shoulders.
“Then we’re of one heart. Since we both feel the same, let’s get engaged now. We can take our time getting to know each other later.”
Zhu Changxuan’s heart jumped in panic. She nearly passed out from how quickly this was escalating.
“Ah… could you calm down a little?”
Not far away, Si Chou and Song Yidao were watching from the shadows.
Song Yidao squinted.
“It looks like they’re talking about something important.”
Si Chou replied,
“Let’s wait and see.”
Just then, Zhu Changxuan heard a voice she had longed to hear again.
“Let go of her.”
Both she and Fan Nimei turned toward the sound and saw Han Xuejin descending on her sword.
She wore a robe as white as snow. The birthmark on her face was gone. Her appearance was stunning—cold and graceful, yet with a hint of joy softening her features.
Earlier, when Han Xuejin entered the city, she had noticed the lantern fair by the lake. The glowing lights were bright and beautiful, floating across the water.
Her mind had wandered. She imagined how wonderful it would be to watch the lanterns with Zhu Changxuan by her side.
Then, in a single glance, she froze.
She saw the face she had missed every moment since their separation. The one who usually wore white now stood in red, more vivid and radiant than ever. Time seemed to stand still.
And in that moment, her heart began to beat again in a way it never had before.
But standing too close to her beloved was an oblivious, overexcited fool, touching her carelessly.
Han Xuejin rushed forward without hesitation, her sword cutting through the air like lightning.
When Zhu Changxuan heard that familiar voice, she turned around with joy in her eyes.
“Xuejin!”
Fan Nimei noticed the familiarity between them and immediately sensed danger. She glanced cautiously at the Omega who had suddenly appeared. To her surprise, she could not sense the woman’s strength at all, which only deepened her unease.
Han Xuejin frowned when she caught the scent of Omega pheromones coming from Zhu Changxuan, but she stepped forward anyway and took her hand.
“Come with me. Let’s leave this place.”
Fan Nimei was clearly upset.
“No! You can’t just take her away!”
She tried to grab Zhu Changxuan back but was immediately forced back several steps by the powerful pressure Han Xuejin released.
She quickly gathered her energy to resist, but still stared at Han Xuejin in shock. That terrifying aura had pushed her back, even though she was nearly at the Nascent Soul stage herself.
There were too many mortals nearby. Han Xuejin did not want to cause a scene, so she took Zhu Changxuan and flew away on her sword in a flash.
Fan Nimei’s legs grew weak. She stood frozen, unable to chase after them.
Frustrated and defeated, she shouted after the vanishing pair,
“Two Omegas will never have a happy ending!”
Si Chou and Song Yidao had also seen the moment Zhu Changxuan was taken away.
Si Chou narrowed her eyes, staring at the departing figure. That face and silhouette looked familiar, and she began to piece things together.
Song Yidao tried to move forward to help but was blocked by Si Chou.
“What are you doing?” Song Yidao snapped. “You’re not even going to save your little lover, and now you’re stopping me too? You’re just going to let someone take her away?”
Si Chou’s face darkened when she heard the words little lover.
“She’s not my little lover,” she muttered. “But if you became mine, I wouldn’t complain.”
Song Yidao blushed furiously.
“You… You shameless scoundrel!”
Angrily, she turned and stomped back to the inn.
Han Xuejin took Zhu Changxuan to a quiet, secluded inn and booked a room for the two of them.
The innkeeper stared at the pair of beautiful women—two divine-looking Omegas. The one in red was especially striking. Even as an older Omega herself, the innkeeper felt her face flush just from looking at her.
They were probably sisters traveling together to save money, she thought, since they had only booked one room.
But then the one in white took out spirit stones worth enough to rent ten upper-tier rooms, and the innkeeper grew puzzled. Maybe they were just incredibly close sisters.
Once inside the room, Han Xuejin closed the door behind them and turned to Zhu Changxuan with a serious look.
“Your pheromones… why do you smell like an Omega now?”
Zhu Changxuan was truly happy to see her again. Feeling mischievous, she decided to tease her.
With an equally serious expression, she replied,
“I was always an Omega. I just didn’t tell you.”
Han Xuejin’s usually composed face cracked. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
Zhu Changxuan was secretly pleased to see such a rare reaction from her. Satisfied, she was about to explain further.
“I…”
But before she could finish, Han Xuejin suddenly reached out and grabbed at a certain unmentionable area to confirm her suspicion.
The unexpected pressure in that very specific place made Zhu Changxuan freeze in place, completely stunned.
Their eyes met. Zhu Changxuan jerked back in shock, hitting the edge of the tall wooden table behind her. She winced but quickly forced a laugh and said awkwardly,
“I… I was joking.”
Han Xuejin finally realized what she had just done. Her face turned red. She turned away, flustered, and mumbled,
“We’re engaged. It was just a touch. What are you so nervous about?”
As if she was trying to convince herself as well.
Zhu Changxuan’s face turned red too. She had transmigrated here, after all, and now had an unexpected “attachment” she was still adjusting to. And hearing Han Xuejin say that—
Wait… was it possible that the original Zhu Changxuan had already done something with Han Xuejin before? That might explain why she only booked one room.
Was that what this was?
But the book never mentioned anything like this. No… things had already started to deviate. The story might no longer follow the written plot.
For some reason, when Zhu Changxuan thought about the possibility that Han Xuejin and the original her had shared something so intimate, her heart suddenly felt a little sour.
