- Chapter 12 - She's My Mother, You Know
Just as Fan Nimei stood rooted in frustration, Si Chou turned and appeared silently behind her.
“Time to come back with me, Fan Nimei,” Si Chou said.
Fan Nimei clenched her fists, her voice calm but heavy.
“I will… but before I return, there’s one thing I must do.”
“Oh?” Si Chou raised a brow.
Fan Nimei turned to face her and said,
“Lend me the Demonic Jade. I’m sure the Demon Lord gave it to you, otherwise you wouldn’t have come alone.”
Si Chou chuckled.
“You’re right. I have it.”
The Demonic Jade was a rare sacred artifact in the Demon Realm. It could significantly boost a demonic cultivator’s power for a limited time. The drawback was severe depletion of energy afterward, often requiring secluded recovery.
“What exactly do you plan to do with it?” Si Chou asked.
Fan Nimei’s face was full of unwillingness.
“I want to bring Zhu Ruhua back to the Demon Realm. I may not be able to defeat that Omega in a fair fight, but if I use my illusion arts with the power of the Jade, the outcome might be different.”
Si Chou looked puzzled.
“Wait. Does this ‘Zhu Ruhua’ even like you?”
Fan Nimei’s expression turned wild.
“Hahaha, I don’t care. I have a Heartbind Pill. Whoever gets hit by it will fall in love with the first person they see.”
Si Chou raised her eyebrows in surprise.
“Oh… Isn’t that the inner core of the now-extinct Affinity Beast? Where did you get it?”
Fan Nimei grinned proudly.
“Three hundred years ago, I spent great effort to hunt down the last Affinity Beast and took its core. I’ve kept it until now.”
She pressed a hand over her heart.
“Finally, I’ve found someone worth using it on.”
Si Chou silently judged her for being so lovesick but gave a thoughtful nod.
“Alright then. I’ll go with you to find Zhu Ru— I mean, Ruhua. I’ll help you out.”
Fan Nimei agreed immediately, not thinking much of it.
Meanwhile, back at the secluded inn where Zhu Changxuan and Han Xuejin were staying, the air inside their room had grown increasingly ambiguous. Just then, a knock came at the door.
“Knock knock… Dear guests, your bathwater is ready.”
Han Xuejin went to open the door.
“Bring it in.”
“Right away.”
The inn attendant brought in the hot water and filled the tub behind the folding screen, then left quietly.
Han Xuejin glanced at Zhu Changxuan, who looked visibly nervous, her eyes darting around. Han Xuejin found it amusing. She was supposed to be the Omega, so why was the Alpha acting so shy?
Seeing the bath was ready, Zhu Changxuan quickly spoke.
“You… you go ahead and bathe first, Xuejin!”
Han Xuejin nodded and walked behind the screen, calmly undressing.
Although she still felt a little embarrassed inside, she reminded herself that this was her fiancée—someone she cared for deeply. There was no need to be shy.
Zhu Changxuan saw her silhouette through the screen, graceful and soft, the water steaming faintly around her.
There’s no doubt about it, she thought. The original body and Han Xuejin definitely had something going on.
Feeling both disappointed and a bit insecure, she muttered,
“Xuejin, I… maybe I should just…” Leave the room.
Han Xuejin heard the uncertain tone in her voice and responded coolly,
“Changxuan, if you’re thinking about bathing together, we should wait until after the wedding. Sharing a room is already inappropriate, but I want to keep you safe, so it’s better to stay close for now.”
Zhu Changxuan panicked.
“No, no, I didn’t mean that. I… uh…”
Why am I stammering like this? What even was I trying to say?
But if Han Xuejin said that, did it mean nothing physical had ever happened between them before?
She secretly felt relieved. Her mood, previously stirred up by uncertainty, was suddenly calmed with just a few words from Han Xuejin.
Maybe… she really liked her.
But this body wasn’t hers to begin with. Was it really okay to feel this way?
Hearing the soft splash of water behind her, Zhu Changxuan turned away and covered her flushed face with her hands.
It’s just another woman, she told herself. Besides, her figure is on par with some of the prettiest girls from my old world. No big deal. So why am I blushing? Wait… does this mean I was into girls all along?
As Zhu Changxuan spiraled into overthinking, Han Xuejin finished bathing and emerged, already dressed in clean robes.
Zhu Changxuan then bathed as well, moving slowly and awkwardly.
Once they were both ready, Han Xuejin sat on the bed.
“It’s late. Let’s rest.”
Zhu Changxuan nodded, but quickly noticed there was only one bed.
“Then I’ll just…”
Han Xuejin tilted her head and patted the mattress.
“Come. We’ll sleep together.”
She smiled faintly.
“But don’t try anything.”
Zhu Changxuan’s heart skipped a beat at the tone of her voice—cool and beautiful, but with just a hint of teasing.
Flustered, she lay down stiffly beside Han Xuejin. The two of them slept in their clothes, side by side.
Despite the awkwardness, both slept soundly through the night. At dawn, they woke up early.
Han Xuejin planned to take Zhu Changxuan to the Demon Realm and finally released Sui Sheng from the storage space.
Zhu Changxuan agreed without much hesitation. She did not seem bothered by the idea of going to the Demon Realm at all.
That trust warmed Han Xuejin’s heart. But then she remembered that Zhu Changxuan had also been fairly open with Si Chou and Fan Nimei. That realization made her a little jealous.
Sui Sheng, upon seeing Zhu Changxuan alive and well, flapped excitedly and chirped non-stop.
Han Xuejin sighed and rubbed her forehead.
“Calm down.”
Sui Sheng immediately went quiet and began whispering to Zhu Changxuan.
Zhu Changxuan held her gently, stroking her feathers with care.
When she brushed over the feathers covering Sui Sheng’s ear, the bird let out a delighted moan.
“Ahh… right there… yes, more, more…”
Suddenly, a cool hand joined in, rubbing the same spot. Then came Han Xuejin’s voice.
“Here?”
Sui Sheng slowly turned her head to see Han Xuejin—smiling for once.
She froze, feathers puffing up slightly, and trembled as she replied,
“No… no, not there…”
Han Xuejin frowned slightly.
“Oh? She isn’t?”
Sui Sheng shook her head quickly, then just as suddenly nodded.
“No, I mean—yes, she is!”
Zhu Changxuan was speechless.
Han Xuejin did not seem as cold and distant as she acted.
After leaving Tianman City, Zhu Changxuan rubbed her lower back. The bruise from hitting the table last night still hurt a little.
Sui Sheng looked at her rubbing her waist, then turned to glance at the energetic and refreshed Han Xuejin. Her expression turned teasing and knowing.
Oh, it really seemed like something had happened last night.
Her master might appear icy on the outside, but clearly had a passionate side when no one was watching.
Without fear, Sui Sheng asked,
“You two slept together last night, didn’t you? Was it intense?”
Han Xuejin shot her a cold look.
“Do you want to go back into the storage space?”
Zhu Changxuan looked embarrassed and unsure how to respond.
Why did this bird always enjoy stepping on landmines?
Sui Sheng quickly closed her mouth and stopped talking.
At the same time, Si Chou and Fan Nimei had discovered their trail and began following from a distance.
Coincidentally, Zhu Shijing and Chen Tao also noticed the two demon cultivators acting strangely. They followed them too, unaware that Zhu Changxuan and Han Xuejin were further ahead.
While passing a small, clear stream, Han Xuejin slowed down and descended to take a short break.
Fan Nimei realized this was her chance. She activated the magic within the Demonic Jade, surged forward, and discreetly launched the Heartbind Pill toward Zhu Changxuan. She planned to use her illusion magic afterward so that Zhu Changxuan’s first sight would be her.
At the same time, Zhu Shijing and Chen Tao caught up and saw their daughter in the distance.
Unaware of any danger, Zhu Changxuan looked at Han Xuejin’s slender figure, clenched her fists, and stepped forward.
“I… I like you,” she said seriously.
Right then, Han Xuejin was fully focused on her and did not notice the Heartbind Pill flying through the air. It quietly entered her body. She immediately felt dizzy and shut her eyes in discomfort.
Fan Nimei panicked when she saw what happened. She had accidentally hit the wrong person. She wanted to scream in frustration, but two powerful auras suddenly appeared behind her. She quickly used the Demonic Jade to defend herself and realized Si Chou had disappeared. With no other option, she fled quickly.
Zhu Shijing took off after her immediately.
Chen Tao flew toward her daughter, shouting with concern.
“Xuan’er!”
Zhu Changxuan turned toward the voice and was stunned to see her mother from the memories of the body’s original owner.
Han Xuejin instinctively turned as well and opened her eyes. She saw a heroic-looking woman descending from the sky with a long ponytail and powerful presence.
Her cheeks flushed, and her lips curled up slightly.
Then Zhu Changxuan heard Han Xuejin whisper softly.
“I’m sorry… I already have someone I like.”
Zhu Changxuan stared at her in disbelief.
Beside her, Sui Sheng immediately sensed something was wrong.
Could it be…?
“Xuan’er!” Chen Tao landed beside them. She had planned to check on her daughter’s condition first.
But before she could say anything, Han Xuejin looked at her with gentle, affectionate eyes and said,
“Jiejie… you came. I missed you so much.”
Chen Tao looked confused.
“Wait… what?”
Wasn’t Han Xuejin supposed to have a birthmark? And why was she calling her “sister”? She had always addressed her formally before.
Zhu Changxuan glanced between the two, feeling lost.
“She’s my mother…”
Han Xuejin ignored her and spoke sweetly to Chen Tao.
“There’s a lantern festival in Tianman City tonight. Will you come with me? Just the two of us.”
Zhu Changxuan stared blankly.
“Wait, what just happened?”
